BMW 530i Series 5 1994 V8 + 6 Speed Manual ( RARE AS ! )
aja540i replied to kiwi328i's topic in TradeMe discussions
I need to find out what mods he did to get 40 more hp, so i can do it to mine. Also i think mine might have one of the 200 getrag racing 6 speed gearboxes! Bonus, my car is worth WAY more than i thought! -
Is this the one described in your profile as 'e36 325i money pit'

M10 will have different shifter links and mounts, and possibly a different driveshaft and slave cylinder, best to get the right kit if you can.

If it works perfectly for 10+ years and 100xxx km, and then requires some maintainance, is it really a flawed design? How long was the warranty on a brand new e39? BMW is a business and has to make money like any other business, at least they still support their older models unlike most japanese and some other euro brands.

I think it was prbably a necessary evil to facilitate the vanos? I had mine all done at about 280k, its a big job but worth it for peace of mind.

Single vs Dual stage airbag for E39
aja540i replied to dkonsta1's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Check the colour of the airbag plug, i believe the older ones are an orange plug and the newer ones are yellow (might be the other way around) they are NOT interchangeable. -
best places to get parts for early e21/2002 in new zealand?
aja540i replied to jdamm's topic in General Discussion
Ive gotten a lot of my e21 stuff from Gavin at Euro Italian, but they are getting harder to get, some stuff will be dealer only, but ebay uk still has a lot of stuff. Good luck -
You really need to get the complete headlight assemblies to get the full benefit from hid bulbs. Hid bulbs produce light differently to normal bulbs and the reflectors are shaped differently to allow for this, if you just use the plastic adaptors in a normal housing you might be disapointed, also check the law, i know they are illegal in NZ.

Might be a bit of a mission going plastic windows without frames, any ideas how you might do it?

Its actually an e36 wheel WITH airbag, it has a totally self contained airbag, all the sensors etc are in the steering wheel, i had one in my 318is but the light kept coming on so i binned it for a non airbag motorsport wheel. I would pay $50 for it if the airbag is ok.

Cant say anything about that particular one, but i bought an ebay special and i would have had more fun taking the money outside and setting fire to it! Car basically didnt run with the new chip and seller wasnt interested in helping, " must have damaged it while installing it" bullsh17.

Put a trickle charger on the battery and do an oil change so it has nice new oil sitting in it.

E46 manual for $1 dollar reserve. 2.8 litre
aja540i replied to BMTHUG's topic in TradeMe discussions
Not saying theres anything wrong with it but if you are going to do it, why not do it properly and save yourself a possible insurance nightmare later on? -

Pretty sure that needs to be certed for the engine swap, if the power increased by 25 percent. If it didnt it was a waste of an engine swap! -
Pick a part?

Just out of curiosity, how many illegal immigrants would you fit in there?
-
Could be worse, could be an M62!
-
Not sure what he thinks is JDM about it either, maybe its a jap import, but you cant tell by looking at it! Wheres the sticker bomb and the huge bozo exhaust or the hideous clear taillights with water in them?
-
Or you could buy my 2.0L M10, in the e21 i think they were only about 8.5:1 as standard.
-
Could be one or both of the heater valve solenoids clicking open and closed, they would do that under certain conditions.
-
I dont know a lot about the e38, but if its similar to e39 then the 6 cylinder will be quite different to the v8/12 models, possibly have to swap the whole front subframe, steering, suspension, brakes, etc. Plus it will need certing, so you want to use all factory parts if you can!

'Always run on 91' WTF? How is that a selling point?

I have a small electric oil pump that i got when i did the 540 trans some years ago, it has only had new trans fluid in it, you are welcome to borrow it if you want.

'98 e39 535i - upgrade from factory sounds
aja540i replied to EdwardReynolds's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Yeah, the unit i got just has 1 wire that taps into the bus wire from the original loom, and plugs into the headunit, (plus 2 power wires) it takes about 1 minute to program and everything works, if you have the phone button on your wheel it even uses that. -

I have gone full aftermarket in my 540 and there are a few issues, you might just have to kiss the phone goodbye, and if you are not carefull you will loose the trip computer. I managed to get a sony single din behind the fold down flap above the computer, its a bit of work but i think its worth it, i now have bluetooth phone and music streaming, and can use a nav app on my phone and hear through the stereo. I installed a unit that keeps the steering wheel controls, you just need a headunit with a plug for a wired remote, and the unit from trademe. I also upgraded the factory speakers to jvc, but kept the tweeters. Mine is a touring so the sub is slightly different but it was a dual voice coil 5" driver in a plastic box, i replaced with a pioneer 8" all in one that fits in the original spot and it is a huge improvement. The wiring is the biggest headache as all the wires go from the headunit, back to the amp, then out to all the speakers, and there will be extra wires to the fronts for the phone. Good luck, its worth the effort.
