8 pointsI've been a non smoker now from day one. Never have I touched a cigarette since the day I started this thread. It'll be 8 years this year

4 pointsTry to find a set of Contour seats Use her pregnancy as an excuse to spend the extra, but hurry up! You don't have much time!

3 pointsI replaced the grilles on my 540i when I had the bonnet resprayed, got them from BMW and im sure they weren't that expensive, I have a vague recollection of maybe $80 each, although that might be just what I told my wife I paid!

3 pointsbit of a thread dig.. its been about 3 weeks now since I stopped again for the millionth time. getting really expensive now and now I have been smoking for over half of my life which is probably a good enough time as any to try to quit again. Bloody hell..

2 pointsIf this goes ahead - and it would be an excellent idea - it'll be good news for us. It should mean a reduction in taxation and possibly price on ex-EU car parts, for instance. And foodstuffs. So the 'real' Marmite welike would be more readily available. (Up yours with you pale imitation, Sanitarium! )

2 pointsIt appears M5's and 540's share same grille with chrome on the leading edge of the slats, the 530 for example is all black slats. Be cautious of used grilles as the plastic tabs securing them are invariably brittle/broken, as was mine... a new set from Schmiedmann is about NZD 225 landed.

1 pointI remember being told that was the sensor related to the auto dimming mirror. Not sure how true this is. Some sort of ambient light sensor that determines when to activate the auto-dim function.

1 pointE70 4.8. I have noticed a slight improvement after doing the coils and plugs too.

1 pointCheap mate... about NZD 250 landed from FCP Euro, 290 from ECS tuning, and a gabillion (probably, haven't tried, unjustified speculation) from BMW NZ...

1 pointhttps://www.trademe.co.nz/trade-me-motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/interior/auction-1638270103.htm take the whole interior No doubt e38 seats are better then E39s albeit almost the same. As long as the foam isn’t deformed

1 pointThere is a huge amount of misinformation and scaremongering about the TPP. Its actually very, very good for all parties involved.
-
1 pointThe sports seats in your car is one of the most comfortable sports seats imo! the leather is softer than any other and had more padding/cushion than most others. The sports seats in my E39 sedan were much harder leather and less padded despite being NZ new. Comfort seats will be good though!

1 pointDid you read the new rules at all (been around since 2016) about suspension modifications? I’ve just had my car certified and I can tell you the new rules are lot more comprehensive and has already done away with the 100mm clearance requirement. (i’ve had no less than 5 cars lvvt certified since 1997) and the rules have changed significantly since back then. It is now about having sufficient suspension travel - the gist of it requires at least 40mm travel or at least 1/3 of original non modified suspension travel, amongst other things. When it lands on the bump stop it cannot contact any part of the vehicle body or shield ect. So with 60mm clearance I am willing to wager you will fail the cert period. There’s also extensive rules now about alignment and camber and castor angles - an alignment read out has to be provided to the certifier with suspension modifications - at least in my case. The car is scrutinised right down to the nuts and bolts used and suspension arm angle and binding, steering arm angle ect. For sump clearance - dry sump it : )

1 pointYou should bring the 530i LCI into scope and don't bother with a 130i. The 1 series is for singles or couples that don't need to take anything anywhere. The 540/550i won't be "good" on gas but are a nice car.
-
1 pointI love the 3.0L in my Z3. I test drove the 2.2 and they are great, but the bigger engine just has that feeling of effortless power. pics?
-
1 pointThanks ? The cover won't reseal and the differential has to be removed to get the cover off so suctioning the old fluid out seems to be the way to go.

1 pointFor what it’s worth, my X5 averages about 15L per 100km around Auckland (including a daily evening crawl on the Southern going home). Open road like Olaf I’m getting down to about 10L per 100km. Best I saw was 9 around bottom of the North Island where it’s nice and flat near Fielding and the like. You would think the sedan being two wheel drive and lighter could do better than that.
-
1 pointIf you can afford it the LCI is nice for a number of reasons and especially more so if it is a Msport spec with nicer seats, steering wheel, sports suspension and nicer bodykit overall. but that does not mean you should rule out the non LCI. just focus more on finding a well looked after example within your price range. No point to go for a high mileage LCI just cuz its cheap and no point to dismiss the well maintained pre-LCI just because its not facelift spec or not msport. I personally dont think there is a HUGE difference between the 540/545/550 but I havent driven them enough to say with certainty. They are all big powerful engines and any one of them should do alright. maybe just limit the search to any of those three models and focus on the other boxes it ticks. Drive the 130i hatch, heaps of fun and awesome sound but definitely feels like a small car and quite bumpy sporty suspension!

1 pointit's Wellington, brother! Just quietly, the understated centre of the universe; on occasion she quietly parts the curtains to reveal stunning beauty amidst that rugged stormy windblown exterior. Like that bogan lady you've known for years who's actually a debutante, slumming it. ?
