  1. I did mine with araldite epoxy and they have lasted a couple of years so far. You need to scuff it with some 80 grit sandpaper, put heaps of glue on and leave it a week before you put them back in, but it works, i can't remember but i might have even put some fibreglass in there for good luck! It just means you have to drive around with no door cards for a while so dont park anywhere dodgy!
  2. http://www.trademe.co.nz/building-renovation/tools/power-tools/cutters-shears-nibblers/auction-939211031.htm Or go to briscoes and get the cheapest electric knife they have, i got ont to cut some foam to re shape a seat and it worked mint!
  3. I replaced the factory radio in my e39 with a 1 din sony bluetooth/cd/ipod headunit, obviously the placement isnt the same, but i found on TM an adaptor that conne ted to the steering wheel button input wire and controls the headunit. You have to make sure you get a headunit that has the plug for a wired remote/ steering wheel control on the back, but mine set itself up once it was installed and it works perfectly. The bonus with going this way is you can use the GPS on your phone and get the directions through the stereo as well. Good luck.
  4. I think you might have more luck if you slap some BMW badges on it Martin!

Cheers for the comments, the same yard had a sedan in silverstone 2 but it didnt cause a stirring in the loins like the wagon did!

Finally found a suitable replacement for the e39 540 wagon!
  7. We send quite a bit of stuff to Chch using PBT, usually goes overnight, as above chucking it on a pallet will help, cost will be based on cubic meters so pack it as small as possible.
  8. +1, a quick look on fuelly.com says any less than 15 /100km would be great, mine is sitting about 18, but keen to see what a long drive does for it!
  9. Pulled the back seat out of it last night to clean it and found 2 marbles (someone has lost theirs) and $1.20! Score.
  10. Terrible photo but you get the idea.
  11. Does that mean i have to wash it?
  12. Each to their own, but i would rather spend a bit of money and know my car will do what i need it to do, plus i like the idea of saving something from the scrap metal heap. Financially speaking it may not be the best option, but like Glen said you could save a bit if you d.i.y it.
  13. Bring yourself to the next meet and ill take you for a ride, see if i can make you fall asleep!
  14. On the e39 there are shims under the trigger sensor that you may have to change to get the right gap between the sensor and the trigger wheel/ flywheel, your bentley manual should mention it if it needs to be right.
  15. Sedan bumper is different sorry, it will probably work out cheaper to get one locally and paint it than ship one that far. I sold an e39 front bumper to someone in the deep south and freight was around $400!
  16. I did mine at about 280000 km when the oil seperator failed, i took the motor out and delivered it to the workshop, timing chain, guides, tensioner, gaskets, etc plus they checked the bearings etc while they were in there. All up i spent just over $7000 but i havent had to touch the motor apart from services, for over 20000km now and it runs beautifully. Bavarian motors on the shore did the work.
  17. I would have thought that the policy would cost more than the car is worth on an older euro? Keep in mind the servicing requirements will probably be ridiculous too. I had an auto sure policy on my VR4 and they seemed reasonable to deal with but it wasnt cheap.
  18. Bollocks, you love replacing HVAC components !
  19. Just saw the movie, that poor car, also evidently no side airbags in the new model ! Almost seems unbelieveable
