8 pointsCar wouldn't be a problem. Those God awful family stickers on the back would be a deal breaker though.
-
5 pointsI once bought a bunch of those stupid white ppl stickers for my single mate's AMG. I stuck on an old lady and 14 cats on his rear window.
-
5 pointslol ... actual lol ... Nah mate the cars not going anywhere.. On a side note, when I met my wife and started dating, she was a little bit disappointed the fact I owned a BMW, she hated them. But then, slowly as the years went on .. she gets in another car brand (pick any) and hates it because they "dont drive like a BMW" Also, her idea of a fast car was a WRX STI or a RX-7 bat. I respectfully patted her on the head. When the e30 was finished took a few of her car hood heros on and munched them. So shes now educated and down with the m3 donk All her family think its quite funny (cool) her daily is a v8 now too. She drove my dads new 2015 volvo the other day, comments ... "lets stick to BMWs"....... My job here is done.

3 pointsSJ (EUROHO) fitted the cross pipe for me on Saturday. There was a bit of a hiccup so, unfortunately, it'll need to come off and be straightened (those with sharp eyes will notice the driver's side tips are a bit low) but it has done the business sound-wise and performance doesn't seem hampered in any way. iPhone vid doesn't do it justice but you can hear a touch of exotic now the banks are mixing!

2 pointsRep[laced all four wheels. Twice. Because I forgot the tyres have a rotational direction. D'oh!
-
2 pointsIt's misunderstood because many outside of the BMW fan-base believe it to be a "performance car" that didn't achieve great notoriety or success in the market.
-
2 pointsI think the extra track width helps the front end a lot. It's always had a really sharp front on it, even with the six it was more an oversteerer than a sledger. Plenty of power down oversteer in third now ha. Only sticking point with the V8 conversion is getting a box for it. Otherwise it's a bargain really.

1 pointOther Mods/Admin please edit as you see fit. Treat this like a wiki. Tip # 1 - Post pics of your ride If you are a new member posting on the forum for the first time, pictures of your car are compulsory! The only exception is if you are new to BMW's and haven't yet purchased. Half-assed fuzzy cell-phone camera pics are not good enough. We are an enthusiast forum and want to see what you drive - be proud of your ride! Tip # 2 - Follow the rules Bimmersport has been around a long time. It started as a really small group of friends who just wanted a place to meet other BMW enthusiasts, talk sh*t and maybe catch up for the odd beer. The forum was created by them in their own time and with their own money. As bimmersport has grown, advertising has allowed some of the expenses to be covered, but the owners of the site still invest their own resources, and them with the help of the rest of the Admin/Moderation team spend a lot of their own (unpaid) time trying to keep the forum running. As such, the Admin and Mods get really peeved if members don't follow the rules, pick fights, use bad grammar, and especially - abuse the mods/admin team. Do yourself a favour and read the rules and follow them. If someone else breaks the rules and it affects you, don't start a fight with them - contact a Moderator. Tip # 3 - When in Rome.... As said above, Bimmersport started as a really small group of friends who just wanted a place to meet other BMW enthusiasts, talk sh*t and maybe catch up for the odd beer. Many of the early members are still here and most are good friends in the real world (not just on the internet), and often get together socially. This means often there are "in jokes" and slang etc that you may not get or understand. It is just like meeting a new group of people who are all friends. You wouldn't try and stand out and make a d*ck of yourself in that sort of situation. You would watch everyone else and either become part of the group, or decide its not for you and quietly leave. The same is true for our online community to some extent. If you have an opinion that differs from the group, you're entitled to it, but if you are new, don't make an example of yourself by loudly voicing and defending controversial opinions. If you are a new member, you need to first establish your credentials with the group and earn their respect/friendship before loudly voicing controversial opinions. Liken it to a dinner party with a group of old friends, if you will. A new comer to the group voices strong opinions loudly all night. The group dismisses the newcomer as rude, and opinionated despite the fact the newcomers points may have been valid. Tip # 4 - Have a sense of humour If someone says something you don't like, at first try and take it light-heartedly. Chances are they are just pulling your leg a little bit. Some members like to bait new members a little bit. Try not to get offended. If it gets out of hand or becomes personal rest-assured the admin and moderators will step in and sort it out, but try to remember this is just the internet - its not worth getting worked up about. Tip # 5 - Have fun There are a lot of different people on bimmersport, and this diversity makes it a great place. We have people of all ages, cultures, economic demographics, knowledge and skill levels and tastes. Embrace the diversity, and have fun. We'd love to see you at the next meet so we can put a face to the name and ummm.. talk sh*t and drink the odd beer.... Tip # 6 - Technical Questions suggested by *Glenn* If asking a technical question, please give Model, Year & if possible, last 7 digits of your Vin/Chassis # to get the right help. Tip # 7 - Use the Search button, followed by Google, followed by asking your question here suggested by _Mark_ Chances are your question about how to lower your car, reset your service lights, or install XXX part has been answered before, and probably more than once. If you find the search function on the forum difficult to get a good result from use Google and type "site:bimmersport.co.nz" after your search query. Google will then only display results from this site. Tip # 8 - If you want to discuss illegal or unsafe mods, this site is not for you suggested by Simon* Whilst we encourage modified vehicles, and love that low look, if you want to discuss illegally low setups, dangerous mods such as illegal wheel spacers, cut springs, or similar, then you are not welcome. Most of our members also tend to frown on the whole "gangsta" look SLABs, chromes and big-bores. Some of our members have these, and that is their taste, but if you get a bit of grief about it, that's life. There are plenty of other sites that like that sort of thing. Tip # 9 - This is not bebo suggested by Simon* Keep chat off the forums. Use the PM function, or go to a chat room. No one wants to here your personal conversation. Yes, we know you know the other member, yes we know you think your personal jokes are funny, yes we know you've got nothing else better to do, and we don't want to hear it. We don't want to watch your half-assed attempts at flirting. We don't want to read five pages of smilies. Keep the discussion on topic and keep your personal conversations out of the forum. Tip # 10 - Don't be a postwhore suggested by Grant If you aren't making a useful contribution to the topic at hand, don't reply. Your post count is not some kind of status symbol. If your posts aren't useful, a high post count just means you are even more full of sh*t. If you post whore you run the risk of pissing of other members, moderators, or admin, and thus run the risk of receiving a warning about your behaviour, or having your post count reset to zero. Tip # 99 - Gus thinks he's awesome suggested by Gus As evidenced here: E: Spelling

1 pointAfter many months of patiently waiting for a 6-spd manual low km 135i to pop up for sale I finally got my hands on one a couple of weeks ago! I was looking for a car that was 6-spd, sunroof, less than 75k and NOT BLACK and came across this - my sedona red 135i. Ideally would've preferred a 2009 but can't be too picky! So far I have ordered some 18" VMR 710's rims with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres from the US as the run flats need replacing and may as well may it look good at the same time! Won't arrive for another 6-8wks though due to LA port congestion. Thought about ordering some performance parts too (intake, exhaust, downpipes, charge pipe, intercooler, cobb V3) to add on to the shipment but thought better and will just take my time before jumping into mods If anyone knows where I can get the idrive changed to NZ (maps and radio) that would help a lot!

1 pointI commute 400k's a week, so thought that I'd stop using the E39 for this, as its chewing up around 12L/100k due to heavy traffic etc and has some issues (such as oil leaks, running rough when cold etc to fix). I purchased This old Golf GTi from turners. Its a 1998 Mk4 Golf Gti with manual transmission, 196,000k on the clock. I got it for $2700, its had 1 NZ owner and seems to be fairly well looked after, as far as an old cheap car like this goes at least. One of the reasons the price was cheap , no WOF, but a carjam checked showed that it hadn't been taken through for a WOF and failed. I picked up the car up and dropped it at the local garage by work for a WOF check, it failed, but only on Strut mounts and 2 bulbs, later that day it had a new WOF and I drove it home. One issue I did notice, was a fluctuating idle, (rpm needle would bounce after slowing down and stopping at an intersection). A quick google and I discovered this was most likely a dirty throttle body. Sure enough.. Before: After: I took it for a good drive, idle issue resolved. Now to use it for work and see how much fuel I use etc. (will report back later). I will be doing a stage 1 remap on it soon (buying a remapped ecu from the UK) as its only $300 incl the ECU with the immo removed. Not a bad car to drive really, I like having a manual gearbox again. The recaro seats are decent too.

1 pointDoes anyone have any details/plans/sketches/blueprints or any measurements for some turbo m30 e30 engine mounts? Or have any idea on where to find some?.... Have looked through e30.de and bimmerforums and so on but there are no detailed examples ( not looking to steal anyone's work, just looking for ideas) I'm wanting to make my own but am struggling a little bit on ideas/shapes for the mounts. Cheers Ace

1 pointstill love the 560sec. built like a tank. A real AMG hammer would be a keeper.
-
1 pointHard to believe this was written off- did it require more than a new bumper and bonnet?
-
1 pointTook my 'BMW' for a test drive. Nothing too interesting discovered, although I did do some hard braking tests, exceptionally impressive I must say, the lack of noise dive and stability is quite remarkable.

1 pointSqueaky brakes on your car is not normal if quality parts are used. When the car goes through compliance they will often change the brakes with crap quality components and they also never ever change the progressive wear sensors. Give me a call in the morning... (09) 2722546 Glenn

-
1 pointThe 8 series is definitely misunderstood... Usually by people who haven't driven one or have only driven an old one with 100K+ kms on it. It's a fantastic car in both V8 and V12 form. The M73 with 5 speed tiptronic I think would be the perfect balance but sadly they only built around 1500 units all in LHD. Mine doesn't handle as well as my previous E39 but it's a work in progress - with a fair bit of work yet to do! - but I've been lucky enough to drive an absolute minter and it was amazing. A lot of people think the 8er wasn't a big success because of the power train but actually it was the price that was the problem. Priced around the quarter of mill mark in 1990 meant that they were right up there with exotics like Lambos and Ferraris but did not have the same high revving wow factor - although the I think the styling was right up there. It's not a slow car by any stretch of the imagination, however, especially with a tune and a shorter final drive ratio but nor is it an excitement machine. It was built, as Martin said, for mile-munching cross continents, not for short bursts of quick acceleration. That said, a standard 850i will push close to 300kph with the limiter removed. I've fitted a 3.64 LSD compared to the standard 3.15 open diff in euro spec 850s (or a dull 2.83 in US 4 speeds, I believe) which has made a big difference along with improved throttle response from an EML chip and around 30-35 extra horses from a couple of DME chips. It's definitely the fastest 4 speed auto I've ever driven. Yes, they would have benefitted from their own power train - the S70 (from the csi version) as standard would have been a good start and the ITB S70/1 version in the M8 prototype (pumping out 550 naturally aspirated bhp) would have been the perfect M car - only the latest M5 and M6 have achieved that kind of power with a couple of turbos! The S70/2 and /3 are the engine used in the McLaren F1, I believe). BMW spent so much on R&D on the 8er - it launched a host of new electronic wizardry - that the on road costs in the early 90s, just as the stock exchange crashed, were astronomical. The V8 versions were an attempt to mitigate the running costs for potential owners but in reality they're not much cheaper to run. I think the 8er marque stands for BMW's exploration into new tech. The 8er was packed full of it and the i8 is the next big tech leap for them. If you're wanting a track hack or to race WRXs at the lights it's not the car for you but if you want a very comfortable (as long as your sub 6'2" and your children have no legs), classic GT car that oozes style - and will get a lot of second looks! - then you can't go wrong with an 8!

1 pointTake it to someone who know Mercedes, and Mercedes autos, to service the gearbox. These things need the bands adjusted other wise they'll start flaring and if its bad enough you'll loose drive altogether (usually the band for 1st, 2nd and 3rd). Probably not a major at 60,000km, but something to keep in mind. I also prefer the factory amber lights over the clears I have a soft spot for large Mercedes. The 140 S Class was one of my dream cars as a kid, unfortunately cheap imports and pond scum butchering them on 20" rims during the 2000s killed any desire to own one (I have actually owned an S320, but it wasn't for long). However I've had a 560SEC, a 126 280SE, and a couple of 116 280se. Great engines those injected 2.8 dohc, and great cars the 116 and 126 S Classes, without doubt one of the best series/model/chassis of car ever built. If I see a decent 560sec on the market I will buy one.

1 pointI did know girls many years ago that would go out with the guy purely on what car they had. They were only good for a tap and gap though.

1 pointReally? Have never known a car to pull a women, there is always more to the story. Ie, women see the driver of a flash car as someone who is financially secure and can potentially provide for them... this is what pulls certain types. Women won't sleep with you based on what you drive. Key word women. Girls might. In terms of answering the OP. I would say no. I would not date a women based on what she drove, it may get my attention, I would ask her about the car, but would not date a boring women or princess based on her flash car.. Perhaps even avoid a car chick, well a chick that drives a car to look cool... They are normally Tom boys or just as insecure as the type of guys who drive flashy cars. I have dated women who co-drive rally cars though, they are normally cool, but that's more about the sport and the thrill of speed than the car itself. Interesting topic.
