4 pointsHmmm. So say you guys buy $999NZD of goods and shipping at a time from Driftit No.1 Ltd based here in the US. I get supplied from FCP or similar. Once I reach 60K I start up Driftit No.2 Ltd and so on. No GST? Oh and it will be based in Delaware which has no local sales tax either. Actually I think I want to call the company 'NONZGSTLOL Ltd'

4 pointsWe're going to run the same wide body and splitter as the WTCC car as well as centre lock hubs and 270 slicks so Paul hung the fender on the car and test fitted a wheel he had lying around with spacers to emulate the centre lock adaptors - It looks like it should be a perfect fit once we align the car and add some camber. Paul also started to fabricate some of the carbon panels we are going to be using starting with the roof. In other news I managed to pick up a 6 speed sequential Quaife gearbox as well as a M3 subframe and diff which is currently being built by Kayne Barrie Motorsport.

3 pointsHave you been denied a WoF? If not I'd try and get one, my tow hooks (F/R) have never been inspected during a warrant. I'm pretty sure they'd never even know where to look. And heck, given every towie will throw chains around your control arms anyway, who needs a tow hook!?!?

3 pointsPut in a new thermostat and gasket housing ring, what a bitch that ring was to remove. Didn’t have to remove the whole plenum this time though so that saved a couple of hours. Now she gets up to normal operating temperature and doesn’t run as rich anymore.

2 pointsHi all, Im currently building an E46 to race in the North Island endurance series and thought it may be a good idea to document it here. My plan is to build a 'replica' of a WTCC car I had a few years ago but with the engine, gearbox and brakes from a V8 Super Tourer creating an unholy love child of two of my old race cars. I'm hoping to have the car weighing around 1,200KG and putting down about 650HP - for reference a standard Super Tourer is around 1,440KG and 550HP. Below are a few pictures of both my WTCC car and Super Tourer as well as a rendering of what the final car could look like (Excuse the poor quality).

2 pointsOnce the car got to Paul's place he started to really tear into it and cut out every inch of sheet metal that we don't need as well as prepare the car for air jacks, fuel cell and cage.

2 pointsI bought a 318i and started to strip the interior, remove sound deadening and prepare it to go to Paul (the car builder) to begin the cassis prep and cage.

1 pointIn the US the M325i is a 325is. I have no idea why they called it this. As for the E34. You have all 3. 535is, M535i and the 535i. In the US it is just the 535i. Which is odd because they did have an E28 535is, just not the E34 535is. My E34 535is is from the UK. Where you would expect it to be called a M535i or 535i Sport like the E30's from the UK.. And we thought the new model numbers were confusing. But the actual 325is is the South African version. There is one on TM for 60K+.

1 pointNow now children. Let's provide some helpful advice and if you don't have anything worthwhile then don't say anything. As long as the car fully checks out and you do your due diligence then doesn't matter where the car comes from.

1 pointOne thing that has bothered me since getting the car was that the transmission always shifted harshly and a bit weird. I put this down to either the trans needing to be serviced, or the xHP Stage 3 tune (I have no "stock" benchmark). Today i tried something that is a bit controversial online; the trans (or throttle) adaptions reset. Get in, engine off. Turn ignition to ON (idiot lights on), and press the throttle to the floor for 30 seconds. Release throttle, Switch off ignition completely. Now start the car and it should be reset. After doing this, the trans is behaving a hell of a lot better. D mode is now smooth (had some noticeable "issues" before, that could be easily replicated), and Sport mode isnt jerky anymore. I need to drive the car a few more times, but im almost positive its well improved.

1 point@BM WORLD or @HELLBM tend to have a couple of S engines floating around between them, so are probably able to give you a price on what they’d sell you one for.

1 pointThe car came back from the cage builder a few days ago and is looking great. I still had the FIA Homologation papers from my WTCC car so managed to replicate the cage exactly (we added in some rear subframe bracing due to the HP/TQ we will be running and the fact that this is a weak point in the E46). We also managed to test fit the seat, pedal box, carbon dash and steering column - I'm 6'2" and should be sitting in line with the B pillar.

1 pointI'd say it's pretty damn ideal to get one with those mods and new turbos + HPFP ect. A good buy for sure!

1 pointCertainly going to be interesting on how it will work & be policed. That said, I don't have a problem on paying GST, what has really pissed me is (unless flying under the radar) $399 has cost just that. $401 (if picked) has cost about $520 ish - with the other associated costs added. So it will now cost $461 - as it should.

1 pointWho is actually going to police the 60k-1 million per year overseas vendors? I can see that the biggest few would comply but cannot see most vendors caring at all. Thinking about it though between ebay, amazon and alibaba thats probably >50% of sub 1k imports anyway. Not a bad haul for the no new taxes govt, will go a long way to building some real flash HNZ houses.

1 pointI went to Providence in the late 90’s, Rhode Island in the fall is something to behold.
-
1 pointThought about getting the existing one rebuilt? Then you’ll have a nice fresh gearbox rather than another gearbox of presumably unknown provenance
-
1 pointSold the 530i to a bloke in Christchurch. He is an enthusiast too, so it has gone to a good home.

1 pointQuick clean yesterday, and for once it didn't rain overnight so it's still clean today!

1 pointNah not down here in Wellington, I've had them since I bought the car in March last year and have been all over the place and never had any issues. Yeah I bought the bolt on's to be able to Stage 2/2+, but even at Stage 1+ it's a massive difference over stock and I found it's more than enough, without an LSD in these it's hard enough to put the power down as it is

0 pointsI think there is a very real chance that is what will happen. NZ could find itself off the edge of the world as far as small business international trade is concerned. Which will leave the door open to the bigger companies to bring in container loads of items, and charge a fortune for them.
