3 pointsSo... The car is getting an upgrade this year! I was getting a little underwhelmed by the power this car made so the old M52 is being replaced with the E46 M3 S54. I picked it up maybe 7 months a go. I did a lot of the work last year but didn't have time to finish it before Targa Bambina so the M52 went back in three days before the event... then I threw it off the road and did some panel damage early on day one.... Yay for me... Anyhow, the car is on the mend and the S54 is now well on the way. Heres a photo as of last week:

2 pointsThey've clearly put two sets of springs on top of each other. This is why mechanical work should be left to the professionals.
-
2 pointsI think you paid way to much for this IMO, Considering it's not a non Msport and automatic. You can get well optioned SA built e30's in RHD e30's with motorsport kits for half the price.
-
2 pointsIt's actually grown on me heaps (I used to really want an e30, I still do to an extent, but them seem over used now and e30 tax ) and the more I think about it the more sensible it seems, with adequate economy, ergonomics and classic looks.

2 pointsI have an M62B44 and a Getrag 420g manual box for it. But you will need a lot more than $2k to pry both of them from my hands.

2 pointsAh its been a rough few weeks with this, was all prepped for paint and on the way to the painters, the towy's crain slipped and hit the rear sail and cracked it all through the joining points, so it is now getting a new rear sail made up, but from sheet metal this time. Luckily his insurance is covering some of the damages, unluckily since its all custom work, there been some negotiations happening around how much the insurance will actually cover. On more positive notes, ive ordered the custome VS XX Gold wheels and the engine is near completion of its rebuild, just wating for the new intake manifold to arrive from Aussie. Sub frame has been sent off for acid dipping and powder coating. Will start putting that back together with its new 375 slotted brakes soon hopefully. Will get some photos of everything over the next 2 weeks, including the twin 3" straight through exhaust and custome extractors ive been working on.

1 pointMy new weekender and project. A pretty good starting point... Far better than I hoped for on my modest budget but I got lucky with a vendor desperate to sell before moving overseas. First thing that has to go are those ugly ass 80s exhaust tips, then a few cosmetics (msport bumpers, missing wheel cap, kerbing, etc) and some maintenance... Will start a project log soon. EDIT: Forgot to mention... For some bizarre reason it also has a towbar fitting. F*ck knows why you'd put a tow bar on one of these but someone did... And it I don't plan to keep it.

1 pointHi all, haven't posted any pics of the E30 since I got it back, so here's a couple. As many of you know I sold this car three years ago and recently got the opportunity to buy it back. I'd always regretted selling it so it was a no-brainer really. Changes since I sold it: - Fitted with correct size 205/50/15 RE001's - Koni adjustables in front paired with the H&R springs I put in - Braided brake lines Specs for those who don't know the car '87 325i sedan (SA built) Manual conversion with Z3 short shift Rebuilt M20B25 AC Schnitzer body kit 15" BBS RS 001's Lowered on H&R sport springs Lots of things to be done as funds allow but in terms of driveability it's now sorted to the point where I can just enjoy it.

1 pointGraham, I have a set of Lorinsers (not sure what style) off my wife's old 124. They are in a rather sorry state, but they're just sitting in the back shed. From memory there are a couple of missing center roundels and sure at least one inner is cracked, they are a three piece rim. I'll see if I can find any info/photos without having to get off my ass. cheers Matt

1 pointI've done a quick search and can't seem to find this dealt with, but i could be searching shitty terms or just not delving far enough back... anywho. Few nights ago i felt a distinct thump as it shifted in to 5th, never repeated untill this morning it did the same thing as it shifted to 2nd. Wasn't thrashing it either of these times. Related maybe is that somtimes just as you get to your chosen cruising speed the revs go up and down a few times like I've seen in cars with a clutch about to die. On a related note, anyone recommend a workshop in chch to do a manual conversion? If this box is about to lunch it self it rather do some preventative maintenance/upgrades, i was getting ready to sell and buy a manual e39 or e34 540, but i don't want to sell if the box is on the way out, so may as well just turn this thing in to the car i want... better the devil you know eh?

1 pointWell, that ought to delay the problem for a couple of weeks at least!

1 pointGoodies arrived today. The grab handles are a different color to my trim which is grey so I'm going to grab one from the spare parts car and see how well I can get paint to adhere. Out with the old again. Plugs were different so with a bit of splicing in with the new. I was also disappointed to discover that while the plugs are the same shape for the front map light the male plug from the car is missing a pin and wire. so the 3 main lights will work but the 2 amber led's wont. The old one didn't have led's. Turns out I have a project for the weekend. After a bit of investigation I found out I can splice into the wire going to pin 4 on the sunroof night light and use that to power the amber led's.

1 pointYou're on the money price wise for the conversion, worth doing if you are keeping the car for a bit, pretty sure ths engine can stay in for the conversion, make sure whoever does it is up to speed with the coding or you will have issues. Good luck.

1 pointAt a guess it sounds like your torque convertor is about to lunch itself. Good luck with the manual conversion, I hope the depth of your pockets matches the height of your ambitions! Kayne Barrie in Auckland might have the gearbox you need, otherwise you gotta go trawling Fleabay. I see yours is listed as a 2001, M62B44TU? Probably wise to do the timing chain guides preventative maintenance at the same time as your conversion. Or weigh up the costs of both jobs at once, sell your car for parts and just get an M5. It'll probably be close to cost parity!

1 pointYou missed a few steps there Dan.. Pay MAF fee. Get told by MAF car is too dirty and needs to be steam cleaned. Pay fee to designated MAF steam cleaners for car to be "properly" cleaned. Get told by MAF car needs to have under body and wheel arch liners removed as they have water behind them (not from the steam cleaning surely...) Pay another fee to designated MAF cleaners to have parts on car ripped off removed and cleaned behind. Try and pay GST. Find out you have to be "registered" as an importer, set up Importer number. Try and pay GST Find out you are registered as a Business Importer not Private Importer as you were sent the wrong form. Get correct form, register as Private Importer. Try and pay GST and find out you already have a number!! Pay GST. Get car.. etc.. Find half of trims have been thrown into the back of the car still wet and have not been refitted as they are now broken, and find the other half are still attached to the car and haven't been removed or cleaned behind. Take to compliance, if you can get hold of some dealer plates, if not, get company to take to compliance. Pick up / get picked up from compliance Buy parts to fix the list of bits the compliance people have picked up. Get parts fitted / fit parts. Take back to compliance / get taken back. Register car.. Get to enjoy vehicle. And if you are really lucky you get to add in the extra steps.. Go to collect car on trailer.. Find driver's window smashed. Ask why.. get told "the keys got locked in the car" ... really? in an E30? And no-one asked if I have a spare key - which is here, in my hand..? Get blind f**kwit to guide you onto trailer so you scrape the door on the trailer. Buy replacement window. Chase shipping company to pay for window... It's a great game!

1 pointBut because i have been neglecting the DD for a few months, she got herself a new fart tunnel. straght 3.5" from the cats back with a nice X-Force muffler, sound and pulls way better now. The old standard muffler was literally joking the exhaust fumes from getting out. Will look at the intake and extractors soon.

1 pointHad some spare time over the weekend and decided to investigate a rattle and squeak coming from the RF wheel. Suspected Brake caliper and pad issues. Upon taking the wheel off there was a bit of play on the caliper and a pronounced rattle as the caliper was wiggled. First problem, who ever did the brake job last lubed the Guide pins. Big no no according to TIS. Cleaned. Caliper bracket cleaned and re-lubed with anti-squeal. Found some tar stuck on the piston, cleaned and lubed the piston to pad contact surface along with the other areas as per TIS. Brake pads look to be after market items. Cleaned up and lubed with anti squeal. I also measured the disc thickness in 5 different places. All areas within spec so I'll be throwing a set of OEM pads along with new guide pin bushes in the near future. Took the car for a spin afterwards, no more rattle or squeals. Job done!

1 pointDriving down lincoln road in christchurch yesterday, saw this, thinking meh, grey E32 how positively ordinary... wait, that pin striping... it can't be a... HOLY SHUCKING FICK... So yeah, Alpina B12, I had tingles up my spine for about 5 minutes. For anyone not aware of the B12 http://www.alpina-archive.com/?page_id=203 And yerp, not just a rebadge, the real deal https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=gyy483

1 pointFor some reason... reminds me of the Mini Ogle: At least the Ogle had an excuse though... The 70's! And it's funky in it's own way.

1 pointI would virtually halve what he is asking for a somewhat bastardised car, allowing to spend money on resurecting. It would need to be an absolute mint original car to pay near 15k for.
