You have to be careful with Simmons too. A mate was able to recover his stolen ones from someone who had purchased them for his show car. They were hot property 20 years ago. You hardly ever found a set for sale that wasn't stolen. Especially in 4 x 100.

It's not a good time to buy. NZD is utter trash at the moment. Don't forget to add GST, Shipping, Shipping Insurance to the cost. The Agent will also have a cost. Transport from the Warf to the compliance center or your house. Tow trucks are usually not allowed. It will need to be a car transport company. Avoid anything with previous crash damage. NZ Standards are much higher when complying a vehicle, I have had to re-do entire quarter cuts that were not done correctly and were not discovered upon initial inspection. Just like a car auction in NZ people in Japan try to flog off their junk. And they will try and hide it. Trust no one. An NZ agent will look after all this for you. And some offer protection for unseen issues. And a few years ago there were so many agents out there the margins were small.

M3 f80 or 135i with mods for a fun street and track car ?
Driftit replied to sean24's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't pick ether to learn how to drift in. Committed drifting will always end in the car being damaged in some way. From Minor to Major a newer BMW like you have suggested is not a cheap fix. You would be better off learning in an old E36 with low HP. Learn car control before moving onto something powerful. If you can make some old junk you don't care about Drift well you will be better off. It would quite honestly be cheaper for you to fly to Japan and go to one of the Drift schools than it would be to even set up an M3 to drift well and reliably. As for track day driving. Both would be great fun. -
Reminds me of my old E39. Very low KM's. But also very well used. Odo had clearly been tampered with. E39s have a tamper dot that turns on if the cluster doesn't match. Does the E46?

e30 318is RS (Race Sport) Replica Road/Race?
Driftit replied to beemwr's topic in General Discussion
With the race series cars it is all about what cars are proven high performers. I got good money for my series car but only because I put it near the front. Otherwise there were far better presented E30's out there going for much less. -
Dan Slater and Slater fabrication would be able to make you up something no problem. He was the one that built the E34 M30 Turbo race car a while back which was amazing. Mines only the E34 M30 Turbo race car that is incomplete and sits in a shed.

4 door E30 and E36 3 series annoy me. They have less room than the 2 door for the rear seat passengers. And the rear seat passengers sit higher. More noticeable in the E30's
-
Oh it's a 4 door... No thanks. Also I just wonder how the de-badging was done. Did they just poo up the indents with filler? One can only wonder.

If I was going to do a swap on my old E30 Tech 1 it would have been an N52. Amazing motor. Tons of them around (Every 330 and 130). And with the horrible covers off, a loom tuck and some paint they don't look too bad. One of these and a ITB conversion would be awesome.

Ernst at Bavarian Motors in the Wairau Valley would be a good man to have a chat to. He deals with a lot of older BMW's in this condition. Could help you revive it and source parts.
-
Last I saw webbers show up they were close to 3K. And would need extensive time on the dyno to dial in. But the sound! Could look at the indvidual system off the S50/52. Whilst silly expensive here they are pretty cheap in the US. What are you planning to drop this into BTW?
-
The other option would be going to individual throttle bodies. The intake on the M30 is not great, in both looks and performance.
-
TBH with the cost of head work I would be looking at trying to source an S38. I saw a couple go in the US for around 7K USD. I looked at playing with the M30 to get more power out of it. The answer was always forced induction. I'm running an old MAP ECU 2 piggyback on mine. It made some good gains with some headers and a AFM delete.

Also watched the series For All Man Kind. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7772588/ I thought it was pretty good. It's based off an alternate reality where the Russians made it to the Moon first. It's pretty well done.

Youtube recommended videos is on fire today for me. So cool. And crack up how Audi had to use a V8 to beat the little 4 bangers of the EVO's from BMW and Merc The music is also amazing....if you are into 70's porn soundtracks Also a young M Schumacher driving for Merc Zakspeed Team

Look at replacing the oil pump shaft to one with a bolt rather than a nut. The nuts fall off destroying the motor. https://store.vacmotorsports.com/mobile/vac-oil-pump-upgrade-kit-bmw-m50m52uss50s52us-p1041.aspx Though I think these doubled in price since I purchased it. Another thing to look at is cnc'd rockers and retaining clamps rather than springs. Especially if you will be revving her out. VAC do sump baffles too. I have a crank scraper but it took 5 months to arrive and needed lots of work to fit it. Not worth it imo.
-
Can you throw some prices and pictures up as per forum rules. Cheers.

Yeah it's an 8k car. And I don't think drift tax comes into play. Drift tax is for cars that are already capable drift cars. I can't believe I never had one of S13s stolen. I left them all over the place. No alarms. One sat in an unsecure underground carpark in the viaduct for 2 years with hardly any use. Not touched. Do wish I had kept one though. But I used the money to get into E30 racing. No regrats.
-
It's actually a good motor. Doesn't need a lot of money to leave all but M BMW's for dead. Mrs made 270rwkw with hers. They are all top end though. Classic late 80's boost lag.
-
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/nissan/listing/2504211407 The crazy prices continue. If this sells I think I might see if the Mrs wants to hold onto hers for a few more years. Its funny though. I still see a 8k car there. I just wouldn't get 28k worth of enjoyment out of it. A stock S13 is not a very good car.

Altered Carbon is a good watch. Very Bladerunnerish. Went back and watched True Detective series 1. Quite enjoyable and gritty. And not the usual scenes of NYC or LA. They portrait some of the south very well. Been watching many YouTube videos of Americans getting hold of mid 90s Jap sports cars that were previously illegal to import. Quite funny that they are doing the same sh*t we were doing 25 years ago. And thinking they are the first to do it...

Haha my kid neighbors showed this to me the other day. They play a lot of minecraft and know I listen to a lot of metal (Attempting to influence them into metal) Many bands are streaming live concerts btw. Been watching quite a few. Also been watching some of the V8 Supercars drivers stream iRacing comps. Indy eSeries was good. V8's start soon. Watched the Tiger King on netflix. Now that is some serious train crash tv. We have like 3 plex servers running. One is about 65tb. They are all automated and the extended family is just hammering them and loving it. Also playing Motorsport Manager whilst I work.

I'm too tight to buy anything overseas with the absolute crap NZD at the moment. Will wait for all the other economies to start to suffer first.
-
Hey mate. There used to be a good guide on the forum. Now I can't seem to find it. I followed it around 10 or so years ago for my E30 series car. Otherwise a LHD one will be fine. Only thing that differs is the reservoir for the clutch. Which is really straight forward. One thing that is different between autos and manuals that catches many out is the spigot bearing that goes in the end of the crank and aligns the gearbox shaft. Autos don't have it. Manuals need it. Everything else is very bolt in/on if you have a complete conversion kit.

Not going to modernise it? Friend of mine is just finishing off his 2 owner 69 Camaro with a 600hp LS3 from a Pontiac G8 (Holden). Huge amount of work done in the US while we were at the Embassy. Car might already be back in NZ. Nelson based.
