3 pointsNooo, this hasn't been abandoned or forgotten :-) For the last 2-3 months its been as a fabricator / engineering shop having its under body rust fixed and chassis re structured. It has since been brought back to the warehouse where it is currently having the last bits of fabrication work done to complete the FULL conversion to Ute status - Eta is end of next month where it will also be send in for paint. Now, its just deciding what to do about the motor. Original plan was for a M62, but the motor is just too long gone. So will be either seeking a replacement M62, or fork out for a S62, or as some have previously suggested, go down the N44 route, so there will be some interesting decisions to be made... Ill get some pics up soon

2 pointsSo this week I am beginning my rather ambitious project of dumping a m52B28 engine and Getrag manual box into what was originally my 1997 BMW 318Ti running an M44 and 4 speed auto (Slushbox). I have owned the car for 7 years and this has been a project I have always wanted to undertake, I will be posting photos of the build process and trying to document most of the stuff that I end up doing. I have sourced a donor car, it is a 1993 325i sedan, however someone in its past has put in an alloy block m52b28 along with an m50 intake manifold, K&N cold air box, custom headers and exhaust. I am picking the car up this weekend so will only be able to confirm once I have it if it has undertaken an OBD1 conversion or if the older chassis was swapped out to OBD2. Once I have the donor car I will have everything required to do the swap except for a diff that is suitable, currently on the hunt for a Z3 diff to mate up to my Getrag 5 speed. If anyone has any suggestions on the best ratios to choose from let me know thanks If anyone else has experience in doing this swap let me know any potential problems that you guys faced, I will also be swapping the larger front rotors and calipers from the sedan over to the Ti, this is an easy swap in comparison to everything else. More to come and hopefully I can have her all done up in time to take it around Ruapuna on the 29th of June

1 pointBimmersport went down around 4am on Saturday because there was a powercut at Hampton Downs which is where it has been hosted for the last couple of years, the UPS kicked in but when it eventually died it seems a lot of things got a voltage spike. The routers became corrupt and I lost a lot of hard drives. I have spent the last day trying to recover what I can but I am pleased to say bimmersport is back from the dead, albeit running from my home internet for now. Please put up with it being a bit slow until I find a permanent place to host which will be this will be Monday/Tuesday.

1 pointHi, it is with some regret that my wife and I have decided to sell our coupe, we've owned 'Ted' for about 10 years, he taken us every where. We recently had new rear discs and pads fitted, cooling system was overhauled with a new genuine BMW radiator, water pump and thermo housing etc as preventitive maintenance within the last 10000km. There is some service history, I have been particular with oil and filter changes and these haven't been recorded. The leather is in good nick, good tyres all round, approx 180000km on the clock I believe that this is a bit of a rarity being NZ new and in manual, and I believe it has a LSD fitted. Body has the usual car parking dings and scratches but not bad for the age. We thought we'd offer him for sale here first as you guys are enthusiasts Sensible offers considered, car is in Taupo PH 07 3772538 evgs or 0274792536 pm

1 pointA diesel or a petrol X5? Jap or Euro import? Polley pls advise. On a serious note, spent the weekend working on trying to get it started. EWS seemed to be clicking open, and I was cranking fine, though just wouldn't start. After a bit of investigation, turns out all the wiring on the crank sensor had molded together, so while the engine was running before I pulled it out, it must have only just been hanging in there, so with all the movement, it must have rubbed together. Strange that the diagnostic tool didn't pull that up though. So after a trip up to Auckland at 2:30PM to Pick A Part to get another crank sensor, swapped it over and was greeted with this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AW644AbB4N1zGZc9VFCwTF5VFZMTz8W3uw Laid it all out and trimmed out the auto parts of the loom this evening. Cheers to Andy as his thread from 2010 on R3V, as that wiring diagram was pretty much bang on. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showpost.php?p=1988202&postcount=44

1 pointExcept for his blatant refusal to amend his guide for the S50B30 Euro. I made it very clear where his guide was misleading, and i see its still not been updated.

1 pointSure mate, it's not hard but I found it takes a lot of time and patience to get right - it took me just under 5hrs to do this seat, and it was mainly focused on the patches shown. The danger with alcantara is scrubbing too hard and removing the pile (making it worse) - so you need to be extra gentle agitating the seat. I found it most effective to work in small sections, about 6in x 6in square. I used a soft-bristled boar's hair brush, two clean 300gsm microfibres & a very small amount of all purpose interior cleaner (I stock all of these in my shop if you're after any). Spray APC onto brush bristles (a couple of sprays, don't want the alcantara to get too damp), work evenly into the alcantara for a minute with the brush, gently wipe off residue, repeat. It took me 15-20 goes on each section to get the result pictured. I'm not sure this is the best way (as It's painstakingly slow) but it was the most effective method for me as I couldn't afford to risk damaging the seat!

1 pointThe driver's seat was getting a bit shiny on the wear-areas (side bolster & centre seat). I spent a few hours detailing it the other day Before (the alcantara is matted in places & shiny in others, looking worn): 20160516_115454_HDR by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 20160516_115442_HDR by Christian Taylor, on Flickr 20160516_115448_HDR by Christian Taylor, on Flickr After (different camera, but no more shinyness or matting): IMG_5032 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr IMG_5049 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr IMG_5054 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr IMG_5040 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr And matching alcantara shoes, courtesy of my wife. 1 pointCentre caps just in, must admit I think they look awesome. Not too fond of the fake carbon fibre look but I didn't have an option and it can't be seen from a distance. I also thought the lettering was going to be gold but stoked to find that it's silver. Complete...

1 pointSo I am pretty new here, I have owned my current BMW for the past 7 years, my 1997 318Ti has taken me a lot of places and has never let me down! The M44 and auto box are starting to get a little boring so this week I am going to check out a 328i manual to potentially swap into it to make it a fire breathing dragon that still looks like a complete sleeper! Here is an old shot of it back when it was dirty and before I repainted it at the start of this year

1 pointIsn't the point of this forum to share our 'tricks' and knowledge with other members so all can benefit? For what its worth, painting the logos on tyres is not something I like the look of, but others might and will want to know how to do it. Rant over.

1 pointNot a rant, just puzzled/confused/discombobulated... I've just seen a used E30 Mtech kit - just the kit, no car - being offered on TM for $3k. E30 prices have gone a bit silly lately, but this seems a step too far. To me.
