2 pointsThey’re a specific run out model called “318iS Motorsport” at the time, has sports chassis etc and M44 engine, lots of leather and goodies of the time. Came in wild colours if you liked including this Dakar Yellow and awesome Fiji Green, as well as a dark blue and I think black/charcoal. They were quite fancy at the time , made with love in RSA 🇿🇦 . There are a few forum threads on these, some going back over a decade. They’re a fondly looked at little 4 door.

2 pointsYep, they call them "dumbo" mirrors. Also CCC -> CIC, (proper) Bluetooth as standard and the intro of the DCT box.

1 pointWill be interested see the reserve on this - must be getting close at $14,600. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3231220903?bof=LIPgjs61 Not a factory manual, but looks to be well sorted. Coincidently I see that this car appears on some "Those Car Dudes" YouTube videos:

1 pointMy old car, did a ZF conversion with parts from Nick Weitz. Sold it for 7k back in 2015 on the gunmetal BBS RG's with no other mods. Prices are mental!

1 pointI think you’re right @Sammo : If your daily needs are taken care of already by something okay, expressing yourself and interests in a second, older or fun car makes sense. I have a mint 16 year old GTI NZ new that has now done 107kms; to get into a new GTI is $60k and it will be a much better car but unsure I’d get $50k more enjoyment out of it (would really like adaptive cruise control 🤔). So with electric cars on the horizon am hanging onto the Golf for now as it is a great drive and practical. So instead of a newer car I bought an E30 for the other side of the garage. Still mulling that over tbh but it sounds feels and smells amazing and I have had four of them in the past but never a 325i. So a mix of all of your factors really come to play.

1 pointSame thing as what is happening / happened with JDM cars - people wanting something a little different / old school and it seems older cars are no longer looked down on as 'cheaper' so making it cooler to not have a newer version. Largely fueled by Youtube hype / Nostalgia as Driftit says. Plus these people having a bit of coin now / feeling confident because their equity has shot up and the bank is bending over to hand out 'cheap' debt. Personally, sign me up on joining the Hype train and paying 'through the nose for an old, slow, unsafe car in need of work - there's nothing modern that really interests me for under $30k.

1 pointWith a bit of RWD manual 90s tax thrown in for good measure. Probably an OK price then in that regard.

1 pointA really good example with pretty low kms, whomever gets it will be totally stoked, will be a keeper!

1 pointAgreed - no sense in messing with the sparkly new cover. (it has frustrated me enormously) I've seen enough of a gap in the market to do it myself, but I'm six months away from you sending your old cover down to me to blast for you. There's a few places in Auckland that could vapour blast the cover, but the jury is out on how well the magnesium alloy reacts to the shot peening effect that vapour blasting imparts on the metals being cleaned. Ideal for grey cast iron surfaces, but there's potential for microscopic cracking on alloys, and not enough real world testing to give a definitive answer on whether it's a good idea or not.

1 pointThe "magnesium" covers are MgAl9Zn1(A) aka EN-MC 21120. Maximum mechanical temperature of 130 degrees but they don't start to melt until 490 degrees or so. I'd be inclined to dry ice blast an older cover and then zinc plate it.

1 pointObviously the CSL's have an influence, but from side on, it's surprising how similar the E46 is to the 1M from the b-pillar back.

1 pointMy apologies that was the Bosch part number. After finding the BMW part number it looks like I've answered my own question !

1 pointWow beautiful E34 touring in green, looks the part. So shinny too. Yeah they are nice, I've pondered them for my E34, but it's so hard to make the choice, still not 100% on that look. I'm always quite fussy when it comes to wheels. I'm still leaning to 16s with fat tyres, maybe 17s.

1 point"if it doesn't sell ill keep it". Classic line for when trying to sell an overpriced vehicle. Needs stupid offers for stupid description.

1 pointEvery time I go out I plan to call you. Can't afford another car, but it's been ages since we talked. 😔 No reception at home, and for now we're not supposed to go places.

1 pointOther end looks tickety boo as well. New oil filter housing gaskets and pressure switch done, new plugs in. Injectors off to be cleaned and benched. Now we play the wait on the courier game... milvs/gaskets/belts/pulleys/coils(with new plugs to convert my old spec car)... and every single coolant pipe. Gives me time to find a new rocker cover.
