    Please explain

If it was Eroad in his vehicle which is most likely for a council, then it is also most likely he would have a screen in the vehicle advising his driving behaviour. So he would be well aware of his f#$% up. Probably this product. https://www.eroad.co.nz/products/health-safety-eroad-drive-buddy/ It would also be in his contract for driving behaviour. Yeah I worked there. But Eroad is great for people driving vehicles that are not theirs. E.g. Work vehicles. Insurance can be heavily discounted fleet wide if Eroad is installed. Some companies even rewarded drivers with cash bonuses of those savings while I was there.
  2. With my cheap E87 130i came some codes. One of these being 2A99: Crankshaft - exhaust camshaft reference. This is nearly always the Vanos solenoid sticking or just being worn out. In my case it was a bit of both. Original solenoids most likely, even at 210,000kms. Very poor oil maintenance. I tried cleaning the factory ones a few times but eventually it would throw a code. The code always followed the one that was originally installed in the exhaust side. So I picked up 2 sets of cheap solenoids from spareto.com A Hella branded one @ 48.76eur each https://spareto.com/products/hella-control-valve-camshaft-adjustment/6nw-358-188-011 A Gates branded one @ 34.90eur each https://spareto.com/products/gates-control-valve-camshaft-adjustment/vvs177 The Gates one came in a generic white box with a small Gates sticker on it which put me off a bit. The Hella one came in a Hella colored yellow box that looked suspiciously cheap. Attempting to install the Hella one went wrong immediately. Due to the way it has been crimped it was slightly oversized. I removed the excess. It was still tight fitting. First drive had me turning back very quickly. A high pitched scream from the valve or Vanos (Lots of people refer to it as a Whistle, mine was a scream). Similar to a belt that was seriously slipping at higher RPM. This is actually a common fault for a failing Solenoid. Any load on the engine and there is no noise. Idle throttle and you will hear it. I had not opened the the Gates one yet but was surprised to find it resembled the BMW one far closer than the Hella one. The Hella one looked as well as it performed. sh*t. The Gates one has been in there for a few months now. Zero issues. Fitting was great. I am now curious as to how long the Gates ones will last. Apparently these are the factory ones without the BMW part number on them. https://spareto.com/products/pierburg-control-valve-camshaft-adjustment/7-06117-01-0 Conclusion: The Light company makes sh*t engine parts. The Belt company makes better ones. I will update when the Gates ones die. Some pictures.

Worked for Eroad in it's early days. Some heavy trucks would do that in a month. Also depends on how often that breach is logged. Usually every 1 min over is a new incident. By law you must be below the speed limit where the sign post is mounted. E.g. from a 80 zone to a 50 zone you must be below 50 before the sign post. Nobody does that. Most companies only cared about the top 10 to 20 % of beaches. Catching the drivers who a well over. I had the high score for Eroad staff for a while. Shame it was the poor kid from Firestone test driving my car. Got a free alignment though after I advised them. I would want to see his speed report. And if it is not a calibrated government approved device like Eroad then the data is irrelevant. I spent hours every day updating GIS data to set the correct speed limits. Only had to be 50m off and it would generate a speeding log.

    The irony

Ha love all the conspiracy theories. Reading all the comments on Reddit has been such a good laugh. Women bad!! Would we have been better off with the ex Chief of Navy whos nickname is Crash? I wonder why they called him that? Also all the Aussies laughing..... They clearly have forgotten when their Aircraft carrier ran over a frigate in peace time killing over 80 sailors.

    Sim Racing

Anyone still sim racing? I came across a good deal. Have space and a decent PC so I picked it up. It is slightly better than entry level gear. On a solid frame with a really comfy fully adjustable Mazda RX8 seat. As much as I am into gaming I have never had a sim setup. Probably because my race car was going and I use to do a lot more driving. It seems to be one of those things everyone plays for a few months then sells off when it starts gathering dust and taking up space. Will probably start with Assetto Corsa with a bunch of mods. Get some 90's BTCC going. Any other recomendations? Wheel and pedal set is a Thrustmaster T248 https://www.thrustmaster.com/products/t248/
  6. Yeah I don't see it in there at all either. But not a terrible looking car. It does.
  7. I don't mind these renders utilizing their prototype design language Neue Klasse. A remake of the Touring would get some enthusiasts keen. Won't interest most of us however. Unlikey to be able to work on these yourself. https://www.drivencarguide.co.nz/news/bmw-neue-klasse-touring-concept-design-brings-back-e30-looks/

    Dodgy Dealer

Are they rear camber arms? This gen of AMGs loves to chew out the insides of the rear tyre's. Like I get less than 10k kms out of a pair. So it is quite common for people to change to adjustable arms to try solve the issue. Just replace them with stock arms and get an eccentric bolt kit to allow some camber adjustment. As for the dealer. They should be paying for that work. If they don't then make a complaint. https://motortraders.mbie.govt.nz/for-consumers/getting-help-or-making-a-complaint/
  9. I need stuff brought down too. Was going to ask someone in the BMW race series to bring them to Manfeild on the 18th. Not sure who is going to the round yet.
  10. Trade me questions < Facebook Marketplace Questions And that says a lot.
  11. Firm supporter of powder coating in the engine bay. I coated my rocker covers in my race cars and I don't think I ever had a scratch or chip. And they were off and on regularly. I actually coated my cast exhaust manifold with a ceramic coating. Looked great. Never failed. Actually think it reduced heat.
  12. I would actually say you are better off buying one that is aesthetically pleasing to you. Then doing all the basics early even if they may have been done before. Gaskets Water Pump + Hoses Full fluids service Brakes Suspension including all bushes Vanos control Cam Position sensors Make that part of your budget. You might get lucky as on a very rare occasion NZ owners keep receipts of the work done. Most of that stuff above is actually pretty well priced. Places like spareto.com have many options from BMW genuine to brands you thought made washing machines.
  13. Anyone dealt with replacing the vanos bolts? I didn't know they were an issue until recently. Wish I had known while I had the rocker cover off. Though it's not a major to remove it again. Also working on this shitbox is a Rollercoaster. Found the fuel vent sensor was not connected.. Though reconnecting it still gives the same code so it needs replacing. Replaced my exhaust vanos control valve which actually made my issue worse. But I didn't test the new Hella branded one and I think that's my problem. Or the vanos bolts. Changed to the Style 386. Not great looking. But better than stock. Neglected 130s are fun.
  14. "Some drip marks on the back seat leather that I haven’t gotten around to cleaning off" Ummm. Also the clear coat coming off means she's probably had a frontal.
  15. I always buy a couple at this price as I have 3 cars that use it. Two cars that take 6+ltrs and one that takes 8.5ltrs. You go through it quick.
  16. Yeah nice.
  17. Oh nowhere near as bad as I thought. I should get it done. As a can almost guarantee it will decide to fall down on me half way when I least want it to.
  18. What's a job like that worth? My black 130 of course has this issue. Held up with push tacks. Also need to recover the steering wheel. Though this car may just end up being stripped out at some stage depending if the wife enjoys it on track.
  19. I picked up some cheap Style 386 on the weekend. They look like this. Okay I guess. Better size than the 207's. 225/40 and 245/35 which is the same as my white 130 on style 269's.
  20. If you are doing it yourself find the gear in the US. You may need to join the East/West Coast BMW parts pages. I was seeing manual swaps or whole cars being stripped every other day over there. Though the boxes have become popular for LS swaps.

    Quick rant thread.

Costco tyre shop hours. Opening Hours Mon-Fri 10:00am - 8:30pm Sat 9:30am - 6:30pm Sun 10:00am - 6:00pm I can't even get any shop down here to do anything after 2pm. Let alone on a Sunday... I miss Costco.

    Quick rant thread.

Would like to buy Michelins. But the Merc eats them way too quick when towing. So I just run Hankook's. I like Hyper as I didn't have to deal with a human trying to convince me into buying Farroads for my E55 at the local tyre shop for a good price of $350 per tyre...

    Quick rant thread.

Tyre prices. What happened to the good sales? Most I am seeing is 25% off. Even Hyperdrive the Briscoes of the Tyre world has crap deals now. A brand that I was buying is now at least 25% more for a set. That is a rough increase.

    ECU Rust

Will have a hunt for it. Was a while back. But was pretty cool. Once you learn what to ask copilot it writes pretty good stuff. As long as it is not too crazy.
  25. I still hold onto the only reason E30's, S13's, R32's etc were good was because they were cheap. Sorry to those that missed those 20 odd years.
