Hey there everyone, I just scored an amazing deal on our new 1997 E39 528i - I've had a bit of a thing for the E39 for a while now, and I managed to convince my wife that she liked them by finding this one just up the road from us - 94,000kms, NZ New. She was sold as soon as she drove it! It's definitely the nicest sedan I've driven, it's a truly impressive car. Very happy to have joined the BMW club!

Certification recheck day! I'll either be crying into my pillow tonight or cracking into a bottle of something in celebration. Something for everyone at the certifiers.

Them's fighting words ? Best we organise a back-to-back with your - errr - "530i" then! ? Welcome to Bimmersport @Bener, looks like a beaut example.

Thanks for this, I'll definitely follow up on that advice. I took it to my mechanic who is a euro specialist and he said if I don't buy it he will, so that's a vote of confidence! He also said bring it in and he'll do the trans which I one thing I'd probably leave to the experts... I like to do most of my own work so I'll follow your recommendations for a start. The engine bay is super clean and the old owner just spent $800 on servicing so I'll be going back through the books today and setting what's been done. Not bad for $4,400! At that price I jumped on it quick! I do agree about the comparison to more modern cars, it's an amazing vehicle to drive and does not feel 20 years old.

I got some knockoff trim (not sure what you call this piece?) off ebay yonks ago but never got around to fitting it. Spray painted it black and glued the rubber piece on (see how long that lasts) and installed. The rubber piece doesn't line up perfectly with the bumper but I prefer it to having the smashed piece of undertray.

Hi guys, been a while, back in the mix with fresh import 335i LCI.

Couple pics Nick. Bit of a bummer in rears as offset for the E and F series are around 12mm apart, hence a inboard fitment. Was not interested in spacers and certs, price was right and easy to clean.

+ 1 for the GROM. Bluetooth + AUX + power, fit's nice and tidy. Worth the money in my opinion.

I had a GROM bluetooth unit in my last e39. Relatively easy install, good sound and reliable connectivity. Is on the expensive end though. Best thing about it was how well it integrated into the factory headunit (mine was also pre 2002). I was happy with mine and would recommend for E39 owners who want to keep the stock look but modern functionality https://gromaudio.com/store/bt3_adapters/bmw_mini_98-05_bluetooth_ipod_iphone_adapter_-_behind_the_radio_connector.html

Have a look at what I did for our daughter: Don't be put off by the 'headunit' description - we didn't go there!

These are such beautiful cars and yours is such a nice spec too. Not sure what the service history on this is like but I would recommend you do the following to ensure she treats you right long term: change all fluids/filters (including trans); get someone/yourself to check over the cooling system - at this mileage it’s probably all original; replace what will be tired and perished vanos seals; and thoroughly check over suspension. This is a beautiful example of a car that looks, feels and drives better than most new cars on the road (even newer versions of itself). Enjoy, and welcome to E39 life!

Looks like your decisions been made haha

Congrats! I'm sure it will last longer than 40k, it's been done by the trans masters.

Giving bimmersporters a chance on this, its a friends car but is getting traded on Saturday. Dealer is offering $36k so will take the same from any of you guys. PM and ill put you in contact. - 2016 with ~12,000km on it practically new - 275hp engine tuned to ~300hp - trophy specific factory options, recaro sportster seats, alcantara trim, akrapovich titanium exhaust, race computer - 1380 kg so its a cornering weapon, as fast as a e92 m3 around nurburgring and faster than e46 m3 - my friend is selling as he has moved and is now 5km from work so its the wrong car for a 5km traffic commute. - only issue i can see is a fingernail size scrape on back bumper and one of the Trophy stickers is starting to peel. 4 owners but i believe its dealer, first owner, dealer again and my friend.

Cool, if I were to do this again I would line up the rubber piece on the car first, rather than referencing the original in the garage.

Hi Guys, got tired of the old Rover- like wood look. Even had the rack bars done.

Looking on behalf of a friend for a pair of E46 Compact door lock actuators, does anyone have any laying around? Assembly is completely different to standard E46. Can't see anyone wrecking an E46 Compact on TardeMe so thought I'd try here and see if anyone has some.

I'm sorry to hear that, you've always been an upstanding member on this forum as long as I've been a member. Agreed completely with your last sentence, I think a lot are just venting at how they'd feel if this happened to them, public forums like this shouldn't need to turn into witch hunts, p**sing contests and slanging matches from people hidden behind screens. I wish you luck and hope you get some answers on the legal front, whatever they may be.

Thought I should clear the air a bit... I'm the original buyer that @gjm and @Olaf have alluded to. I have taken legal advice and am considering legal action. I'd prefer not to discuss the details on an open forum at this stage. Any advice directed at me please PM me. Feel free to continue expressing your want to live vicariously through a project thread though.

Car is back on the road. Another receipt for the folder... Looking at this photo I'm guessing that left broken mount is what they said they needed to weld up. Went home via VTNZ for a WOF. Got pulled up on the LED halo lights and the headlight adjusters need to be replaced, but it was a pass. I see the notes say the brake hoses need doing soon too. So nice to have remote locking and stereo controls on the steering wheel again. Fingers crossed this drum lasts longer than 40,000 km.

not much to be gained in performance with that model. if you want to go fast sell it and buy a 335i. otherwise spend money to do maintenance, good oil and filters, transmission service, and drive it normally. good daily car.
