  1. You will want to do some carefull measuring before you shorten your slave cylinder piston, if that is still your plan, you dont want to make it too short and not be able to fully disengage the clutch. My car has had this conversion also, but i am unsure exactly what master/ slave/ release bearing combo it ended up with, so i can't help much unfortunately. Good luck.
  2. Neither will be particularly fast, so you might as well get the cheapest one, if you get the 320i you can look at an engine swap later, a 318is would be a good start but they are a bit harder to find, and a bit more involved if you want to swap engines later on. If you can find a 325/328 for small money that would be even better. Have fun.
  3. My boss got these to stick on his kids when they went to disneyland
  4. Smith and smith did mine a few years ago, the first one they got was wrong, they tried to tell me it didnt matter, i made them order the right one, took another week to arrive, then the trim they used around the sides all started crapping out about a year after they did it! I would definately get a price from a dealer, although they probably just get someone in to do the install anyway. Sucks that it was some scumbag who gets away with it and it wont be cheap to fix!

  6. Mine has the opposite problem, if i try to start it before the steering wheel has finished moving down it just cranks and wont start, if i wait until the wheel is all the way down it starts first pop every time! Gotta love 16 year old electrics imagine how bad it would be if it was Italian!
  7. I have an e21 that is a rolling chassis at the moment, have an M10b16 i am going to throw in and put it back on the road, but willing to sell as is if wanted.
  8. I did mine a few years ago, the struts arent cheap, but its not a major job, from memory i just used a small lever bar to pop the old ones off the mounts, pulled them out and put new ones in. The hardest part is holding the hatch up while you do it, you wont believe how heavy that thing is, you will need something to prop it up with!
  9. Alpina, or Ruf, or classic Audi quattro. Not that i am in the market but a boy can dream...
  10. Im pretty sure i still have an e21 4 speed lying around in storage somewhere if you are still looking.
  11. OMG thats terrible, im not a violent person but i want to punch the person that did that.
  12. You can actually do it either way, it will just be a much higher value resistor in parallel than if you put it in series, as long as the total resistance of the led and the resistor is the same, or similar, to the filament type bulb it should work.Obviously if the resistor is too big it will dim the led but they use such a tiny amount of power it doesnt have to affect the brightness.
  13. You need to change the resistance of the leds so the computer thinks there is a light bulb there. Im not sure if you can recode it so it doesnt check for number plate lights, but its probably easier to put a resistor in series with the led bulbs so it knows they are there.
  14. Now that i know what your offer is i can swoop in with a higher offer and cut you out of the running !!
  15. I doubt that the extra you might get for it would cover the cost of fixing it, plus i dont believe in fixing things on cars just for the new owner to enjoy it!
  16. That looks like a second pump attached to the tank, i would pull them both out, get a new pump and chuck it in, dont bother with second hand pumps they disintegrate inside after a while. My e39 did this and i think the new pump from bmw wasnt too expensive.
  17. I would love to see a track day e38, full cage , stripped interior, v8 with a 5 speed manual and lsd, but not sure if i would want to own it!
  18. Mine eats front thrust arm bushes, last time i put whiteline (?) urethane ones in and they made a big difference, and seem to be lasting well. Have you done rear subframe bushes yet?
  19. NZ new spec... 1 owner in Japan.... You cant have it both ways buddy.
  20. Yes i do, but they are only dead sometimes!
  21. I think i can safely say the 540 is run-in now
  22. Didnt bmw make a hydrogen powered version of the e38 when they were new? If you were that worried about petrol prices wouldnt you get a 728 instead.
  23. My 318is has been brilliant, i have just done the timing chain tensioner, no major, and it is a great little drivers car. They are going for next to nothing at the moment too.
  24. Stick with the e30, no safety bits but a good solid car and i bet everyone on here drives a little bit more carefully when they are in a car without abs, dsc, srs, etc. Otherwise i can recommend an e34, see profile pic!!
  25. I have a 3/4 drive socket set and a bit of scaffold pipe you can borrow...
