Thats a terrible advert. That CGI is just stupid, its basically saying the car cant do this so we will make it appear that it can. I like adverts thats show real things happening, like the old 1989 Lexus LS400 advert with the car on the dyno driving up to 150mph with a stack of wine glasses on the bonnet. Truth sells! At least the 1 series M looks good however.

It would be too loud with no rear box as that is the main noise suppressor in the system. Plus.. if you get pulled up by a patrol officer you would probably get a green sticker ( I think ) which means you need to get your car certified with a new quiet exhaust. For the best sound, see Jason at Wolf Mufflers get a bolt on Remus twin tip muffler, I paid $650 for mine (RRP is $1100+) and its excellent, really nice deep smooth sound.

Does that include E36 Coupes, in M spec guise? The coupes are all I like from the E36 range, the 4 doors sedan and wagon I can't help but cringe when I see one, much like some of these latest BMWs. The last 5 years of Audis on the other hand, I absolutely adore, I don't think theres one model I dont like. (Side from the A2, which we dont get here) Word. Totally agree.

They must be that bored at the design centre....... Its sad new BMWs aren't really good looking in recent years, even Mercedes is coming up with superior designs, but of course Audi is on top of the game, all their cars look utterly fantastic.

Theres been quite a few 540is around that price range, really good buys including some Estates, which are rare. I think they have all sold in the last few weeks. If I didn't have my money tied up with my project I would have got one, but such is life. Guess it's just a waiting game! Good luck.

A bit difficult, unless the 4 cylinder has sporty cam work and a fancy set of headers etc, otherwise it's just going to sound like any other noisy 4 cylinder going down the road, disturbing peoples serenity. In saying that, best thing to do is get a quality muffler, not a generic thing from Trade Me, a Remus or something comparable, they will produce a reasonably deep quiet growl. However are $500-1000, but totally worth the spend, quality isn't cheap! (Woolf Mufflers stock some) Not too bad of a sound. I don't see anymore noise than that being needed, at least it will free up the restriction if theres any made by the stock rear box.

A 1UZFE is the way to go if you want to be cost effective, Although my project has cost the equivalent of a mint E36 M3... and climbing.

I say if you don't already have good contacts and experience, avoid it. Chances are you will probably be the one getting ripped off.
