2 pointsBuy the manual one and convert it to SMG I am sure there'd be an SMG owner out there that would want to do a swap

2 pointsSorry mate, probably a personal joke between Justin, Mike and I. But realistically I think that most Toyotas over the year 2000 are over rated sacks do turds. If I was in the market for those kind of cars I'd personally go Kia.

1 pointThe worlds biggest sporting event starts tomorrow so who is going to win it all and take the glory? Can Brazil live up to expectations and win on home soil? Will England make it out of the group stage? Or will protesters disrupt the whole thing? All I know is I can't wait and the games are on at pretty good times for us here in NZ

1 pointI recently took the plunge and bought a low mileage (25k miles) E36 convertible. I know plenty of members here don't like the verts but its great here in Marlborough and the kids love it (as do i of course). It's kind of a replacement for my old Mk2 Jag that had to go a few years ago but uses a bit less oil and hopefully has lower running costs ! Its in excellent condition having only had 3 private owners before me and been very well looked after. Posting a few pics from the dealer i sourced it from as the weather hasn't been too kind to get new ones lately.

1 pointNo they can. They control the parking spaces along there. Also if you park along where the Panel shops are on the footpath. You can argue it. They will drag it out adding late penalties. You will still end up paying.

1 pointI was 13 and thought BMW's were unreliable wankers cars because that's what the kiwi attitude is.

1 pointI waited for years to find the right car for me, I was only looking for a manual version which were much harder to find than the SMG, and of course the price had to be right Having patience is the key, the right one is out there.

1 pointYou're not wrong. Plenty of other things I'd want to do before putting a set of truck wheels on one!

1 pointThanks guys. Number 2 on the list is now sorted. Made up a combination of E30 320i Manual back half with a lengthened E46 318i front half for the drive-shaft. The E46 had the right sized flange on it to fit the output from the 265/5 box, had the centre hanger on the same side of the joint as the E30 and the splines matched between the two halves. Only problem was it came up short, but got the Driveline guys in Penrose to put a new section in to lengthen it. The fact that you can mix-and-match parts from different series models like that, and not just on driveshafts, is one of the things I do really like about working on the older BMWs. Good old German Engineers "zis is the size we haf alvays used, so that is the size we haf on ze new one!" I even managed to get my measurements SPOT ON! Fitted straight in, and the centre hanger was smack in the middle of the slot as planned. I measured, and re-measured a dozen times but I still wasn't confident due to being upside down under the car with a tape measure trying to hold it straight across quite a distance in three dimensions. So was very chuffed when that worked, as it would have cost a bit if I'd got it wrong. Starting to get excited now, getting so close to running. So, in typical Jon The Pom style I have now started buying bits for Stage 2, even though stage 1 isn't finished!

1 pointTHe majority of galants and legnum VR4s had AYC, and its was very troublesome due to people not servicing them. There were a few models that had open, mechanical diffs, but they arent common. The manual VR4 is OK. Heavy, thirsty and the AWD system isnt too great. i certainly wouldnt pick one over a turbo subaru. The auto VR4s have terrible autos that have a reputation for spontaneous failure. I owned a galant VR4 (same shape as legnum but sedan), in the best possible model (turbo, manual, recaro interior, non-ayc) and it was fast, but handled badly, drank oil, smoked and was a POS.

1 pointFully reassembled car, fixed leaking radiator hose (clamp wasnt tight enough and hose was slightly out of place) put about 30KM on it tonight and everything is working well, and drives well. Hard to tell if its any more powerful/faster, but its not slow, not at all. Finally, vanos rebuild, complete.
-
1 pointGearing, gearing, gearing!!! My Legnum VR4 would thrash my 540i up to about 100 kph, then run out of poke, the 540 goes all the way to 250. Roughly the same amount of power just put down very differently.
