    Quick rant thread.

Been waiting a month to get the 130 to BMW for a recall notice they issued. There is a snow warning on the Remutaka's in effect until midday tomorrow so we rang to re-book. Next appointment. 4th of August. Is Winger BMW really that busy? Or are they just fobbing off recall customers.

    Ubiquiti UniFi

Cheers guys. I will have to have a hunt around for some info on the dropping of features etc. Especially around the security stuff. The home will have some smart devices. Especially the heat pump. Remote access to these devices is a must. I house sat a few months back and the house had a Smart Kettle. I laughed and thought why would you. But asking it to turn on from bed was fun. And smart bulbs are handy. The sharing of information is my only concern. There is ways to block all that I guess.

    Ubiquiti UniFi

So I have been looking at options for home network and security. I'm in the position where I want to start from scratch removing all my old random gear of various brands and moving to one well reviewed system. Ubiquiti so far seems to have everything I want. Especially integration of systems, remote management, a UI anyone can use. And the security software and hardware is not a stupid amount of money and doesn't need a subscription service. I'm looking at a WiFi 6 mesh system (maybe overkill) Cloud Key Gen2 POE 4K Cameras and supporting swtiches Only the cameras will be run via Ethernet (POE). All other devices will be run on the low latency WiFi. It all looks great on paper. But I am wondering if anyone has a system, thought about getting a system. Or is running UI stuff in their workplace? Or maybe you are running something else? Cloud Key Gen2 https://unifi-protect.ui.com/cloud-key-gen2 4k Cameras, https://www.ui.com/unifi-video/unifi-video-camera-g4-pro/ AmpliFi Mesh system (Not the WiFi 6 version) https://amplifi.com/gamers-edition WiFI 6 version - The only thing not at a reasonable price. https://store.amplifi.com/products/amplifi-alien-router-mesh
  5. Whites the best colour for them.
  6. Another update and a surprise. Went to fill up the diesel truck at Gull today. Whilst standing there holding the broken trigger lock on the pump handle I noticed a sign where there is usually an ad. I filled up the 1 series there the day it started running really bad. Worse than it already was due to the valvetronic. I don't think the 95 fuel is at fault. But I think it probably compounded the issue. Parts should be here this week from ECS. Will find some time in the dark to install them.
  7. E87s are great and I'm glad I got one over an equivalent E90. That's all I have to say.
  8. Update. It dropped a cylinder yesterday completely. No. 3 coil pack died. Luckily I was 1km around the corner from a wrecker that had one. Still running like crap with the same code for the valvetronic motor. Ordered a new motor and gasket kit. 6 new coil packs. And a rocker cover gasket from ECS tuning. All for less than what bmw wanted for just the motor.
  9. I got 5w30 Edge for 50% off last year. Usually use Elf oils. But nobody sells it down here. At a reasonable price that is. Like everything in NZ....
  10. I'm going with Totalspan. 12x7.5x3. They were the most competitive in the area. Don't forget you may need wind zone strengthening. But your talking factory rather than shed. That's huge.
  11. The sliding door opens right into the carpark haha. Yeah Olaf that is a 535is manual from the UK. My cars red twin. It's in average condition. I thought about leaving a note to buy it.
  12. This Hotel room that opens directly into a carpark building is by far not the worst I've stayed in. Spotted a Red E30 too.
  13. You could get a regrind done. Place in Pukekohe Franklin Cams could do it. But TBH I think you are better off getting something from VAC.
  14. Is this actually a good deal though? Don't they often do 50% off Castrol 5w30. Though I am currently due for a service.
  15. Got back exactly 1 year ago. Slowly getting back into NZ life.
  16. Coming back to NZ Andy?
  17. I still feel like the very short cold trips are fowling her up though. It can't be good for it.
  18. The more I look into that fault the more I think it is rectified by a software update. The car is going into BMW for a recall item soon anyway. Got sent a letter about a 90 deg bend in the heating system that is being replaced. Will see if there is a software update at the same time.
  19. Oh I think you got it Chris. There is a code. 2A43 - Valvetronic Thermal Overload. Will have a look next chance I get. Also downloading ISTA+ rather than old INPA that is half German still.
  20. Update: So this issue as discussed ended up having nothing to do with a Misfire. It was a quick shudder from the torque converter that can feel just like a misfire. The confusion came about as multiple issues happened at the same time. The valvetronic motor needed replacing and a coil pack died. The main issue is a shudder caused by the GM made torque converter. A common failure in all vehicles that use this gearbox. Usually occurs when the gearbox fluid is old or low. The fix: A transmission service. Filled it correctly (took two litres more than came out and is the correct amount). And an additive from Lubegaurd call anti shudder. I have had no further issues in the 1000km I have tested. My first issue with my E87. Strangely I am not angry about it. Car's been so good that I have had nothing to do on it. So on Saturday during a trip to Napier I noticed a short vibration under load at lower RPM (2500 to 4000). Vibration would only last a second then it was gone. At first I thought it was something mechanical like a gearbox issue or driveshaft donunt. But the issue is intermittent. And I noticed a little loss of power when it is occurring. So it has to be a misfire of some type. I quick google and it seems pretty common especially for cars doing short trips in the cold. Well I am doing the shortest of trips in the cold. Less than 2km's per trip and it's been in the negatives over the last week. The annoying thing is I am getting no codes. So if it is a plug, coil pack or injector I have no idea which one. Does anyone have any tips on hunting them down. I have tried two of my cheap scan tools with no luck. Will plug the laptop in and check too. I have heard these engines are sensitive to what plug is installed. And the Brits keep talking about injector recalls which I can find nothing about in NZ.

    Quick rant thread.

Some muppet just paid $50K usd for a sh*t old Civic. An absolutely lackluster non Type R yawn machine. So if fools are collecting Nana's Civic. Great Grandma's beige 320i Auto 4 door poverty edition is worth big bucks right?

    New 4 series

I didn't like the last generation of Lexus due to their over sized grill with much of it being fake. Don't like this one either. But it's designed for China not the enthusiast.

    Quick rant thread.

Came here to say some prick opened his door onto mine and dented the door. But seeing that picture ouch. I was in my car and parked right on the far edge of the last carpark in the row. Prick still parked crooked and over the line. I'm going to try make him pay for paint less dent removal. Wankers a regular at the train station.
  24. Yup but NZ'ers have had it hammered into them that low KM's are better. Some of the time they are. But not always. But I see that 12 year old car as a City traffic Crawler. When i was looking for an E60 530d years ago I jumped on one that had done over 100,000KM's (OMG ITS REACH 100K IT'S GOING TO BLOW UP - Most NZer's probably). It was a NZ New South Island car. It felt new. And I didn't have any issues with it the entire time I owned it. Amazing car. I think it had done 180,000 when I sold it. Still felt and looked new.
  25. You enjoy this torture you put yourself through don't you.
