What type of oil are you using?
-
Not if it’s been driven on, which is the whole point of them. But you’re right, you can repair a slow puncture.
-
Pretty sure you also can’t repair a run flat. They are a pretty hopeless idea in my view. I’d rather take the hit in mileage and just carry a spare then if you damage a wheel or, like in many places you are simply too far from a tyre shop you can still make it to where you need to.

Two new scorpions for the rear. q-_-p feels a lot better though.

My convoluted brake change tale...

Can you not set the gun to a specific torque? -
Wouldn’t a vinyl wrap be easier and still durable?

My convoluted brake change tale...

Glad to hear it all got sorted, those pads are looking fairly close to the bone. A couple of moons ago I had Beaurepairs do four new tyres on an E39 I had. They made a point that they rattle gun the first bit and then always do a final hand tighten for that exact reason. This was the Newmarket branch, don’t know if that makes a difference but I was left with the impression that this was their operating procedure. -
Illegal to fit normal tyres after run-flat??

Are there no independent shops in Masterton you could get to help you out? One of the first things I did with my E70 was throw away the runflats before they turned my spine to dust. -
You could pick up a Lexus V8 for a little more than the repair cost you’ve been quoted. If you want to keep it I would get a second quote on the valve stem seals, that does seem high. This V8 is one of the key reasons I got a MBI. Only thing is mine likes to nickel and dime me to death just below the insurance excess!

Lovely drive between Dunedin and Invercargill. Did it in autum about 10 years ago. Good roads and not too much traffic, what will it be like on Christmas Eve?

Interesting to hear the costs on the bearings and then this pops up on my YouTube recommendations today: No idea if he’s doing everything you should be doing but does not seem to be too major for a once in a life of the car fix.

Any recommendations on a UK-based online parts supplier?

Oh well, it’s all the same until the end of March anyway. -

Yeah a lot of the freight I’ve seen out of the USA for the discs is laughable. Micks garage out of the UK actually looks pretty good. VAT refund still exists in the EU and it’s easy to do at the airport. I have an extra bag to spare when I travel so I was going to pick up a pelican case and just bring that back with me, easy as. But why bother if I don’t have to! On the topic of Brembo and made in China. China made in and of itself is not a bad thing. All I’ll say is the manufacturing of some of this stuff is pretty basic and I would imagine pretty variable. Some of it might as well be made of chocolate. -

Hey Team, According to my mechanic I’ll need new rear brakes in about 4-5000kms. Since I will be in the UK for a week or so in early ‘19 I want to pick them up there (epically the discs) and bring them back with me. Anyone know a good place in the UK to source items like this? Also any recommendation on brands? I was thinking of going with Brembo, Pagid or something like that. On a side note a couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit a brake disc manufacturer in China. They were making parts for a range of brands including some well known ones. Apparently another common thing is for the factory to supply a sort of partially finished product to some big brands for final finishing. In a lot of ways that makes me lean more towards BMW branded or Pagid as I believe they completely control their own supply chain... Thanks the any advice. -
Sad thing is that this car was registered here in April of this year.

I watched this and thought that this is normal for a European car at over 100,000 miles with dubious service history.

Paddle shift looks interesting, anyone know about that?

Yeah I looked on the site but I couldn’t see what the actual list of benefits was... which MBI and how much?

Is there some kind of discount you can get via the BMW Car Club?

Good work on keeping the 81s I had them on my silver E39 and loved them. Still regret trading in that car.
-
I really think a better way to weigh it all up is this: All that petrol money for the 335i tied up in that Honda. Tsk tsk.
-
They sure do look cool though.
-
Does insurance cover this kind of stuff? Might be worth just asking to get the tyres, wheels and anything else that might have been caused sorted for the cost of the excess.

Diesel is the fuel of Satan and this proves it. ?
