E28E30 335 Report post Posted October 14, 2021 First WoF in my ownership today; held breath for the whole thing, flew threw 😰. First time I had a look underneath properly and found source of occasional oil drip (loose oil filter / sump plug seal). No rust, breathing out!
adro 1083 Report post Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) I just got mine WOF’d today too. Even though they are in good condition you just never know what they are going to pull you up on. I can’t go to VTNZ because my VIN number is in the system as the chassis number and they fail Me on that….and I’m too busy/lazy to drive to Porirua and point it out to them. That sounds annoying about the VIN. What mileage is your beautiful silver beast at now?

E30 325i Rag-Top 2957 Report post Posted October 22, 2021 In spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to… getting the ‘vert ready for summer. A few little jobs to do for the warrant, plus a bit of a tidy up underneath and a refresh where needed. First up, exhaust off to fix the two spots where it’s blowing..

They did the most accurate 4 wheel alignment before and after that I’ve seen. Bernard and the boys do a great job. I think between BMW Car Club and bimmpersport we’ve cornered the silver e46 M3 in Welly. Mine on 18s another on 19s and a CSL 😀
E30 325i Rag-Top 2957 Report post Posted October 31, 2021 Got a new work whip, so I am now officially saving the planet one commute at a time! Lots more work on the ‘vert ordered lots of new nuts, bolts and brackets for the exhaust these are starting to arrive. Pulled out all the heat shields to give them a clean and get all the stones and dirt out from behind them. Good to be putting bits back on now. As per usual I have decided on far too many (while I’m in there) jobs and got bits everywhere, pulled the front struts apart to change the springs over to Kings and stripped, cleaned and re-packed both front hubs at same time. Hopfully get it all back together before summer has finished 😂😂
balancerider 758 Report post Posted October 31, 2021 @E30 325i Rag-Top please tell me they've given you an iX to use 😂
E30 325i Rag-Top 2957 Report post Posted October 31, 2021 I wish! It’s a 330e PHEV for now, although I am hoping to get a drive of an iX next week as the first one’s are arriving. There’s already a pretty long list of customers waiting for their cars so it may be some time before they are available for fleet cars.

Kees 594 Report post Posted November 8, 2021 Yesterday I installed my freshly painted sunroof panel into my E34. When I got the car about a year ago the original sunroof panel was badly rusted so I promptly tried to find a replacement one in good rust free condition (which was actually a bit of a challenge). The previous owners had roof racks on the car which they would use to haul around kayaks and paddle boards. I suspect the salt water dripped down around the sunroof and would get absorbed by the seal and rusted it out. HellBM had a really tidy panel with no rust and good seals. Only catch was it was silver. I bought it and put it in the car, it kept the water out well which I was pleased about. I had always planned to get it painted but I just kept putting it off. The silver looked out of place but on tilt was passable since the wheels on the car are silver too and the car just looked a bit scruffy all round. But after I polished up the car it really started to annoy me so finally I got it painted. Was painted at Shields in Browns Bay on the shore. Was $216 including gst which I think is a very fair price, most other quotes I had were north of $300 excluding gst. I masked the seals off for them and gave them the silver panel and the badly rusted original panel to colour match it with. 36 hours later it was completed. Makes the car look a lot tidier in my opinion. I've included a photo of the car when it had the silver top to show the difference. Kees 594 Report post Posted November 10, 2021 Finally got round to sorting out the scrape on the bumper air-duct on my E34 540i. Gave it a quick sand with 150 grit paper, then 280 grit and then 400 grit. I then used some gloss black pasti-dip that I had lying around and it honestly came out way better than I expected. Here is a before and after. Before: During: After:
Kees 594 Report post Posted November 17, 2021 Since I got my car exactly a year ago, I thought I would give it a decent wash and then attempt to go take some half decent pictures of it with my DSLR. E30 325i Rag-Top 2957 Report post Posted November 19, 2021 Big week-end and week nights and the end is in sight with the convertible. List of jobs ticked off: Rear shocks and springs replaced with Koni / Kings from race car (old springs not captive on last WoF, after 14 years of being ok) Front tie rod ends done both sides Front struts stripped and re-freshed springs swapped for race series Kings Exhaust secondaries replaced with non-holey set and re-installed with new nuts bolts gaskets and brackets Muffler patched up and painted ready to go back on. New plugs, dizzy cap and rotor fitted. Lots of old oil & dirt cleaned off the bottom of the gearbox and engine to see where oil is leaking from. Left to do: Refit back-end of exhaust with new nuts bolts and brackets. In for WoF check Wheel alignment Then if all good will crack on with a few more cosmetic clean-up / touch up type jobs. Hoping to get some good summer cruising in this year!

For 90's hatch they aren't that slow up to legal speeds imo (even with the power robbing auto). Most are in average at best mechanical condition and not close to their potential performance wise. Looks the same as mine but without style 43's and jap plate holder.

Honestly, when i got it it could barely get out of its own way. I swear the more i drive it hard, the better its accelerating. It needs a damn good service, and im sure the previous owners have probably been running it on 91.
