If you want to change gears yourself, manual is the best option.

Hey folks, apologies for bumping an old thread - I've just had the same conundrum, and ended up buying some from Filthy Dog Decals - they seem pretty good for the money, and after about a month outdoors, it's still as good as when I first put it on. Potentially worth a try if you're after something that lasts! Can post an update as time goes by as well

How severe is the rubbing? If it's just slight then going to 225's should be enough. 235 at the front does seem a bit excessive for a stock setup. The shocks must be well gone if it's bottoming out that easily. A suspension refresh is well worth taking on if you're planning on keeping the car for any decent length of time.

Yeah it's definitely been redone. It's so supple and the workmanship is excellent. Bump 1000 bucks bimmersport members

Makes ya wonder how differently the market would have responded if the DCT was ever stuck to the N52. Its there in the coding options just was never sold. Manual definitely suits the 130, but agree... if you are going to beat on it in stop start traffic get an auto, then buy a manual for the weekend :) I like the DSG in the skoda, it is a good compromise, but still not the same as a manual box when "not commuting"

I was in the same boat last year. I thought about buying an auto since I could buy one for 5-6k, under 100,000kms. My problem was that I like driving manual cars and I can't afford to own a separate weekend car. I test drove a couple auto 130is but for me it wasn't enough to justify ditching my GTI with dsg box. So I waited and bought a manual 130i and I'm pretty happy with it as a daily. I do miss the dsg box when I'm stuck in traffic though. I agree with Driftit that if manual box is not a must, auto is perfectly fine as a daily.

The auto box is good for an auto. It is quite fast. They all come with paddles. There are a few mods for them too. I can't be assed with a manual for a commuter. Especially as they are so much more expensive. On another note. I think I stuffed up the auto wipers on my car. I hit the auto button and when they sense rain they just run the same intermittent timer. They don't change with rain intensity. Has anyone stuffed this up before and fixed it? I was mucking around with the features turning them off and on. It is possible it started doing this when I installed cruise control. I used the wiper stalk that came with it and it doesn't have a rear wiper ability.

If that's been redone then they have done a nice job pulling the leather up like they did on the original wheels.

Ditto this for me. Supersprint backbox with resonator delete. A bit louder than stock and still no drone. If I could do it all again I probably would've tried to find an N55 135i backbox instead and probably saved a bunch of money, but I do love seeing the supersprint tips sticking out the back!

Drove this a few times and all I can say is its got supercar like performance but all the manners off the gas. A true sleeper but with all the right bits on it.

Accurate around here. They are like the BA Falcon for people slightly more sophisticated. There is a guy with a white one around the corner who has just done a "burble tune" and he floors it up our road a few time a week, my wife said she was going to leave me for him because she loves seeing a car spin one wheel up a incline in the wet and wishes I would be more like him. I told her I can only dream of being in a position to finance a 20 year old BMW and remap it and I am working really hard to achieve that goad before 2025. Watch this space, its public now so no excuses.

A lovely silver E39 on Glenfield Road this evening. Came up behind it and was admiring it as I drove past. The driver then caught up with me to complement my car. Such beautiful cars!
