I Finally got around to converting the 330i from an auto to 6 speed manual today.. - and it feels great! if anyone wants some help on the E46 conversion, happy to help. and FYI I used a M3 (S54) clutch and flywheel instead of the stupidly expensive 330 one with the built-in pilot bearing. I made an adaptor to use the 6speed type needle bearing to fit in the crank where the "normal" ball roller would go.. although this meant machining up an adaptor it was well worth it.. The cutch plate for the 6speed was also used - they are the same diameter and thickness as an M3 one so, fit in there just nicely, just the splines are different than an M3.. swapped the diff to the original spec 2.93 ratio removed the viscous fan and swapped out the aux fan etc to be as original manual config.. ----------------- this goes with the recent mods - changed out the std headlights for Bi-Xenons (huge improvement ) and upgraded to the Hi-Fi spec audio ( huge improvement too!) added TV function back, with a Tuner mod that allows digital Freeview reception and keeps the stock video module.

Another one for you.. https://trademe.co.nz/1215967226 -
It looks like someone has made "poor mans" aux in by connecting up a 3.5mm jack to the tape player audio wires.. it will only work if you put a tape in the player etc..

Are the video modules still avaliable? Pm me if they are... thanks

the attached picture looks worse than it really is.. there are no lines etc that it looks like there is.. its just that effect you get when you take a picture of a tv screen !, so yeah its perfectly watchable! as for the IR receiver: no I didn't do that. - I couldnt see the point of having a remote control for something at your finger tips.. but if you where to use the USB/PVR function a lot it would probably be worth it to make it easier, as the way they have made the existing buttons work different features in different ways takes a bit of getting used too... I think in reality, once you've set it up, all you'll be doing is changing channels up and down.. ?!?! -
Hi People, If you thought your old TV tuner is obsolete, dont throw it away just yet! I have just modded my unit with the tuner adaptor card mod from this Site: Link. Straight forward mod really, the most "difficult" part was to solder 1x wire internally - not too tricky at all! (also depends on your current tuner type.. (see site)) there is plenty of info on the site regarding the mod and the types of units are best etc.. the tuner has a usb input so you can play video files etc and PVR function also. it works well with the steering wheel controls, and the ibus adaptor has integrated the std monitor buttons to do all the required tuner functions, which takes a bit to get your head around but once its set, you dont have to play with much apart from the channel up / down... the definition isn't exactly perfect but its stepped down to basic old RGB 7 inch screen stuff so dont expect too much... see attached works ok at speed, but suffers as any TV tuner would going in and out of good coverage.. depends on your location of course.. Any Questions, just ask..

Hi people, Due to having 2x work cars in the family, the trusty X5 is going up for sale.... its just sitting in the garage, so it needs a new home. 04, Nz New diesel sportpac, 210000km well spec'd version, in very good condition with the odd stone chip and blemish to be expected with a car this age/mileage etc. Drives great, HEAPS of Tq and cheap to run.. some of the keys points: conventional springs - not airbags Mk4 Nav Factory ULF Bluetooth Reverse Camera Aux-in BM54 dual tuner radio module Aux heater 10x airbags auto lights and wipers LED angel eyes removable tow bar ((with 2x tongues) with factory trailer module Etc) cargo barrier and boot blind Recently maintenance: Just changed the cracked exhaust manifold with a cast version(common fault with the facelift engines), new air filter, new front caster arm bushes transmission serviced at 150km drives faultlessly.. fuel filter changed about 10k kms ago. had a look around trademe etc, I was thinking $17,000. - let me know if you think its way off and I will consider reasonable offers.. the sync procedure is very specific.. Read this thread..

there was a lot of issues with bad coils around that era... it will show up as an error in INPA or other diagnostic software if it is a coil... the ECU will not always give check light until it occurs a certain amount of times... air leaks in the PCV system are not uncommon too... Good luck

Hi Russell, - just be careful before you right off your IR key fob, the digital camera test is not a 100% accurate of checking if the IR transmitter is working. ( of course it maybe stuffed too ). in particularly newer cameras filter IR, so you won't always see it working.. have you tried re-syncing it with the car..? there is a very specific procedure and must be done in the right conditions.. - i.e. out of the sunlight or other IR sources>.. if the battery is out for more than 30sec(from memory) or goes flat it will need to be re-synced. If you are 100% sure its no good, I have an old key you can have... Cheers

japan telephone interface conversion to ULF e46
Dogballs replied to Neal's topic in Electrical system
Hi Sam, Good on you for getting it working.. You will need to remove the jap Nav module to be able to see it on the screen. Unplug and remove the module, the screen will go blank.. This is normal. You will need to let the car go to sleep( turn it off fully, lock it and leave for 15 mins), turn it back on.. This will allow the video module to recognise there is no Nav unit and will take over control of the video output... It may take a couple of goes at it. But it will eventually come online... It will look completely different.., You should then see the phone option. I have seen in some jap Nav systems they won't allow the phone menu as it was never an option with certain Nav units.. -
Pm sent.

japan telephone interface conversion to ULF e46
Dogballs replied to Neal's topic in Electrical system
hi Sam, you need a seperate bluetooth antenna. If you have the option 644 eject box (bluetooth) it does not have the bluetooth antenna built in. - none of them do. - it is connected via coax wire plugged into the ULF module. if you do have that eject box, it needs to be wired different than that document states. that documents is for a situation where you don't have an eject box. you can't pair via steering wheel controls. it may help if you post a pic of the components you have.. ULF, eject box, etc - a picture speaks a thousand words (apparently) -
HI, any chance of dropping 1x bmw wheel to Turangi on the way? Thanks, Dean

Dogballs replied to Neal's topic in Electrical system
Don't use pin 39, just try and jump/short pin 32 to any ground and check. - make sure you are try to enter pairing mode correctly: Ignition off, short pin 32, turn ignition to pos 1 but continue to have pin 32 shorted, it should enter pairing mode after a few seconds.... release pin 32, pair phone!, once phone completed pairing, turn ignition off to save. you say you have a bluetooth eject box? that will need to be wired in a particular way ( not as described in document as that is only if you don't use an eject box) have you fitted a bluetooth antenna? -
no they won't... keep an eye on trade thou... every now and again a sports wheel comes up cheap enough..
