Thanks, just out of curiosity I tried another lock and it will now unlock if you do it a second time, which it wouldn't before. Got to remember the ti only has got one lock that's in the drivers door.

Two things spring to mind,1. the "O" rings used to seal the radiator hoses they can become deformed also become hard. 2. A crack in the internal skin of the expansion tanks not common. Get the cooling system pressure tested when it is cold

Yes they are replaced and it costs you nothing if your vehicle falls in the time period. Their was another thread on here about it with quite a bit of info due to the numbers involved only so many vehicles could be done at one time. Last year I Inquired with the local dealer and they would not comment on it but some three months later got a letter to say could I organize a time for my vehicle to have it replaced.

BEST BMW EVER - Which BMW is the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'? |
allan replied to Golfboy666GTI's topic in Videos & Sound
A very biased look in my opinion an M1 and a M3 e30 what about all the other 100 or so odd models BM has made. Believe BMW gave that title to the e39 the ultimate driving machine . -
Be interested to see what he has to say about it also what the feed back through the steering wheel is like etc. Seems the driver is becoming more and more a passenger plus insulated from what the car is doing

Have some injectors for sale and wish to know what cc they deliver as I have no idea from a N42b18 engine?.

Have noticed when unlocking the drivers door either remotely or with the key the passengers door and hatch will not unlock. But if you press the trunk open switch it will allow it to be opened also by pressing the door lock/unlock button by the hazard switch or use the internal door handle it will open the door. Is this a dud door activator or a gm5 module fault and is their a way to isolate which one it is. The little research I've done replacing the door lock/activator could get messy help much appreciated.

If I'm looking at these diagrams correctly the 5hp19 has 5 wires and the GM5 has six. On the gm5 one is ge/bl yellow with blue circles possible your cut wire. Try looking in the link it will open and have complete vehicle, special, components and signal information. Click on the box and it will open a list click on A and look down for A7000 Transmission control unit click on that and another list will open number 10 and 11 are the one's you might find of interest. http://www.bmw-planet.net/diagrams/release/en/e46/index.htm

Looking at my notes that loom goes to your gear shift unit y8505. Have a look at what it connects onto at the other end as Andy mentioned need to know which type of auto box it has to determine which way it is wired up. Is every thing working in the end could just be a wire not used on your type of box and surplus.Had a further look around on bmw planet wiring diagrams and under A7000 transmission control unit found several versions the 11th one covering module 4 for a gm5 set up while the 10th covered 5hp and they are slightly different with coloured wires..

Arrival of the mechanically challenged
allan replied to GIantic010's topic in New Member Introductions
Hi Greg If your car is a 2001 it should have a world wide tuner fitted already to the radio. Bmw fitted these from 2000 on so run the last seven digits of your vin through a decoder and it should explain all. If not just purchase a later model radio please do not fit an ex-pander they will only make things worse the e39 stock system is not to bad over all. As for the darting etc as others have said start with a set of good tyres an all wheel alignment by someone that knows what they are doing and go from their. -

Need a bit more info Andy are they wall batts or ceiling should say on the wrapping? If wall batts should be no problem if ceiling might be wrong size and need to be cut plus protrude out passed the stud edge and course some problem if you are going to line that area later. The reason is the wall batts are generally sized to fit the stud spacing most homes are either 600 or 400 centres . The last time I fitted these the wall batt rating was 2.8 and ceiling 3.2 or greater I believe and at 2.8 one could start to feel some resistance the gib sheet was being fitted. To get the max out of the batts and your time in fitting them they need to be fitted neatly not compressed or loose in the spaces. Also does the garage have building paper or not?

This is a subject much debated on this forum 540 or 530 personnel I feel the 530 is a better all round package. Had a 530 for 5 and half years despite the faults it was a nice vehicle to drive in more so the open road than in the city. Look for a late 03 model with these being near the end of the series they had all the options fitted as standard. As for looks the vote for me is M sport it has a firm ride though so if not your thing go standard. The e39 has a number of faults these are some I can remember Oil leaks, sump, cam cover, "O" rings cam sensors, oil filter housing these are the common ones. The hose connections on the power steering reservoir and the crushed "o" ring on the dip stick lid Main drive belt system, mechanical type can chatter hydraulic a better option bearing noise on these pulleys also Crankcase vent system hoses can collapse and other issues. The normal weak cooling system, electrical connections to the thermostat and the thermostat itself, viscous fan, expansion tanks internally cracking Electrical the wiring in the flexible connector between boot and body wear through and brake coursing all sorts of funny things The common problem dropped out pixels in the cluster Rear tail light sealing gaskets these prevent water entering the boot as the drain channel from the boot pass over them. Battery located not to far away Rear door window switch's sometimes the guts in them fall apart Wet carpet apart from the very obverse sometimes a damaged, missing of miss fitted plastic door membrane Headlights if the rubber vent holes in these get blocked they can make the headlights start to fog up and once condensation is present it is very hard to remove. The only place I can thing of rust could be a problem is around the petrol tank filler neck it always had water their on the 530 I owned The pedal shimmy this is either wrapped discs or worn control arms or thrust arm bushes.

Hi Sean Have been told that e46 front seats will fit an e36 just a bit of filing required on the rear mounting holes might give one a large chance of finding something. Also have mixed and matched a pair of sedan m sport front seats with a compact and ended up with http://bimmersport.c.../51091-tim-325/ .
