Did you use silicone rtv sealant in place of the butyl tape that seals the door moisture barriers? If so that’s going to be fun to deal with when a door lock actuator or window regulator fails... You can test the moisture barriers are sealing with door cards removed, close door, hose on the outside of door window, open opposite door, check for water leaking out between the door and moisture barrier. If the carpets got damp and it was musty smelling chances are the foam under the carpet is still wet and growing mould/mildew.

If it weren't for the excessive sealant you'd probably be able to loosen the cam cover bolts and push the gasket back into place but I'm not sure I'd risk it with that much crap spread around. Get it hot, take it for a good long run and check for leaks... if it doesn't leak it may be "good enough" until you want/need to lift that cover again in the future. What you can't see is the spark plug gaskets... lord only knows how well they did those or how much crap they put on them... pull the plugs in 500 km's and check for oil.

+1. If the rear carpet is damp then that foam underneath will be soaked. Probably pay to remove the rear seat and bottom trims and see if you can pry the carpet up enough to air it out, otherwise you may have to remove the front seats and center console. Sealing corners of rear quarter panel glass helps lessen water entering when the seals are aged.

Had mine for years, no squeaks or anything. I think they don't move like sway bar and control arm bushes do, so it's not as much of an issue with them. For control arms I went with the M3 parts, think vibration, noise issues ect are more likely there if you go too stiff.

I havent a peep from mine since install, its the eibach ones on the sway bar at the front that are a ball ache.

BMWorkshop did mine. BTW you may as well skip ahead to full on hard poly bushings. Used AKG Race bushings on my E92 335i, absolutely no impact on comfort or noise. Do it once and they will never need replacement again. Might be a bit different for the 1 series but I doubt it.

Closing the loop on this... US$367 all in. PayPal fully refunded me and cancelled the security deposit. AVIN sent me a new discounted invoice which I was happy to pay (honest boy). So, for all my hassle I ended up with about a NZ$250 discount, nothing to sneeze at. To be honest, I can't complain about AVIN's after sales service despite them sending me the wrong unit (the unit was incorrectly packed, the main box was labelled as I had ordered, the contents were incorrect).

X5 in with Jon for window, squeaky passenger door trim and ABS. The ABS repair guy hasn't come across the set of errors we've seen happen twice. Odd. It will be checked out... this will be the last claim under Autosure as the 4 years is up next month. Can't say enough good things about Autosure. Other stuff.. ordered some stuff from Schmiedmann... new rear wiper assembly for the X5 new trunk lights for the E46 (as the top seals are split) - John Autoteile units were $US30ea. Jon had real trouble trying to find replacements here in NZ and more importantly new RHD heated left wing mirror glass for the M5... well priced at ~$US144 vs $US475 for the auto-dip variation. It is worth noting that there are different parts for RHD and LHD vehicles - I expect this is due to the different curvatures being optimised for the different driver positions. Always good to use RealOEM to chase down specific parts based on your VIN!!! Met with Jon this morning, reviewed what we needed for the M5 and ordered stuff from Turner Motorsport MOST importantly - the rod bearing overhaul kit with BE Bearings and rod bolts for the M5's S85.... $US1580 few bits and bobs for the overhaul replacement hood alarm switch for the X5 - I've unplugged it currently due to the alarm going off at random times of the day and night- which isn't ideal So I'll be up for the 5% duty and GST on the big Turner order of course... but that's to be expected. Pleased to see I actually already had a Customs Client Code from 2016. One article I read recommended replacing the M5's sump pan with a LCI unit as it has a second drain hole and is less likely to retain mucky oil through changes - but these cost a heap ($US1200 from memory) and weigh a heap!! So maybe not.... Was looking at replacing the X5's rear door speaker covers as one is missing a label/emblem - but discovered that somebody has installed Soundstream aftermarket speakers and covers - so will have to flag that idea. No biggie. All good fun! ?

Im not going to waste my time, but if you want proof im sure you can find it. Seeing some of the stuff presented to certifiers that gets fixed, its obvious that there are a lot of cars on the road that otherwise would've been deathtraps. Sure, there will be a few out there that arent following the rules, but between road policing and the WOF system, it picks up a lot of the stragglers.
