I got a full set of titanium replacements from ECS tuning, very happy with them, if you want my original ones you can have them, but they are very rusty.
-
They tow very well, I usually use manual mode or turn the SMG up to a more aggressive setting so it's not riding the clutch as much, and of course put it in P500 to compensate for the extra weight,!! 😉
-
Seems like a reasonable price, check those receipts for a clutch, it's 5k and if it hasn't been done it will need doing soon, I assume it's a UK import like mine so a good underbody check is sensible and don't buy it if the purchase price is your total budget, these still have supercar running costs, but.... If it is what will make you smile then that's got to be worth something right,!!

yes a faulty regulator could possibly cause a battery drain, depending on how it has failed, you also need to consider whether the faulty regulator killed the battery, or did a knackered battery kill the regulator?

I've left mine in so far, BMW put it there for a reason and its not that hard to keep it working.
-
Does it have an egr system still in it? If so, there should be a thermostat that controls it which can give up, might be worth doing .
-
Hmm, I take mine to Whangarei regularly, I should probably expect to get pulled over for the same reason!!

The numbers in the middle column are what they are aiming for, first number is the perfect number, second is the acceptable range either side of perfect. Green means it is within that range, red means it is not. I can't tell you if those numbers are "normal" for your car, but they are outside the manufacturers recommended range!

Basic question of SMG II gearbox parking

it would be sacrilegious to convert a manual box to an SMG imho! -

Yeah, SMG 2 was a modified manual box, 3 was designed to be SMG from scratch so a different story, manual M5/6 just had a 6 speed box not a manualised SMG 7 speed. -

Most of the stuff that goes wrong is on the outside of the box, pump, accumulator, sensors etc, internals are basically a 7 speed manual (SMG 3) with proper maintenance should outlast the rod bearings easily!! -
Basic question of SMG II gearbox parking

nope, uses hydraulic pressure and the pump is electric, it will engage with the key off. I don't think it will disengage unless the brakes are on if the engine is off, but not 100% sure. -

When you move it into gear you can hear the clutch engaging, its quite a clever piece of kit! -

SMG doesn't have a Park option, its in a gear, or its out of gear ( neutral) its a manual gearbox. -
All Castrol, all the time!
-
Yeah the bonnet latches on these are not the best, the top parts are held in with plastic rivets, mine closes fine on the passenger side but I always have to push the driver's side down to latch it!
-
Ok, mine has never gone above 100 but it spends all of its time on 100 now, I might plug in my OBD bluetooth dongle and get the temps up on torque pro next time I do a long trip.
-
Hey just to calm my paranoia since I changed my thermostat, where did your oil temp sit on the trip back up? Mine used to sit just below 100, but since the new thermostat went in it sits bang on 100 and I don't know if that's where it should be.

Are you bringing it to the meet on Sunday? Will be a first having 2 of them there!!

How much for the small case lsd?
-
WOF time, soooo, 2 new front bumps stops, 2 new washer fluid pumps, 1 new brake light bulb and a handbrake "adjustment" later... new WOF! Still driving it with MAF unplugged, research leads me to believe that there is a software update to suit the newer version of the MAF sensor, so will look into that a bit further.

Welcome to the club!!

Just a heads up for the return trip, the M5 needs 98 octane and only has a 65 litre tank, so fill it every time you see a BP with blue nozzles at the pumps!!

Need to be 4 x 100.
