I've previously used Darren McKillop from Auto-Car-Tel and was extremely happy with the valuation. Extremely thorough and has a great knowledge of cars in general. Based in Auckland. Their phone number is 09 576 1558

Is there a foam seal under that plastic cowling direct below the windscreen? It's common for the foam seal to deteriorate and water to leak into the cabin for a lot of other makes, not too sure about the e39 but worth a look? Similar to the foam seal in this thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1334705-DIY-Replacing-the-windshield-cowl

Yeah, used Redline MTL 75w80 too in my old E30. Shifts became noticeably smoother. If you can get it at trade price from bnt it's not bad at all

I had a similar problem recently with a turbo integra I had a few months ago. NAC initially valued it at $6000 but the guy on the phone was a gc and suggested getting it valuated by an independent valuer. I ended up going with Darren fron Auto-car-tel, he had a good look over the car and looked at the extensive amount of receipts that I had and valued it at $16k which I was extremely happy with. NAC happily agreed on the price after this. Valuation only costed around the $80 mark from memory

Davies motors (holden dealership in Manukau) sells them. They're a distributor of Nice products. Have a browse through the catalogue, they usually have everything in stock. http://davie.co.nz/?id=202
