Unloader relay circuit not working. Either a faulty relay or it not getting an earth via the starter motor. Check wiring at the starter first. Should be two small wires attached.

Yep meant scan/monitor live data - i should have been more specific. I remember my E39 having all the lights on & no fault codes Wasn't till I looked at live data & caught the R/H rear sensor intermittently dropping out. Smelling a rat - I checked the output voltage to the sensor at the module & confirmed that dropping out intermittently - one f##ked ABS module

Ditto to my thoughts. My car was the first E39 in NZ for the Nav conversion after i bought it into NZ . Was uncharted territory at that time & a sh*t load of research made before completing the conversion.

Just to correct you - your "water pump" is a thermostat housing

It is Japan that alienates itself with a totally different Nav system to the rest of the world

The Jap version is the one in the boot. Euro spec is completely different. In the earlier ibus cars (which I can convert) the nav units are all in the boot/back but they are either Jap or Euro spec units. As I have mentioned - talk to Joe

Nup definitely not. There will be naff all information out there as it is a Jap car with Jap specific nav & useless anywhere else in the world. It requires hardware change & reprogramming. Contact Joe @ Euro Surgeon to convert it for you

As for the rust - that seems severe for that vehicle?

Most BMW (Varta) batteries last 10 yrs +, often 12 & more, ours did 11. Replaced one at work a couple of years back in an E36 - 17 yrs Back on topic - good luck with resurrecting the M5. From what you describe - sounds like a not very well thought out/ designed unit for the requirements of it. Not that ITB's was new technology when it was designed for this car.
