Big progress this weekend. First start up. Took today off so that I could have a 4 day weekend this week and get stuck into the compact. Pulled the N42 out. Cleaned up the engine bay a bit Few things fitted while the engine was out. CMP solid steering coupler, clutch hard line, smaller heater valve from the 330. Had to adapt the EVAP purge line from the larger OD pipe on the compact to the smaller OD pipe from the M54. Made a fitting that looks pretty factory and just clips into the original connector. Put in a third pedal. I'm super picky with wiring and hate when it's not tidy so a lot of time was spent making sure everything looked pretty original when wiring in the clutch switch. Power and ground from the brake pedal and the DME wire runs under the dash with the factory loom. I omitted the EWS wire and opted instead to just code out the need to press the clutch to start, it's not needed and tidier. When swapping from a N42 you have to wire in the AC compressor as well since it's part of the engine harness on the N42 and part of the chassis harness on M54 cars. Instead, since I'm deleting SAP which is in the same position as the AC compressor wiring, I just cut and changed the SAP connector to the correct one for the AC. The SAP wiring goes through a relay behind the glovebox so I bypassed it and moved the SAP pin at the DME to the chassis connector for the AC. No new wires needed, a much better solution than running a new harness all the way across the car IMO. My reverse switch was wiring in line with the factory harness while I had the engine out so the only additional wire running into the ECU box is the clutch switch wire, everything else utilizes the factory wiring. New clutch and flywheel on. Gearbox with all detents replaced, new guide tube, pivot pin etc. Started on the first crank. Snapchat-1404950484_1.mp4 Still lots to do. Waiting on some parts to finish rebuilding the rear end. Cooling, AC system, front end etc. Can't wait to drive it.

I am a sucker for a bargain, so I bought a very cheap Z3 that wouldn't run. Its a 2L M52TU and the previous owner stated the issue was the throttle body. I pulled the TB out and it was corroded shut. In the boot of the Z3 was another one, so I swapped it out, and now it runs nicely. These are a few more issues to fix: It sits very low in the rear and could do with being raised a bit. Not sure if it has factory springs, will have a look. The airbag light is on and I get the code, 1A MRS Seat Occupancy Recognition 1 (SBE1). I am assuming this is the seat occupancy sensor. Was thinking of using an Emulator. I also get F0 MRS, internal control unit fault. From what I have read this is not a good code to get as it locks the module. It can be reprogrammed, might be a call to Pramod. I get the code: A2 EGS: Brake Signal. From what I can see this is a faulty brake pedal switch. The central locking isn't working and I get: OD Central locking drive, open circuit. Yet to research. I also get 01: Fuse interior lighting. Load consumer deactivation. again yet to research this. Oh and its missing the front marker lights. The bonus is that the car has a warrant and rego, had nice two tone heated leather seats and is an LCI with and LSD and M sport suspension. My daughter likes it, and feels this will be hers. Her twin sister has a 130i. If anyone has any thoughts on the codes or fixes please feel free to comment.

Got a much needed clean today. I am very happy with how the car looks for now. Will be trying to paint and put on the skirts next week as well as the tech 1 rear wing. But for now, here she is in all her Delphin glory 🥰 so inlove with how it drives now too. Odo stopped working yesterday so ordered some gears from Garagistic. Will fit them as soon as they come.

Wow, an E30 M3 Sport Evo for $75k, I don’t remember that one! Even in 2010 IIRC that was pretty good buying. How to build a Time Machine to go back and snap up some of these bargains?

Car is behaving as it should now. Have done about 100km round town driving and it's good. I have an annoying noise mostly coming from the drivers window/door. The recommended (thanks bimmersport) gummi pflege looks like it has to come from overseas so might be a while before that arrives. I let the tyres down tonight to 36 PSI (I had pumped them up for storage) and that has made a bit of a difference to the comfort but not to the noise. Will get into some maintenance soon but in the mean time it's back to daily duties. Maintenance items on the cards. - New soft brake lines all round - Expansion tank (pretty sure it's still the original) - Trailing arm bushings - Transmission mounts - Diff bushings - Tensioner spring - 02 pilot mod - RTV thermostat housing to see if it stops the small drip, otherwise replace that.

Dropped the rear subframe to replace all the bushings and ball joints and swap to the 330 diff. I decided to paint the diff as well since it looked pretty brown and scabby. Came up very nice. I also installed the front bilsteins and 330 front brakes.

As some of you know I have purchased @Andrewold cabby. I am completely inlove with it. I have the vert tech 1 skirts and rear boot spoiler to complete it but I have spent the last couple of days doing some maintenance as it has been in storage. Changed the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, engine oil,oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, set the valve clearances and gave it a much needed tune up. Putting in a 3.73 lsd diff and new control arms, inner rack ends, tie rod ends and rear control arm bushings in tomorrow. I plan to paint it very soon and put my 3 piece 16 inch wheels on it. Here are some pics, absolutely in love. Will also be putting the factory tech 1 wheel in it and selling the immaculate tech 2 steering wheel.

It's the only other NZ new black tech 1 I know of. It's had some extensive restoration done too.

Has been a busy few weeks but have managed to get a fair bit done. Took advantage of the long weekend (Auckland Anniversary) and pulled to old motor out the car. Wasn't too bad of a job, a bit messy with all the coolant and oil that keeps spilling out and a few bolts that were a little tricky to reach but not too bad all in all apart from the downpipes that put up a real fight. So, old motor is out, most parts stripped off it. New motor is mostly assembled apart from the hot side. Turbos will be getting dropped off for a rebuild and slightly different CHRAs tomorrow. Have since installed a VAC sump baffle in the new motor, put on the sump with a new gasket and new bolts torqued to NEWtis spec of course. Valve cover is on, also new genuine gasket, same with oil filter housing vanos solenoids etc etc, all new gasket the whole way round and new bolts where applicable. Injectors are in again new seals and decouplers. Front main seal going in soon, wiring loom is half on. Waiting on turbos before i install water pump and thermostat. Then inlets and outlets will go on and the motor can go back in the car. I have cleaned the entire empty engine bay subframe steering rack etc and installed new Condorspeedshop engine mounts, have matching ones for the gearbox also. Have also stripped and cleaned the inline oil thermostat to ensure there are no metal bits in it and reassembled it with a 93C insert instead of the 85C insert to help car reach operating temp when street driven. Some photos below. Front end of the car coming off Engine coming out Sump baffle going in New motor with baffled sump installed New genuine gaskets Inejctors getting new seals and decouplers Engine bay being cleaned up Valve cover and injectors on the new engine New engine mounts Loom half on Oil thermsotat rebuild

It is a thing of beauty indeed, and I am a massive Tech I fan. I wonder where it will get to price wise? Shame the market for such toys is completely poked right now.

Been busy with this thing. Installed a new pioneer bluetooth headunit, shadowlined the chrome window trims, installed new control arms, poly superpro control arm bushings, ultra racing front sway bar, sway bar links, miro 16x7.5 et15 front wheels and 16x9 et 15 rear wheels, brand new Hella fog lamp assemblies and some Nankang NS2 tyres. She is riding beautifully now. Front end is done, next will be 3.73 lsd diff, rear poly trailing arm bushings and subframe mounts, rear Ultra Racing sway bar and brand new axle shafts. Then onto the exhaust. A couple of coby resonators in place of the factory resonator box and some BTB headers.

227,000km WOF time. Failed on a leaking front left shock. This was pretty annoying as they are only 14k old but it seems the dust boot has shredded and maybe got sucked into the shock breaking the seal. Looking back through this thread you can see the dust boots the shop put on originally are very baggy…classic scenario of $10 part shags a $300 shock. Anyway, new shock in (another Bilstein B4) with a new (bmw specific this time) dust boot and new ‘updated’ E46 wipers from BMW and the WOF sticker is on! And off to Bunnings for some insulation to make the house healthy homes compliant.

Did a little refurb on my Mtech 1 wheel - disassembled and re-dyed the original (good condition but faded) leather and centre section with Colour Lock Leather Fresh which came up fantastic - retained original texture but evened out wear and colour fading etc. Finished off crispy OEM roundel and ///M colour badge - looks great for only $100 or so spent. I do like the Tech 1 wheel but Will be keen to trade up to a 370mm Mtech 2 in near future however as I believe that is what was originally optioned on the car (although not sure why someone would swap out on a Tech 2 M325i?)
