The cancer that is Temu and Google.

Currently down a rabbit hole of blocking any search result that includes the Internet Cancer that is Temu.

Without breaking google totally to block their sponsored Temu results is quite the task.

Temu is there too. It's annoying when you want suggestions. But the only suggestions given are from one company peddling absolute sh*t.

I tried a simple search on duckduckgo (Jewellers Screwdrivers).... yes there's a Temu result, though only one, and it's an advert coming in third place.  I usually scroll past all of the adverts and seek the search engine's work output.  From my perspective that's a win.  If you're getting more, is it driven by your cookies, or have Temu built a profile on you?

It's the sponsored section that annoys me.
It is creeping its way in everywhere now.  Need to remove myself from the google world.  Which is not all that easy.  E.g. Android phone.

Brave doesn't save you anymore.  Google keeps finding a way around it.  Or they break it so you have to turn off some features to make it work.

I probably hate Temu a little too much.  Like as much as I hate Ford Rangers on rural roads.  A bit concerning.

Brave + Duckduckgo has 2 alternating ads as the first 2 results but that its. I dont why anyone uses google for a search engine, its been garbage for a long time.

pointless using brave if you still have google set as the default search engine, its the search engine at fault not the browser

you won't get a sponsored section with other search engines like that

people don't realise just how much monopoly google have on the world, just pure evil

95% of people think a google search is an unbiased truth and completely fact checked

its very sad how they have way more control than facebook /meta ever had, just more subtle but people think zuckerberg  is the  issue

ask any teacher,  student  google is god

It is possible to remove google from your life (even if you're an android user). But it's not easy. Probably not worth it for most. I don't have a gmail account and when I needed to get apps from the google play store there were ways around having an account (I usually could find open source apps that weren't on the store that did the job for me most the time).

I had unlocked my phone and installed lineage OS on it in order to have no gmail account and still have access to the google play store (while still being able to use critical apps like banking through work arounds).

I still have an smart phone for being able to do bank transfers etc on the go (need multi factor authentication for banking these days - no way around it). I actually just use a dumb phone now and store my smart phone away until I need it.

Pihole + ublock = had no idea what you were talking about, havent seen a sponsored advert in ages (and no ads for Temu)

Sorry I worded this poorly.  I'm not looking to use the basics like adblockers, browsers, and other search engines.  The example I gave was to show that Brave is in fact not blocking all ad's like suggested.
I'm wanting to block Temu from my existence without breaking crap like googles search engine, instagram, snapchat etc. (for the sake of others on my network e.g. wife)
I'm looking at pihole or NextDNS running on my ubiquity UDM (the rabbit hole).  pihole doesn't seem to do well with sponsored ads in apps as well as I hoped.

Free isn't actually free

people seem to think a search engine is a god given right purely I guess because we have always had them and have just taken them for granted but the reality is they cost alot of money to run and the same for browsers really

its really mindblowing when you stop to think of what you can do and have available for zero cost, from the free wifi to the maps and directions, free searches, etc all of which could in reality turned off or charged tomorrow.

There is a reason its free but you arn't going to like it so best to not consider it.

Went to get two front tyres put on my 540i today and asked for an alignment too.... $250 to fit the tyres and do an alignment.... is it just me or is that really expensive?

On the very high side for sure. Fitting and balancing shouldn't be anymore the $50 per tyre, usually about $20ish-$40 here. Dealers here charges about $150 or $170 to do proper alignment, general tyre shops are usually $60-$100. The E34 only has front toe adjustment so they dont have to do much regardless

I paid $320 for just an alignment at the dealership last year. Still better than the $90 alignment I got at Bridgestone where they barely tightened any of the trailing arm and camber arm bolts though... Can't win.

Winery tour around Cromwell with a friend, which included a rant from her over lunch about how much she despised driving diesels... We've only done 500km in my diesel 335d so far this week...

Tyre prices.
What happened to the good sales?  Most I am seeing is 25% off.
Even Hyperdrive the Briscoes of the Tyre world has crap deals now.
A brand that I was buying is now at least 25% more for a set.  That is a rough increase.

Been like that for awhile now hasn't it. I stopped using Hyper once they dropped Michellins. Just bought new PS5's via trade, $600 less compared to Advantage tyres which includes balancing, tyre disposal etc, but that's still at least a $400 saving so basically got a tire for free.

Hard to know know what sort of margins these places put on tyres. Even with trade prices there was $100-200 difference for the higher end stuff.

Would like to buy Michelins.  But the Merc eats them way too quick when towing.
So I just run Hankook's.
I like Hyper as I didn't have to deal with a human trying to convince me into buying Farroads for my E55 at the local tyre shop for a good price of $350 per tyre...

From what I’ve seen, the margin from wholesaler cost to retail is 3-400%.

Costco was the cheapest way to get pilot sports 4S/5 last time I priced up a set. I'm still running lingling tyres on the compact which try to kill me every time it rains. Very overdue for a set of michelins.
