Thread cleaned up. Let’s keep it pleasant and on topic please. Thank you Admin.

I guess it will come down to what makes the most money, plus you're always going to have competing technologies and companies behind them saying their version of something is better. Let the consumer decide. Likely we will see a diverse market as like with most consumable goods, there is never just a one size fits all solution. I saw an article the other day from Toyota CEO, he made some interesting points I agreed with https://www.wsj.com/articles/toyotas-chief-says-electric-vehicles-are-overhyped-11608196665 Interesting thoughts from Mr Akio Toyoda!

Another update on the exhaust. I also added an exhaust tip into the mix...excuse the dent. It has gained 30mm or so of clearance,. but I think I can get a bit more with a few extra tweaks. I dropped it back down, and drove it around for a bit to check for leaks. Found no issues. But I'm going to make a few final changes to maximize clearance, hopefully this weekend. Up on the ramps it goes. The stainless is starting to colour in nicely. That's all, folks.

Finally, the other item I forgot to include in my runthrough of what you need you consider as part of your M5x swap is - amongst your certing, suspension refresh, and brakes - the 5 stud swap. If you want to know how it's done, don't ask - google. A specific form of e36 front control arms, some knuckles, the rear from one of the Z3's or a Ti (I forget which), and then of course the right rotors, calipers, pads etc. You'll find more -ve camber, and a big selection of wheels... join the long queues of e30 conversion owners looking for a diminishing supply of the same 16 and 17 inch 5 stud wheels. Have you bought a car yet?

Slow progress getting it back on road. All parts arrived to be able to fully re-assemble, but noticed that there was evidence of leaking from one of the plenum oil return hoses. Being that all 3 were original 1999 date coded parts along with the radiator, hoses and fan clutch I decided to renew all of these given their age and reluctance to have to re-visit working on this engine any time soon. So another week or 2 and those parts should arrive. In the mean time i’ve fitted all new idler pulleys, new gen bmw alternator, replaced the ac pulley clutch bearing and re-installed the bank 1 upper chain cover.

That's the theory, however, the practice is much different 😉. And I don't give MP's any credit... 🤣 Anywho, will still be keepin' the V8's regardless of what the future holds haha

Plug and play screen replacement is the way to go. There’s no way to justify the cost of a CIC or NBT retrofit any longer. Even a Carplay/Android Auto interface box would be a better solution.

Even Ferrari has a shooting brake in it's stable. A bit more "Clown Shoe-ish" (Z3 coupe) than the Z4 shape.

@E30 325i Rag-Top I wonder if we might see backtracking when the magnitude of mining all of those rare earths starts to become clear. it's apparent that 'whitegoods' cars are a clear case where EV is better than ICE but I suspect / hope that multiple power sources depending on the application will be the plan going forward... 'JAG' is the Green who comes to mind when I think virulently anti-car (not just ICE powered ones).

M54B30 has got to shuffle along in an E30! Certed for everything except engine, and looks like needs a little love but solid base for a wicked sedan. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-3123801682.htm

No. Austere models - now referred to as 'poverty spec' are low-cost, optioned down, to keep the price low. It usually added $1000 or thereabouts to the price to add an autobox. So no, the 'luxury' of Automatic has no place in a poverty spec car of the 70's or 80's. Go buy a car already! PS - poverty spec is a pretty ironic reference for a cheap 4 cyl BMW that cost more than half the price of a three bedroom house in a second or third-tier suburb back around '87-90.
