5 pointsHey guys, sorry for not writing anything in a long time. This Tuesday, I finally got the car roadworthy! The week before I had the certification done but got delayed with the WOF. Currently, it is running the 4.44 auto differential, hence the max speed will be 166 at 6200 rpms.. that is short! If anyone has a small case LSD 3.23 or 3.45 diff to sell, I am happy to hear your price. Back to the time line and some pictures, Last yeas I was lucky enough to go visit my family twice (September and October) and then there was some construction, so the tear down of the E36 started in December 8th 2019... with the summer around, it was a nice moment to get some sunburns working on the car. December 22nd I've managed to remove the old M44 engine and by January 25th I was presenting the M54B30 into the chassis. Remember that I kept working 9 to 5 in a completely non-related industry, so, working only after hours, weekends, but also enjoying the wonderful landscapes NZ has to offer, so although the project didn't have the speed I wanted, I wasn't going to burn myself on it. Jan 26th with the engine mounted I started the measurements for the driveshaft, and the modification of the joint, driveshaft hoops installations, etc. The guys at ADL did an excellent work Meanwhile I had to ship the DME to the US to have it re-programmed and the harness sent to connect the OBDI chassis withthe OBDII engine, and by March 25th, the engine was "running", and thatwas already under lockdown... so my birthday (March 29th) I spent it working on the car, as well as that endless month of march, in which I decided to go with a set of XYZ coilovers and the next day, it was June 20th (Where did all these days went?), so, took it to a proper workshop (Pit Stop Albany, with Nathan, another crack who helped me a lot on this), and did the bits and bobs that I was not able as it was winter, wouldn't be working on the floor, or didn't have the proper tools..so, they purged the brakes, aligned the wheels, did the exhaust and put a very nice sounding Adrenalin-R Muffler (see the instagram video) and then, off to the certifier... failed but just for a couple of details, nothing major, which I had the guys at pit stop working on it again, the freaking airbag light decided to make an appearance but given it was a custom work, a trip to the electrician (Gareth from GT Electric in Glenfield, another superstar) and then, August 26th the LVVTA plate was issued, and then, back to the warrant this tuesday... I don't know who will read this of them but like I said, Gareth from GT electric, managed to get the cabling fixed in less than a week, and charged me next to nothing, Pit Stop Albany, Nathan did a really good work, Brent from BM World gave me a good guidance the times I went (would love to get the compressor but not in my budget now haha). and will probably be forgetting somebody else, so, sorry for that. I wanted to get more details but don't have pictures of everything, or they would need too much explanation. If anybody has a question on how I fixed this or that, I am more than happy to reply below to keep track. By the way, I designed an LED circuit to replace the silly 12v lamp for the heater lights... I'll be testing that out and let you know how it goes if anyone wants to try it out. I'll be uploading more stuff into my instagram https://www.instagram.com/bmwupgradeproject/ Next Sunday, will try Hampton Downs in the caffeine and gasoline run with (hopefully) some telemetry from Track Addict. cd5f88fc-9930-4e92-b19a-ff47ea7383dc.mov

2 pointsId wager most put them on for ride height adjustment\stance. They obviously don't care too much about handling because most of these cars with them fitted (esp Jap stuff) are typically on some sh*t spec rubber.

1 pointI finally found the version on my engine: B48B20A, same as the the 320i. It's probably only the newer versions of the 330e that come with the better engine... The newer 330e also has 113hp from the electric motor, while mine has 76 so not surprised they can get those 430hp from the new car ? I think I'd be very happy with 250 + 76... will need to wait and see. I also thought I would be very happy waiting even further to do the intake but Harry you're changing my mind... Btw, many thanks Harry and Navin for the feedback and links!! Really helps having more information on the topic

1 point18K is too much for me when the silver one went for so much less, but let me know if the E36 needs to be shuffled to make way for the 540iS.

1 pointNot just you. And there's the misconfiguration of the forum software, raised months ago. And the lack of proper security certificates, also raised months ago. Given the amount of free technical support and even cold hard cash that's been offered by members here it's pretty inexcusable really.

1 pointThanks for the comments :), it needs to be BMW engine in there... agree its not the cheapest/ power option but needs BMW under the hood. So I fluked it this week... picked up a X5 E53 4.6is (M62TUB46, 347hp) from a local wrecker, rego lapsed and didn't want to revin and sold it to a wrecker, I've just purchased the whole car minus wheels and a few other random bits missing. This will be the perfect engine after a bit of maintenance work is completed, allegedly drove fine when dropped to yard, around 250k on the clock apparently so will investigate the engine and perhaps try and find some history if possible.

1 pointYes, less than half a degree. I've just checked my alignment sheet, camber pin mod + M3 front arms = 1*34' so 1.5 degrees 1*12' (was reading the wrong column!). FYI: https://babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=96465

1 pointCamber plates officially need a cert but if you get fixed ones nobody can tell. M3 LCA's will also help increase the camber. Yes, remove the camber pin first, then I'd say add M3 arms and finally camber plates. I'm sure the Dinan ones are hella expensive but you can get some from the UK for peanuts. I'll check my alignment sheet when I get home, I've removed the camber pin and added M3 LCA's, I think I've got about 1.5 degrees max.
-
1 pointI've just purchased an E82 and have been looking into this aswell. You can buy Dinan fixed camber plates that give about 0.7 of a degree extra camber and keep the original BMW top mount. When the alignment pin is removed this should get close to the magical two degrees.

1 pointHi all I have a 2009 E91 335i LCI Japanese import. I'm wanting to do a trans service and replace the pan/filter etc. Just wondering if anyone can confirm whether I have a GA6HP19Z or GA6HP26Z transmission? It's LCI but still has the N54 engine. Thanks in advance

1 pointThat’s both sharp and fair price in my opinion. I sold mine for around $12,500 all those years ago and it had either 340,000 or 380,000km on it. Farmers kms though, long open road driving only.

1 pointIts back And 5 stud swapped tonight Have some old eibach springs in there and original shocks bolted in to hold all together. Will work on getting medium case tidied up and lsd in. Steering rack on its way so will swap that over and finally start bolting the main parts in
-
1 pointIf you've got the budget - that would be a big upgrade. And you would get a massive portion back if you ever sold it separately. Beat me to it. That is what really kills the idea of coil overs in NZ. Different chassis, but I got Koni 'yellows' recently and am very happy. Post pics

1 pointIf I had kept mine longer this was the next thing I would've invested in. Did a bit of research on it over the years and I came to the conclusion that the Bilstein B8/eibach springs combo was the most ideal. I don't believe the drop is too significant and the Eibachs seemed to have a smaller drop than the H&R's from memory. The factory E82 M-sport suspension just doesn't suit our roads at all.

1 pointHi there, Picked up an E46 330i Touring a few months ago and have been fixing it up to be a reliable daily. So far I have done the following: - Full cooling system refresh (Including hard lines under the intake manifold) - Front pulleys and drive belts - Power steering reservoir and hoses - CCV Replaced - Intake boots - Oil level sensor - Oil filter housing gasket - Valve cover gasket - Vanos rebuild - New DISA valve - Engine & transmission mounts - Windshield cowl - Transmission filter & fluid - FCAB's - Front control arms - Tie rods - Wheel bearings - Stock sport springs from HellBM - Sport Sway bars from BM World - Koni Special Active shocks on all four corners - Set of Style 72 rims to replace the Style 79 rims that came with the car - Changed differential fluid - Other little minor things around the car What I have got left to do is to replace all the bushings in the rear (If anyone has an RTAB tool I could borrow...) and I am looking at getting some new tyres soon since the ones that came with the new rims are pretty average. Best money spent so far was on the shocks as the originals were completely shot. And having everything in the cooling system replaced is great for peace of mind. For the future it would be nice to swap in a manual, but for now the auto is pretty good for what it is. Only major issues I have had is a tire blowout in Wellington on state highway 1 near the terrace (I think I must of run over something on the motorway), and a fuel line disconnecting itself which left me stranded outside Kumeu (Car didn't catch fire which was good). Overall the experience has been pretty good though, the car's fun to drive and I have learnt a lot during the process.

1 pointB12 kit made a huge difference to my E36. Before with the standard spring/shock grip wasn't good in corners with lots of bumps. Now you feel them but the car doesn't move off line at all. It's even softer to small bumps. The handling has been massively improved and it feels like it will never let go. I suspect the B12 kit would be at least as good and maybe better for the E87.
