What model is the ecu as their are 7 listed and they have any where from 3 to 5 separate connectors/module to them. The trans has 5 listed what do you need to know about the cluster wiring?. Might be that you have the latest java which will not allow you to connect need to tell it to allow it.it appears it sees it as a risk have it open and looking at it.

If you suspect the ignition switch try this test. You don't need to cut the rubber protection at all just peel it back. Their will be little to see unless the outer cover of the wiring has been damaged what happens is with the action of opening and closing the boot the copper wire filaments work harden then brake. This creates an open circuit and all sorts of weird things will happen. These wires need to be tested then the faulty one's , if any removed / repaired problem solved. It is a pain but welcome to the problem world of e39 owner ship best of luck.

Hi, Sam best to have a chat to a cert gay and find out what regs apply to your situation.he should be able to help you out. It can become a mine field as one things says this and another says that and then it gets expensive. From memory it will depend on how much % wise you have increased the hp above the manufactures rating.

yum, yum lucky the cylinder liner didn't disappear as well. Reminds me of a series 2a land rover which did destroy the cylinder ended up with a holden 202 transplant. Best of luck with the new beast you have to instal.

As others have mentioned should your order exceed the NZ $400 limit then break the order down. That is if the freight cost for the other parcel is less than the GST going to be charged on the first order. Have used Pelican now for the last eight odd years parcels have taken no more than 5 to 8 days to arrive. This will depend also on what you order and were it has to come from if item in stock then all good but if not and has to come from a bmw supplier then add a couple of days to that . Have found the best time to order has been a Thursday night NZ and the order is on your door step by Tuesday also for me have found the USPS track system seems to stop when the item hits NZ customs. Best of luck

Ask Glenn Osbourne about his M52B28 Compact conversion sure he can fill you in on all the details. Have a e46 compact which I put a M54b25 into as one they were produced from factory. Two it didn't involve having to change all the suspension and brakes plus all the other bits and pieces that crop up when going to a larger motor /drive line. It has been done their is an site in the US for e36 compacts and some of the conversion they have done. also the e36 compacts did come out with m52b23 factory.

Would say one should be able to fit the e38 system into the e39 as they are basically the same set up. Some of the mount brackets might be different and so is the way it is wired from Japan set to NZ.The radio is shifted to the rear and the screen takes up that space. Other with more knowledge than I will no doubt chip in but try this link and have a read. https://www.google.co.nz/#q=fitting+nav+to+a+e39+bmw

First off is the E36 set up anything like the e46. The e46 had an issue with faulty wiring /connection in the section from the seat belt tensioner to where it connects in to the loom. The original wiring over time developed a fault which resulted in the warning light coming on then going out .Also check to see that the rest of the wiring is connected properly under the seat as a stray foot thrust under the seat could up set things. Best of luck these problems can be a pain in the butt to locate https://www.scribd.com/document/63883492/SI-Repair-Instructions-for-Seat-Belt-Tensioner-Ignition-Circuit

Needed to run an extra wire from the alternator to the cluster when i did the conversion on mine. The n42 wiring only had the 0ne blue wire and the charge light would not go out.So i ran another a pale green with blue trace is what the wiring diagrams showed. This was for 2002 nz new 316 compact with a N42 b18 engine. The wiring for the a/c compressor I found was not long enough to reach the new position. The n42,46 is on the left side of the motor while on the right for the M54. By stripping the wiring back as far as i could and re-routing it..It still needed to be lengthened. That is interesting to know about the rear subframe / body issues. Will you be trying for a coupe look since you don't like the compact style?

Interested to know what you did with the alternator and the air con wiring ? Are you going to carry out the reinforcement of the chassis/ sub frame mount points prevent it tearing it's self apart Are the M sport wheels for sale in photo 24. What brake set up did you use on the rear

No such thing "Reliable" this will depend on what it means to you. Richard has given you a link to follow and their are many more. This forum has some and a google search will reveal more ie Ultimate guide E39, motor review e46.

The four cylinder bm's as mentioned are nothing but trouble e46 e90 etc while the 6's are a slightly better option. The comments made by the two previous members should be a warning and more research needs to be done to get a clearer picture of what model will do what. If it is a daily driver you Whitby to the Hutt not a great distance to travel surely even a Honda, toyota, nissan would do it and for less cost per k and still take a trashing.

What size wheel and tyre does BMW recommend for your vehicle. Just consider the extra stress being placed on the suspension bushes and ball joints with the larger size wheel tyre combo.
-
Can confirm if they will bolt up but have a look in the parts catalogue might have trouble with cats etc on the later models.Although it does show they were used on a m54 330ci and i http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/11621706538/

Hi Matt, Reading your post glad to hear you have had it diagnosed by a professional and by the sound of it now have a better understanding of what is happening due to him explaining the slush box operation. At least the fluid change may / may not buy you some time to consider your next move this could be a auto rebuild. At around $3,450 that is a lot of money or have you considered what it would cost for a manual conversion. Best of luck with what ever you decide.

From the info you have provided either the water valve or the final stage unit could be on the way out.

Had a parcel from Pelican a while back the freight cost on that was around $60.00 NZ. It contained a sump gasket, two engine mounts, couple of breathe hoses, air filter, oil filter and a couple of other items. When i opened the carton was surprised at the amount of waste space. When I asked about this was informed that the cost was determined by the weight only not the carton size which i was very surprised about. Maybe something to check on with the company you deal with.

Any common problems with 318ti and N42 engine?
allan replied to NZ00Z3's topic in General Discussion
Hello Murray, N42 were to begin! a Pandora box use the search button feature on here to get a better idea, oil leaks, vacuum pump, cooling system, front window regulators, front suspension bushes just a few not only confined to the e46 compact -
Interesting idea Tom lol all the best.On a different scale i will admit is the M3 csl than the up grade i carried out from a stock basic 316ti to a Msport 325ti compact. Hope you have an interesting experience both mechanically and the electronics involved as I did. Best of luck.

Have a look at pelican they range from 35.00 odd to 144.00 US. As for the wiring looking ok that might be the case but my experience was two fold, heat had made things brittle and the wire had almost separated second due to oil which had managed to get in too the connector.
