I like the term GWP = Global Warming Potential, the big boogey man! So, yes we are considering C02 emissions etc. Where do they measure the levels of highly toxic waste that are produced for the different vehicles? It doens't cause global warming, but I still don't want to eat it. There is a very large and powerful lobby that pushes this barrow, and you are rounded on if you question it. Yes, there are many benefits across a number of metrics, however the disadvantages are conveniently forgotten and the topic quickly changed. Anywho, this thread is about the i8 for sale, which is actually a PHEV, not a hybrid there is a big difference, so lets maybe just stick to that shall we?

It depends entirely on the metric you are measuring to give the results, if you pick Co2 emissions (as per your article) then it is easy to fudge the numbers to make it look like EVs are the better option - there are a lot of premise and basis on the estimations as you cannot actually measure the emissions for each part of every car that is made. If you start looking into the manufacture of the high capacity batteries, the rare earth magnets and the electronic controls and then measure the relative amounts of other harmful emissions then it is a very different picture. Nothing like facts to get in the way of an argument.

Wow, that is amazingly clean. Absolutely mint. I would almost be too scared to drive it!

No this is NOT an Evo 1, this is an Evo 3, or "Sports Evolution" as it is also referred to. Whilst an Evo 1 will command a price premium over a "normal" M3, they are nowhere near as collectable as the Evo3. All these versions were built to enable BMW to use newer developed parts on the DTM race cars, as the race car had to be based on the road version back in the day. The Evo 3 got a bigger engine, bigger wheels, adjustable aero front and rear amongst other things and was very much the "ultimate" version of the E30 M3. Hence the reason they also attract the "ultimate" price. The Evo I on TradeMe is overpriced in my opinion, hence why it has not sold. I don't know if this Evo 3 sold, but I don't think it did. IIRC it was listed at $145k.

Jeez, for that kind of coin and a "fully restored" car I would not expect anything that needed sorting. Hopefully it's only minor finishing stuff, if not I'm sure you'll be able to fix it though Grant.

Some of the humidity effect is from where the car has been used, some of it is from the manufacturing process.

Great idea, a kind of Forum Feedback thread. Pinned thread for others to add onto.

There are a few of the Protection Limos in NZ, very cool piece of kit, I would love to drive one, but I think they will suck the gas a bit with a V12 pushing 3.5tonnes around. The windows are the actual bullet proof glass (not what the clowns on TardMe call the comfort glass) and are about 3 inches thick, hence the different window frames. The flashing lights hidden behind the grilles are the best part, I would so love to use those when I'm stuck in traffic..

Because race car??

If you are wanting to fit the calpier from the F06 M6 onto your 640i I am pretty sure you are going to need more than the calipers, disc sizes are completely different. Continental Cars BMW in Takapuna would be able to order the parts in for you, I doubt there would be a set in NZ. Racer Products on the shore are also an approved Brembo distributor. Personally, I would be very wary of buying something like that on eBay unless it was from a very well know eBay Store.

So far the figure stands at a number of 19 deaths believed to be caused by these faulty airbags around the world, so it is no light matter. Lots of others injured. The problem is that the response rate to the letters being sent out is very, very low. Too many people are ignoring them, not just on BMWs but all the manufacturers affected. Hence the reason to actually explain to people what can happen if things go wrong with them. NZTA are now looking at how they can make it a WoF fail if your car is on the list and hasn't been checked and fixed, so as to actually make people get them sorted. Recall would still be free of charge to the owner.

That's the one! Dean never found a buyer then? Bloody nice car that is, wonder if the wife is open to the idea of another race car in the garage...
-
Some person thought it would be a good idea to park this outside work the other day, and then make me drive the bloody thing for two hours.

Easy, keep the grey one. Dolphin metallic is THE best E30 colour, and paint is more expensive and harder to DIY than mechanicals. IMHO.

I have got a genuine fog light for one side if that helps. Which bumper trim parts are you after exactly, as there are a few different bits?
-
Does look well priced, if there are no issues waiting to be found. Over 100kms, imported, small ugly rims are only down sides. Service history would be nice to know on these. Very limited market for the 5 Series Touring now, which is a shame as they are such a great car, most people want an X3 / X5 SUV it seems, probably because they are the latest trend.

Easy there fella, I think we have had enough death threats over this already. Lets keep it relevant to the OP from now on please and thank you.

Needs a price as per Forum Rules.

Zender Kitted '87 E30 325 rebuilt motor etc.
E30 325i Rag-Top replied to LemonHunter's topic in TradeMe discussions
Yeah, it definately referred to an engine re-build at Bavarian Motors a couple of years back, which now seems to have gone from the text. Maybe didn't have the invoices / info to back it up? -

Things are only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them... whether it's an E30, E36 or an F80.. I think he is underselling the work that has been done on the engine, but that said if you spend $30k on an engine the value of the car doesn't go up by $30k (obviously). If someone is looking for an e30 track car or dedicated race car then this would be a good place to start, cage it, add a CAI and off you go. Possibly a bit too clean for a race car, but you can't have everything. -
The pictures are just renders from the product configurator with the "police" graphics overlaid, so I wouldn't pay too much heed to the details. Aussie police tender very differently to NZ so their choice makes no difference, the lack of a Holden alternative does though. I have always wanted to order a car with the "gun cabinet" option ticked!

Very confusingly the BMWi Performance range, of which the 330e is a part, use a range of differing drivetrains just to make things even more confusing and hard to explain to the customers and NZTA. The i8 has a seperate engine for each axle, petrol on one, electric on the other (with I think a two-speed gearbox but could be wrong), the 225Xe is then a back-to-front i8 with again one motor per axle but the other way round to the i8, 330e is between the petrol and gearbox as you say Ron, to take advantage of the 8-speed shifter, the X5 40e is different again with the electric motor somewhere in the middle IIRC. Some of the models also use the starter motor as a generator and an extra :"eBoost" electric motor in certain modes for an extra 5kW or so! I wish they would just pick a system and stick with it, but then that would be far too simple and nowhere near as much fun for all the German boffins!

Not sure I understand that graph - the "torque and amps" axis is a bit strange, how is that calculated - is it the torque multipled by the amps pulled by the motor - which might make sense? As the rpm increases the torque remains constant but the power (kW) increases, which is provided by an increase in current. just checking the technical info on i3 and i8 and that would suggest the max torque figure is pulled all the way to max RPM, which backs up what I have always believed in that the torque curve for these motors is pretty much a flat line.

It all depends how much you really want a coupe with a bit more poke under your right foot. I don't think there would be any point in doing it for a monetary gain excercise as by the time you take into account all the little bits and pieces and cost out your labour time it wouldn't stack up. My suggestion would be to drive the 4-door and fix / repair any little bits and pieces that need doing as you go along, then if you still really need a 2-door sell the 4-door and buy one.

Cheers, I'm not sure how practical mine would be with the kit on it, driveway has bit of an angle getting onto the road, so it might have to come up a little so I don't rip the skirts off it!
