Even if you can afford an E60 M5, be vary wary. Fuel usage would be a minor factor. The cars are VERY expensive to maintain! This is the common issue with people using all their resorces in buying a BMW then expecting it to cost no more than a Corolla to maintain.

Jap 525i badging v Euro 523i is the same engine - either M52 or M52TU - both 2.5 litre Ours is a Jap M52TU, have driven a few M54 2.5's & not noticed any real difference. Not driven a manual though:- Daylight though between ours & the M54 3 litre.

Tragic but at least it was wasted on a 2 litre car. Re pic 10 - wonder who gave it the last WOF...

Many years ago & early days of Challenge, (we had a local outlet), I had an Audi Quattro Coupe. Had owned the car in the last year or so of leaded fuel being available where the car ran fine on the old 96 octane. Once the fuel changed, I found it almost un drivable without it pinging under normal driving when using any of the 4 main fuel companies gas. Worse on a hot day. Running it on Challenge almost cut the pinging. Running av gas cut it completely... Was talking to the Challenge suppliers at the time about it - they said their fuel was coming from overseas already refined & was guaranteed to be true 95. Proof was in the pudding with this car - it was different gas back then. Not suggesting that today's Challenge is sourced the same. Earlier post above suggests it's not.

That's debatable. There would be more Hyundai's around our way than Mondeo's, yet we would see more Mondeo's in the workshop for various reasons. Not that I have ever been a "high & dry" fan at all in the past, they have certainly stepped up their game in recent years. Not arguing as to which is a better drive.

What? A short circuit will blow a fuse & a relay wont operate on its own. Martyn - Check that a seat switch is not jammed "on" Have seen this occur in other vehicles. Not sure on the seat motors in your car but they may have circuit breakers, in which case if this has occured then the circuit breaker could be tripping in & out.

A hack saw to strip it out, mind boggles. On the weight thing - from memory i took over 20kg of sound deadening out of the boot alone in the E30

If the engine is still in the car, I use a socket/strong arm/pipe so the arm is set about 100mm away from a solid point in rotation direction (chassis rail etc) & flick the starter. Works a treat, except on a Honda with reverse engine rotation...

The E30 is still a solid well made car - look at what they take on the race track. Albeit in a "controlled" environment. Nothing wrong with the M40 engine either. Another option, i have recommended to many parents looking for a first car for kids, - a P10 or P11 Primera. If a previously well maintained car - they are absolutely bullet proof & totally reliable. Also a reasonable sized car.

No experience with them but from what you state - certainly they are fobbing you off. Has it failed the same way as the first replacement did? Take them to task over it.

Ken, First thing I would be doing to eliminate the obvious is to confirm the battery voltage in each remote. New battery does not necessarily mean a good one. I realize you say they are both the same but eliminate this first. Yes I would say key association with the car would be constant. Can't say I have come across this problem
