  1. Picked the 540i wagon up from the painter, nice shiny new coat of paint on the bonnet! Something else for the new owner to enjoy now to spend the weekend cleaning it and putting it on trademe....
  2. Does the headunit have a cooling fan in it?
  3. So, everything is back in and tightened up, just waiting for the battery to charge so i can fire it up and see what happens....
  4. Mine did something similar, i replaced the rubber diapraghms in the heater control valve and it fixed it right up.
  5. Cough turbocharging cough!
  6. Got carried away over the weekend and pulled the starter motor out, stripped it down, cleaned, lubricated, and put it all back together. Gearbox went back in this evening with some help from my faithfull assistant/ wife!
  7. It looks like the kind of project i usually end up with!! Probably only worth tackling if you can cut out sheetmetal and replace it yourself, not economical to pay someone to do it.
  8. No, they are blind holes. I used a bottom tap to clean the threads then blew them out with compressed air, probably a bit ocd but its not much extra work.
  9. More progress, thanks to daylight saving... Cleaning out the threads with M12 x 1.5 tap New pilot bearing and flywheel fitted, flywheel bolts torque to 77 ft-lb, 105Nm. Clutch plate fitted with alignment tool Pressure plate fitted, M8 bolts torque to 18 ft-lb, 24 Nm. Now i just have to wrangle the gearbox back in!!
  10. I havent done it yet, but i will keep an eye out from now on! 4 times sucks, maybe if you lower it you will tap it going forward instead of ripping it off on the way back out!!!
  11. Its a brilliant machine for turning petrol into noise and smiles
  12. Welder and grinder? That just needs a wash!
  13. I thought empty was just the natural state for the fuel gauge in these!
  14. Lots of room in the boot! Taking an 850i to SCA wouldn't exactly be a tough ask either!!
  15. No more difficult than pumping up a bike tire, just a LOT more volume, and most bike tires run at about 60 psi so youre talking about half the pressure, let us know how you get on...
  16. Yeah, i will miss it when it is sold but cant justify keeping it and the m5, and the e36, and the e21.
  17. Rear main seal has been done since i got the car, might do the shift link while im under there, i have a factory short shift but am saving that for the e36.
  18. Of course you could inflate a car tire with a bicycle pump, it would take days but it could be done!
  19. Some progress, have aquired / made / borrowed the special tools required... Torx T60 bit, has to be modified slightly. Alignment tool, thanks Martin. Home made flywheel lock. Bolted on... Old flywheel off...
  20. If only i had access to a potential mechanic, all the nephews are a bit too young yet. Flywheel was $1731.45 +gst Clutch kit $450.59 + Pilot bearing $37.04 + Clutch bolts $10.61 + All up $2564.10 from Jerry Clayton BMW.
  21. HAH, i have to move 3 cars to even get near it!
  22. Well done, good to see one that isnt black, white or silver!
  23. Picked these up last night, need to get a few special tools and will then be chucking it all in the wagon. Will try to take some photos to throw in here as well. Using the Bentley manual to guide me along but feel free to share any tips or tricks you know of...
  24. So from what i can see its $75 for the app and $10 - $20 every time you use it, starts to add up pretty quickly, i have torque pro on my tablet which is fine for reading fault codes but doesnt do much else.
