  1. but is there really a need for a manual on the open road? You arent changing gears often and when you do, a DCT will do it quicker, smoother and with less effort.
  2. bet it does mean skids.... from redline, with a clutch dump, in the wet
  3. pah, 540i... get an E34 518i! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-854409952.htm
  4. Each to their own. I think its cool in all the cars ive used it on. After the novelty wears off you probably wont use it, but at least you have the option to.
  5. you wanted reasons for going DCT or not, that right there is a difference. DCT has LC, manual doesnt. Also, im sure the M3 has enough power to do skids no matter if its DCT, if you heathens are that way inclined.
  6. i also have a skyline, so well versed in the art of skids.... but i'd trade the lack of traction for launch control any day. Makes traffic light drags way more exciting.
  7. who needs skids when you have launch control? DCT 1 - 6SPD 0
  8. Gorgeous, all of them. Although, i do have to say i think i prefer the E31 body in dark colors rather than light.
  9. Time to lock thread and throw away the key? Once again the "manual is superior to everything else" brigade has ruined a thread.
  10. 3pedals does not maketh race car driver.
  11. i disagree with this. a manual isnt going to make you a better race driver. If you dont know lines, corners or which gear to be in, you'd still be sh*t on a track even in a manual. Dont get me wrong, im all for a decent manual with a clutch, but i dont buy into having one instantly making you superman.
  12. You shouldnt be "learning" the clutch in an M3 anyway IMO. I love dual clutch boxes, think they are the best thing since sliced bread and beat out a manual clutch any day. Ive been there done that to driving a manual daily in rush hour traffic. Give me a clutchless anything for that trip, any day.

    UK M3

oh but have you not heard? UK import corrosion is a myth.
  14. LMAO and thats not even the worst part. The worst part is that the chain isnt on the front of the engine like normal, its on the rear, against the firewall.

    editing dash cam

i use http://www.adobe.com/nz/products/premiere-elements.html I have it for other videos too, but its easy to use when i edit my dashcam videos.
  17. never replaced the waterpump in any of the cars i did it on, and it was perfectly fine. Same with a lot of other people out there, its a common way of cracking the nut. its a swift sharp tap on the end of the spanner with a hammer, not bloody belting on it repeatedly.
  18. Bold claim, guess im lucky with a 3 for 3 success rate with my technique.
  19. also remember its reverse threaded.
  20. ive had good experience doing the above. A swift whack of a hammer to the spanner usually cracks it.
  21. i think i hear what you mean in the second of the new tensioner videos (the one with the link), its especially noticeable as you decelerate near the end. Im sure i also hear it in the first one too, just not as loud or as much, but the test conditions in that video arent the same (revs arent as high or held as long). If you can do the same conditions as that last video for the old tensioner, i think you will hear it there too. My gearbox had a whine that sounded like that in first gear, and apparently its fairly common in 3.0s.
  22. its called driving to the conditions, he clearly wasnt >_< Going to go back to the same color, or change it up?
  23. i had a quick listen before i went off to work, and ill have another listen after work but from what i heard, i didnt hear anything abnormal? Could be my speakers, so ill try some earphones tonight.
  24. argh, thats some brutal curbing.
  25. Likely it'd be an E46 if i went M3 again. Would love an M5 but they are still mental dollars.
