Car is back from the panel beaters after a minor mishap with a parking kerb -last month - decided to take advantage of my low excess to get it perfect - new OEM bumper colour matched and new undertray πŸ‘ŒπŸ½ Pretty much everything in this photo except the windscreen has now been repainted / replaced for anal cosmetic reasons 🀣

I've owned mine for ten years now and have been tidying up the cosmetics the last couple of months to (hopefully) bring it close to the condition of this one. Mine's just ticked over 350k but has been very well looked after for at least the last 20 years. It still pulls like a train, gets plenty of attention and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Don't underestimate how good these cars are and how good they sound. I wouldn't take mine out of the garage for any offer under $25k.

This is quite a nice example. Would also take one of these over an E30 any day of the week. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3147659244?tm=email&et=45&mt=79F4475F-6C8D-4859-8EC2-79132A4FA124&bof=YSbSTjo4

Trademe is a forum of sorts - comments / opinions appear to be freely permitted (but can be removed on request). I don't think you can honestly dictate people where to share their opinion and where not to - if the media allows it. This forum at times is not immune from being a cesspit either. I can link some threads here waaay worse than anything ever seen on trademe.

Have been driving the car around a bit more lately, and generally it's been working well. The power steering is still pretty noisy, so I think it'll need a new pump. I may also add a baffled P/S reservoir to combat the leakage...and better cooler may be on the table too. The throttle cable is a bit stiff, and can make the throttle a little difficult to modulate at low loads. Will have to try make some tweaks to the cable routing to loosen it up. The ECU tune may also be working against me here too. I may need to make some adjustments to the decel ignition timing maps. The car also experienced a phantom misfire event a few days ago, when I was driving in the wet. It felt like the engine was only running on 3 cylinders, but just for a few moments. And we noticed the reverse lights (LEDs) were slightly illuminated when in neutral at idle, and seemed to brighten when the engine occasionally stumbled. I guess an electrical gremlin is hiding somewhere, maybe ground related. But since, I've had no issues at all...go figure.

That is most strange. Or is it coincidence that the car is being marketed by barryn63, also selling Autoglym products on TradeMe?

Indeed, MKII Jaguars used to be $2k with a couple of bodies and engines for spares, and we used to buy VW Beetles or Split-screen Kombis for under a grand. Supply has diminished and demand has increased; nostalgia burrows its way into bank accounts and slush funds with remarkable fluidity. πŸ˜‰ This is a good thing I reckon. Desirability keeps these models alive. The Allegro is an obvious exception. 😁

A very cool car. My dad had a 535i back in the late 90s, it was good times. I'd be tempted if I could sell my Maserati, but I suspect people with car money have already spent it post COVID so it may be a buyers market. I also suspect that 535i is wanting more than I am willing to pay for it. I'd have to buy the B5 RS4 which is only a little more money and a lot more fasts. Edit: I f**king hate how people think trademe is a forum now. The internet is such a cesspit.

Ended up picking up the dark blue 2005 530i msport wagon I linked. Drove a 325i as well which was a bit sportier but felt a tad small for me. Not many low km diesels around at the moment in my budget, excluding gray/silver/white (fussy I know). It seems in great nick and drives well, it’s back at the dealer today sorting a spare key and checking out a couple of codes (purge control valve or maybe petrol cap by the look of it). Looking for a spare wheel kit now and investigating options for Bluetooth integration, might put one of the replacement screens in that retains idrive. Will no doubt have a few threads in other areas of the forum in due course. Thanks for the assistance.

the ae86 has gone, though not with any lingering sadness. It needed to go to make room in the garage for the car I have been looking for for what seems like ten years+. 1984 Fiat Strada 130TC Abarth. It's mint. Happy as, me.

Another update on the exhaust. I also added an exhaust tip into the mix...excuse the dent. It has gained 30mm or so of clearance,. but I think I can get a bit more with a few extra tweaks. I dropped it back down, and drove it around for a bit to check for leaks. Found no issues. But I'm going to make a few final changes to maximize clearance, hopefully this weekend. Up on the ramps it goes. The stainless is starting to colour in nicely. That's all, folks.
