  1. I've spent loads on mine too and its still not quite there yet, but I did convert it to manual. I thought about selling it, but decided to keep it. Converting it to manual could pay off if you can find the parts for a good price, I got everything for about $650, with a ratty PFL Getrag 260 with 300,000k, but i got a FL gearbox with 85,000ks as a spare. http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....43326&st=15 this owner wants $8500-$9000 Its Tidy as, but I suspect he'll get $5000 at the most.. but thats just my opinion, but if it was manual then maybe.
  2. Yeah good point, the Golf probably only takes 2.5 turns to lock. Might look at doing that sometime soon. cheers
  3. I still have the E30, for a while I was considering selling it, currently I don't have much spare cash to spend on it. Over the weekend I gave it an Oil change with Penrite 10w-50 Fully Synthetic and an OE filter. Now that I'm paying a mortgage progress will be somewhat limited for now. What I really want to do is tidy up the panel and paint and tighten up the steering. After driving around my 2005 Golf GTI/X for 2 months the BMW's steering feels rather vague and skitterish and brakes useless. (The brakes are all new too). but its unfair to compare, the old E30 is still a fun car to own and if I can sort the steering out I'll be happy enough I suspect.
  4. Yeah that's correct. Its not that hard to service it myself though, according to the vid I watched on youtub.
  5. Mmm and I thought prices were bad here in Christchurch. At 34 I have just purchased my 1st house, which I got built. I didn't want some earthquake damaged house with EQC claim issues, also I was able to get a place built for about the same price as buying an existing one of similar spec. I paid $399k for a new House, which is 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Internal access double garage, total 164sqm and 600sqm of land. It took around 7 Months to complete, however is now worth around 440k. The catch is that the house is in Rangiora, about 32K's from work, however I am getting used to getting out of bed early to beat the traffic. I'm loving having a new house though, even on a cold day it stays quite warm, due to double glazing and better insulation. This is what I got for 399k. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  6. They have some common issues, but nothing over the top, I got home tonight averaging 6.8L/100k I got a 3 year warranty with the car just in case things go wrong.

  8. Last weekend I purchased a 2005 Golf GTX (has the same 2litre turbo engine and DSG gearbox as the GTI). Its got a full tan leather interior with wood-grain trim and steering wheel (not to everyone's tastes) but this version is a lot cheaper then the GTI This video has one identical to mine , colour and interior etc. Awesome car, a blast to drive in all situations so far, comes stock on 225/45/17 tyres, so i'll probably leave it as it is for a while, front brakes are 312mm discs, to me that's huge compared to what i'm used to, it stops, handles, goes very well for a hatchback. This car was to replace the old Merc 190e which is on trademe at $1 res. I needed something that would please both me and my partner, being a fan of manual gearboxes most automatic cars don't cut it for me, this was the closest thing I could get to a manual. My partner isn't keen on big cars, I also commute 70k's to get us to work and back so fuel economy was important. Its nice having a car with 12 Air bags and 5 Star Euroncap when you drive on 100k roads a lot. I love my E30 still, you just can't compare old to newer etc. You can almost see my E30 next to it. 9. Converted, Non ABS model. Thanks
  10. With much regret my beloved E30 is going up for sale, as I have purchased a 2005 Golf and have decided that I only want to run one car that does everything I need. (So only one Reg, Wof, Insurance etc to pay). My priorities have changed now that I am paying a Mortgage and commute 70k's a day for work. Specs: 1989 SA Built E30 325i Manual Getrag 260 Box Electric Sunroof Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit Suspension (Bilstein Sport Shocks, Eibach Sport Springs). (done about 2000ks since brand new when I installed it). New Cambelt, Waterpump, Tensioner in the last 2000k's New Brembo Discs and brake pads at all four corners also in the last 1000k's or less 4x Brand New Hankook V8-RS Directional tyres (Probably 1000k's max on these). Hartge 15inch +20 ET Wheels New Intake Boot, Distributor Cap and Rotor, Temp sensor Plenty of other work done, just can't think of what it is. Grey Leather Interior About 234,000k on the clock. In my Project thread and showroom Thread you will be able to see some more pictures etc. On the weekend I'll take some new Pics and update then. The car could do with some panel and paint, however I was more interested in making the car drive well to be a good daily driver. I'm looking for about $6500, it owes me much much more then this of course.
  11. Where does one find the correct fluid for the box? I love how they say its "Life Time" Oil. On my last E39 I got it changed using normal Tranny Fluid supplied by the mechanic, however it seemed to make the shifting worse the it was with the old fluid. My info says it must be: E39 - Japanese, Malaysian, South Africa 6 cylinder with Jatco (Japanese Transmission Company) autobox = Apolloil ATA-D3 from Idemitsu. Also mentioned here, and about how the Jatco has life time oil, despite it not being written on the gearbox etc. http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E38/E38_ATF_Oil_Types.pdf Why am I asking this? I'm thinking about getting another cheap E39 to use as a daily, the cheap ones tend to have these Jatco boxes, which are $200-$400 on trademe used, but I like to do what I can to prevent failure.
  12. Search in this forum for webetk and it comes up with the info on how to get it. Cheers
  13. Awesome, you will love the car once its all sorted. In a way, i'd be tempted to leave the Reg on Hold for now, store the car a while until I had the $ to do it all at once, and in the mean time drive the trusty toyota. During that time you might find some good parts cheap and save some money on the way and learning to do some the jobs yourself will save you loads, however you would need to invest in some tools. I tend to import all my Parts, but the shipping often cancels out the savings, there are some good dealers here in NZ that don't charge the earth, but small items that don't cost much to ship, it can be worth it. As previously mentioned, Eurorec is a good option in regards to the steering rack. I can see headlight adjusters on Ebay for $10 USD + Shipping. Later on, if you want the LED on the Dash cluster fixed, I know of a guy in CHCH that does this repair. (He repaired mine for me) its not overly cheap, but I like everything to work, it only takes 10mins to remove the dash cluster from these cars. I might get myself another E39 sometime, good sold safe cars, that still get rated 5 stars for safety on that rightcar.govt.nz site.
  14. Nice Looking Car Its actually a 523i, for some reason a lot are registered as 525i when they come to NZ, with your one it was due to the car having the model removed as an option, when it came to NZ they assumed that its a 525i due to being 2.5L Your seats actually have Vinyl Seat covers on them, underneath these will have the cloth seats (I know this as my E39 had exactly the same seat covers). A giveaway is also the door cards, these don't have the cloth bits when you have the factory leather seats. Alternatively they may have been recovered completely, not that it matters. 15. Mmm 4-9k is a big variation. It might be better to send the car to CHCH and get a specialist to do the work, ie Kevin Burt, which may still cost as much, but hopefully closer to 4k
  16. I'd be interested to see the headers, the picture of them on trademe was terrible and hard to see anything of use.
  17. Seriously, that would be a good car, 20k of work done at BMworkshop in 5 years means that its probably good to go without needing too much mechanical work for a while.
  18. Naa, I stopped bidding at $2510, as it was hard to tell what condition it was in from the crap cellphone pics etc, also the other bidders autobid wasn't matched either, it looked shabby in bad pics, so in real life who knows.
  19. I was tempted to buy it due to the low price, its been listed a few times, I think it needed a new coolant temp sensor and some other sensor, but they also mentioned they would fix it incl in the price. However I have already had one in that same Colour and Year in the last 2 years, also my partner might kill me if I buy another car. This was the one I had, paid 4k with 97,000k, it was too cheap and seemed to good to be true. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Well.. it was, I had to fix about 7 things wrong with it, but I still managed to sell it for enough to cover the cost of buying it + fixing it.
  20. If you want a drive down south http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-580220168.htm Pictures could be better though and details.. price is good.. but prob allow 2k on top for fixing things and servicing.

  22. Tidy looking car you have there, only thing is I found the Pics too big on my 1280x768 Laptop screen Pretty much every Jatco box in a E36, E34, E39 I've driven has had the same issue, one I sold 7 years ago still hasn't failed yet. I like the Colour, clean
  23. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-579628952.htm this should fit I have a spare one thats only done 85,000k, but don't really want to part with it for now, as my current ones done 300,000k and might need replacing soon.

I got new Hankook Ventus V8 RS for about $150 each, but that was the cheapest tyre I could find that wasn't going to be dangerous. Usually I go for RE002 Potenza or S03 etc. My mechanic had this customer the other day that came in with a 2004 STI WRX which had worn OE Potenza RE050 tyres on it, the customer wanted Kingstars, my mechanic tried to talk him out of it, but it made no difference, he drove away with 4 new Kingstars and my mechanic couldn't believe someone would put such sh*t on a 300hp car
  25. This car is impressive and rather tempting. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-580362890.htm
