I decided to pull the V8 out today. Putting an M50 back in.
-
I purchased new ones from Milland in Dunedin, ~$315 each.. considerably cheaper than importing them from USA or Europe.
-
Good stuff Justin, looks like it's coming along well.
-
Hmmm, yeah probably a conversion, SMG to manual. Notice the instrument cluster has the different style LCD panel under the rev counter. Compared to this, which is probably a stock manual
-
Welcome. Plenty of 17" options, mine and others advise will be to go for E30 period BBS or other stock BMW wheels - you have to be careful with aftermarket wheels as most of them don't fit the cars design or style - not always a good look.
-
Ugh, possibly one of the most unappealing rear end designs... Puts me in mind of the generic 'lift back' look of the 80s / 90s
-
Hmmm pretty sure I saw Josh / Hybrid at a Caltex gas station in Penrose this afternoon, either that or a very similar mint looking E30.
-
I was just wonder how Brian was getting on last night... shocking news. RIP, my thoughts for his peers and family members.
-
Mmmm they do look rather Holden-esque. Ugh
-
Keep in mind you would have to overhaul suspension, upgrade diff size, brakes and driveshaft with a 316i base. a M50B25 or M52B28 would be an ideal upgrade, expensive enough to do as is. V8 Conversions, 10k+ minium if your to do it properly, better off to just by a 540i in most cases. Most used M60s would need an overhaul of a varying degree anyway, but the same can be said for all 15-20 year old donor engines.
-
Well thats desperate
-
Hi Ray, would you do this repair/upgrade on an E36?
-
That would be part of an old radar scanner/jammer
-
haha, yes this is a good point.
-
Good stuff Matt. Nice to see another looked after E36 Coupe on the road. Try some Autoglym interior Leather/Vinyl cleaner for the console etc, it will take away the gray-ish haze.
-
Just another boring 520i though... :/
-
Why those are some great quality photos. Pity its not 100% original.
-
Yeah, I would just keep it simple and use 330i E46 gear or M3 E36 brake gear. Keep in mind the only real gain with larger rotors / pistons is heat disapation, useful if your going to track the car more often. Then again larger disks look good regardless
-
Mmm very nice. I recall the largest space available in an E36 shell for a rear muffler is something like 250mm-300mm wide... that looks a fair bit wider. I had to have my tire well removed & replaced with flat ribbed steel to fit larger mufflers on both sides.
-
They aren't the ugliest car but, IMO the front the kidney grilles are way too big and poorly placed... I can't understand it..
-
Do you need any specific parts? I have a few things left over from wrecking an E34.
-
Couldn't agree more, I try like the lexus' models but I find I like the engineering aspect over their designs more often than not. This latest design is just awful for no reason, as thought the car is partly melted. Come on Lexus! Ughh Meanwhile BMW is on form again with the majority of its whole range!
-
Haha, I sense sarcasm, but that said, a caged, raced prepared 740i/750i with massive weight reduction + manual conversion would be pretty awesome, even if it did get overtaken by E30s in the corners.... I like the 728is as they are cheap and seem to be in good condition for the most part, a good base for an engine upgrade perhaps? (unless the rear subframes/diff are the low rent versions compared to the 740/750 variants) Although its a lot of money depending on what one wants to get out of the car.

Trade Me Link Just spotted this, I've always had a soft spot for these. So much car for the money! Especially for the asking price / mileage... Has anyone checked this car out?
