One of the best all round cars you can get. Good buy!

An impulse buy on this black E39 facelift.

Very mint looking E39. However I can't help but imagine that if you're going to daily drive it, you're going to miss the performance from the E65s with their more appropriately sized engines... -
Interesting, I've never seen that version before. It would probably be nicer in the flesh but telling from the pictures I get the impression the wide flared guards work better on an E30 rather than an E36.
-
It's impressive how much better the E36s can look with a full M-tec body kit. In stock form they pass as one of the most dull 90s cars around, but transform to something worth a second look once M kitted. Good job.

Well it looks like you'll be able to play roof checkers this summer!

+1 I think the weakest part of the Audi design is the awkward shape of the rear 1/4 window, especially compared against the BMWs much cleaner shape.
-
Even better idea.

Yeah that is true, that is true. It is fairer to compare the S50 to the original M52 six.. After thinking about it, I agree with your opinion there, the S50 + E39 touring body would be the way to go, it's would be a unique setup that has to be built, where as a 540i touring can just be bought. I know I would be 'wowed' by an E39 Touring with an S50, where as if it had the V8 converted comments would just steer to the point you can buy a V8 as factory so why bother converting it.
-
No I was meaning the car chassis (e39 touring) being ~1650kg or whereabouts would probably be a bit heavy for the S50 that is home in a 1400kg M3. Of course it would go pretty well, I just dont see it as an ideal setup when you stack up the torque / weight figures.
-
You would be just best to buy a 540i in my opinion. Since you can get a stock V8 E39 I don't see any advantage in converting it to one. I would only do it if I could get my hands on a 540i sedan that's been wrecked using it as a donor car. I've seen an old 1UZ 540i E34, not a bad idea but when you factor in the early 1UZ stock is 30hp and 45nm down from a stock M60, and a fair way behind a stock 4.4 M62 Vanos it seems like a lot of effort for the wrong sort of gain. Perhaps a 3.2 M3 motor would be nice, but perhaps too heavy a car to see beneficial gains of that six cylinder.. idk?

Got it sorted, thanks for letting me know though! -
I saw this the other day, quite a laugh.

I think I have a new favorite BMW. That is perfection!
-
That is brilliant.

Unfortunately I can't help, but I must say it's pretty frustrating guys like yourself having such qualifications and having a hard time finding a job, a couple of my friends are in a similar situation so I know what it's like. All I can say is, best of luck - hopefully something comes your way in the new year!

Metal polish tends to work quite well on plastic headlights, fairly abrasive so clears off the yellow film. I used to do this on my Soarers headlights to get them clear again.
-
Looks sweet, very stealth like. Those are also the best BBS wheels IMO.
-
Yeah a little to exuberant, just a decent black or Silver would do the trick for such a part.

e30v8 needs compliance in christchurch, any reccomendations?

Sweet, good stuff. Back on the road before Christmas? -
Indeed, Joji Nagashima/Claus Luthe did a good job all those years ago.
-
I can't help but find it a bit generic... indeed rather HSV like.

Depends how much coin you want to spend... but I would do 1) Modified valvebody for your automatic transmission, aka 'shift kit' - this will turn it from a slush box into a much more responsive quick shifting automatic. The general idea of them is to have various internal fluid passages enlarged (drilled) for higher flow along with harder shift/accumulator springs etc for firmer application of the auto brake bands and clutch packs. 2) Like Brent suggested, change the diff ratio, by going shorter your going to loose top speed, have slightly higher rpms at crusing speeds but a great upgrade in my opinion, it will really help the car off the line big time. 3) As also mentioned above get the appropriate headers. 4) If you don't want a S/C or Turbo then perhaps look at tweaking the cams to some that will aid with lower RPM torque/power - you may loose top end but one size never quite fits all... 5) Strip the interior out, you could probably save in excess of 300kg by removing the luxuriousness of the machine and turn it into a big.... JOKE. I kid - obviously this is not a solution. 6) Get a 330i and do all of the above? (already a lighter car etc....)
