    Shed fit outs

Nice tips and ideas Olaf. I initially wanted a barn style shed. However one of the only covenants on our property is that the structures stay single story. Even with a 3m stud I am going to have to get them to approve it. I found out yesterday going from 2.4m stud to 3m is a very minimal increase in cost. Security will be high. I have no windows or ranch sliders. The shed won't be visible from the road. I will still be installing a high end security camera system and physical barriers for the vehicles. I am currently planning to install solar on the roof of the shed. As it needs to be engineered for it I am going to plan that now and install at a later date. It will be included in my engineering for high wind zone. No extra cost. I'm going to get two mates who are commercial electricians to come and fit out the place. Staging will be a must. I want to put the Compressor outside in its own sound proofed box. And it's a good idea about the flammable stuff.

They have a pretty good name down here which is good. Making sure it's a local and not someone over from Wellington.

So I had my arm twisted by many people, including those on Bimmersport. I have increased the stud to 3m. And the bay width to 4m. To accommodate a 2 post hoist. They will also have a thicker band of concrete running through the middle where the hoist mounts. It will now be 12m x 7.5m by Totalspan. I'm going to put that resin type product on the two car bays and garage carpet the workshop bay. Line it with ply. Then will let my sparky mates come and overkill the power and lighting. Looking forward to it. This is the hoist. A mate has one and said it is great. I was worried it would fall into the cheap China junk category but the company backs them. https://www.automaster.co.nz/products/peak-2-post-base-plate-car-hoist
  4. Said it before. Glad I got to play with these when they were cheap.
  5. Have you driven one? Whilst they have a mediocre amount of power. The engine doesn't feel like it was made by BMW at all. It just drives so weird. Soulless. Like a modern Mazda.
  6. It could get worse. Like so bad that nobody behind you could see. In around 1 min my old E46 filled a 30 car under ground car park with thick white smoke. Could hardly see your hand in front of you. You can stop it from working if you cause a vacumn leak. I was actually fixing a vacuum leak when I discovered mine had failed. I am thinking someone did this to hide that it was failed when they sold the car to me.
  7. Yup. It will be. I filled an entire underground garage with white smoke when I reconnected a failed one.
  8. Same interior as mine.

Cheers for the ideas. It's unlikely I will go with a hoist. I could pop around the corner to use a mates one 100s of times before I could justify the cost. The most I can increase my height to before the cost starts getting silly is 2.9m. I'm not sure if I will carpet the whole thing. Maybe coat the two bays and carpet the workshop area. I can line the shed with ply for nothing as the father in law works for a mill. Good idea about the compressor having a soundproof box. Good time to upgrade it too. Was thinking of keeping it outside and running lines throughout the shed. Power is going to be sorted by some mates who are commercial electricians. Will sort me out with LED lighting and plenty of power. Lack of power points drives me mad so will get plenty. At the moment the two doors will be manual. I will install auto motors at a later date. As the cars that will be in there are not frequently used. Lots to think about. Makes me wish I had brought more tools back with me from the US.
  10. That's a real shame. Unlikely to see one in NZ again.

Nah not worth the extra cost. To increase the height in a high wind zone + hoist that is not a Chinese death machine is another $10K minimum. I just wouldn't use it. Plus I have the use of a hoist in the area.

Looking for tips and ideas to fit out a shed. What have you done to yours or for someone else to make it more functional, comfortable, awesome? Looking at flooring options. Work bench and storage options/tips. Did you line it? What sort of lighting did you put in? Did you put water in? Security features? Wheel racks? My garage will be around 10.5 x 7.5. 3 Bays. 2 x Car and 1 x Wshop. I'm only going 2.4 stud as i'm not putting in a hoist (prob just quick jacks).
  13. I can see it going for nearly full market price. Where as in the US it would go for a good 20-25% less than market as it has been crashed. I do wish NZ had a system like Carfax. Whilst it has it's flaws it works well for service history/recalls/write offs.
  14. Gerry is a great guy. His Alpina B7 Turbo is jaw dropping. Not sure if he still has it. Was green.
  15. I also came from Nissans. But 16 years ago. Also have a 130i as a daily. It's been awesome over the last year. Not one issue. Also sadly still have a Nissan money pit. But the great thing is I also own a BMW money pit now too.
  16. You have to be careful with Simmons too. A mate was able to recover his stolen ones from someone who had purchased them for his show car. They were hot property 20 years ago. You hardly ever found a set for sale that wasn't stolen. Especially in 4 x 100.
  17. It's not a good time to buy. NZD is utter trash at the moment. Don't forget to add GST, Shipping, Shipping Insurance to the cost. The Agent will also have a cost. Transport from the Warf to the compliance center or your house. Tow trucks are usually not allowed. It will need to be a car transport company. Avoid anything with previous crash damage. NZ Standards are much higher when complying a vehicle, I have had to re-do entire quarter cuts that were not done correctly and were not discovered upon initial inspection. Just like a car auction in NZ people in Japan try to flog off their junk. And they will try and hide it. Trust no one. An NZ agent will look after all this for you. And some offer protection for unseen issues. And a few years ago there were so many agents out there the margins were small.
  18. I wouldn't pick ether to learn how to drift in. Committed drifting will always end in the car being damaged in some way. From Minor to Major a newer BMW like you have suggested is not a cheap fix. You would be better off learning in an old E36 with low HP. Learn car control before moving onto something powerful. If you can make some old junk you don't care about Drift well you will be better off. It would quite honestly be cheaper for you to fly to Japan and go to one of the Drift schools than it would be to even set up an M3 to drift well and reliably. As for track day driving. Both would be great fun.
  19. Reminds me of my old E39. Very low KM's. But also very well used. Odo had clearly been tampered with. E39s have a tamper dot that turns on if the cluster doesn't match. Does the E46?
  20. With the race series cars it is all about what cars are proven high performers. I got good money for my series car but only because I put it near the front. Otherwise there were far better presented E30's out there going for much less.
  21. Dan Slater and Slater fabrication would be able to make you up something no problem. He was the one that built the E34 M30 Turbo race car a while back which was amazing. Mines only the E34 M30 Turbo race car that is incomplete and sits in a shed.
  22. 4 door E30 and E36 3 series annoy me. They have less room than the 2 door for the rear seat passengers. And the rear seat passengers sit higher. More noticeable in the E30's
  23. Oh it's a 4 door... No thanks. Also I just wonder how the de-badging was done. Did they just poo up the indents with filler? One can only wonder.
  24. If I was going to do a swap on my old E30 Tech 1 it would have been an N52. Amazing motor. Tons of them around (Every 330 and 130). And with the horrible covers off, a loom tuck and some paint they don't look too bad. One of these and a ITB conversion would be awesome.
  25. Ernst at Bavarian Motors in the Wairau Valley would be a good man to have a chat to. He deals with a lot of older BMW's in this condition. Could help you revive it and source parts.
