3 pointsIts SMG. Let it go. Dude, you need only come for a drive with a guy I co-drive a rally car with, he can do a P&G, a Double Down, chips and two pieces of chicken in a manual Hilux whilst towing a rally car and not raise a sweat... I swear that's more impressive than actually driving the rally car.

2 pointsOh yes they will...the numbers available always dictate how collectable they will be. eg. 2004 M3 15 registered in NZ 2005 M3 13 registered in NZ 2006 M3 2 registered in NZ Add maybe a small handful of imported facelift M3's in period 2012 to 2014 when they became affordable, with only slim chances of any more being imported due to emission standards. A rough guess would be less than 40 post 2004 M3's nationwide. That points to them being very sought after in anyone's book...

2 pointsJust an observation. Maybe the rules have changed but I was under the impression that you are supposed to signal when entering or exiting the motorway? Have noticed the last year or so that half the drivers on the road do not see it as necessary. Its rude and you suck. Also, the drivers who don't indicate when turning in the outside lane of a double turning lane that has the option of going straight. This one really grates me, they are normally the same people who cut the inside lane at the same time... I have to go to the trouble of running wide and getting 1cm from your door, it takes a bit of precision driving and is a great challenge, and I do love seeing you temperately loosing your sh*t and getting all dazzled, but it would be much easier for you to simply indicate and let us all know what you are doing. Lastly. Do you really need a large Ute? I mean, you live in Auckland and work in an office, cant you just get a tow ball for the three times a year you actually need to haul something? Seems Utes are the new SUV. Pukka Tukka mother Fukka.

1 pointQuite a good techincal video on fastening. Some of you wont be into this sort of thing, but its a good must for anyone building up a car. enjoy

1 pointPrice (if negotiable) doesn't seem too outrageous to me for a four door M3 with sub 60K kms. Can't be many M3s with kms as low as that and even fewer with four doors. Looks a fantastic car! GLWS.

1 pointAs much as I'm a fan of the BBS RC's I'll admit defeat this time. Now you've got the M par's back on I can see what your talking about with the deep dish vrs concave. Those M pars are looking sweet.
-
1 pointThanks..Will definitely look at that more seriously. I see the 535d also has massive potential while remaining fuel efficient and fairly reasonable. Though I've had M cars before and not adverse to the respective bills that come with it.

1 pointHa ha ha. I'm glad your impulses were stronger than mine. When I saw this on TM I was very very tempted. Nice to see it go to a good home. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Any thoughts on paint? Or leave it as is?

1 pointYou'd have to say it's a better all round car, but there's something alluring about mashing the pedal on the V10 and peeling out from a stop...
-
1 pointI think the oldest one's didn't have strut braces. Mine is early 03 (pre FL) and has one. The 16:9 isn't always Nav though - mine is the trip computer, radio and music tagging only. A mint facelift 'stripper' with low KM and mint condition would be desirable. It's all about the CSL though really - I can't see any others being truely collectable.

1 point^ http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-812002817.htm must be this one. i know of the owner, friends friend. seems like quite a bit of work done to the car. should be in good condition should any1 be interested edit: didnt know but its already passed onto a new owner who is selling it. no idea who it is now haha
-
1 pointWhy do you disagree? I also should have stipulated it also needs to be a MY2003.5 or newer car.
-
1 pointHave a look at what Daveo said about his in the projects area of the forum. Have a dig for it. He ended up replacing it with an E63 AMG and never looked back.
-
1 pointTom took me around Puke in his CSL. Loved it. But my god is it different to a stock M3. Zero interest in the E46 M3 unless it was a CSL. I find them very lackluster. But I bet people said that about the E30 M3 and if it wasn't an Evo.

1 pointSeems abit steep for a 318i no rego or wof with 218Kms and faults. GLWS

1 pointI loath to even chime with an SMG defense post, but it's just so painful reading comments form people that obviously don't really know. If you don't have the bank to fix an SMG pump, then an M3 is probably not the car for you. That 'risk' aside, I would take (a 'CSL flashed') SMG all day, every day. (And I have only ever had 3 pedal cars before). CSL is the clear collector choice. The CS is cool, but will never have real collector value IMO.

1 pointNo.3 isn't even in the poster's original list so surely doesn't count (actually I am like you and I have a soft spot for the E36 M3s .... If I was to have one however, I'd have to have the AC Schnitzer CLS version ... or a clone of one) As for the SMG thing ... I've yet to have anyone come off a ride with me on the track that said "shame about the SMG" - in fact more say to me "I see why they made this car SMG". Ray can also chime in, as his converted SMG car to the CSL system has apparently been winning quite a lot of owners over and many are lining up to have the upgrade done - "night and day differences" just about describes it. Also I recall Mike Eady telling me after driving my car around the track that the system made such a difference to the way the car communicated to the driver over the standard 3 pedal (and this was right after he just did training with someone in a Seat Cup race car with paddle shift) - he promptly commented that the SMG was more racecar feel than the Seat Cup racecar system - and I am more inclined to agree with a multiple winning racecar driver on how a racecar feels over anyone else. My opinion probably doesn't matter much as it's obviously biased!! However, if imitation's the highest form of flattery and an indication of desirability, then it probably doesn't take a genius to decide purely on popularity at least which is considered by the enthusiasts to be the most cherished model. Having said that however, I do believe that the M3 GTS is often overlooked to be the ultimate BMW M3 - BMW M basically gave it what the CSL owners (back in 2003) were moaning about the CSL lacked ... proper seats, cage, harness, adjustable suspension and proper brakes and real downforce ... yet when they made one, everyone moaned again that it was "too aftermarket". It's no wonder that BMW M have finally gone and decided "screw you enthusiasts" .. we are just going to make what makes money from now on. We only have ourselves to blame for the crap M's that have been coming out in recent time.

1 pointI followed a similar kind of person driving a similar kind of vehicle through the burbs towards Milford one morning. For about 2 kilometers they achieved a maximum speed of 25kph, and slowed at every intesection joining the main road we were on and all but stopped at one of them for no reason. Then when we arrive at a traffic light controlled main intesection severe indecision reigned surpeme. Finally a lane was selected and we progressed through. Heading out of this busy intersection and into the busy main street of Milford she starts veering to the right, so I assumed (wrongly) that she was going to turn right into a side road. How silly of me! She then drives up the wrong side of the road until she gets to the pedestrian crossing outside (with safety islands in the middle of the road) the New World. I'm now along side her giving it loads on the horn. She is now on the crossing and decides that maybe she hasn't quite got it right so then turns right angles to the road and drives across the crossing! Now she's behind me at the red lights. So I jumped out, ran up to her door, wrenched it open (much to her surprise) and give her a serious ear bashing. To which she replies "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry". My parting shot was "You need to pull your car over and stop driving right now, because you're sh*t!" I should have grabbed the keys and thrown them away.

1 pointNope... Clear goes yellow and you can't polish it properly! Best to leave it bare metal and keep it clean and polish regularly!!
