Ive noticed end of last year and this year its actually now pretty much anti-social to smoke ... Was at a concert recently and the smokers took themselves far away from the crowd. to light up. Most people I think know they only have a few years left of it .. I personally think the government should just fast track the banning of it because we as a nation are ready socially to accept the ban.

Then they're not true car lovers then ... I think there is a difference between making people generally feel unwelcome, general anti-social behavior vs say cheeky marquee banter from the uneducated.

The 'scenes' thing for different car marquees is defanitely an age thing. People chill out a lot when they get older... still like different cars and brands but with less tudes everywhere. Its quite refreshing.

There is more to 540 power train than out right speed. I would say one of their best features is the raw low end torque for just getting out of the way fast. / epic over taking manuvours

The next big leap is automated driving. Its already working obviously in several POCs. Merc look like theyll be one of the first to release it into the mainstream. Their system is light years ahead of others, including that google car stuff. The lighting thing I think is cool however, its one thing BMW are doing in the looks department which is just way better then everyone else at the moment. It makes a nice change form the F10 / GT design days

Skip trying to get the 'OEM' tow kit thing ... theyre still moon beams expensive for some reason when is yet to be explained to me. Also Westfalia agent in NZ is stupid expensive too. The manufacture that does this for BMW is a company called Westfalia. I got some of mine from Ray/Hell BM and the rest from Schmiedmann. The kit you want is "Towing hitch detachable vertical original Westfalia" Search it in the text field in the search box on the Schmiedmann website. Will cost you about 1k to land. They have aftermarket wiring kits. .. You need to select the right version depending if you have mtech rear bumper or not. You can load up your LKM/LCM (light control module) ... which has a lot more that just light control loaded into it as its one of the main coded modules in the car. It wasn't designed to drive extra bulbs on the curcuit or relays and will start throwing errors or worse. You need to either run the OEM module (just get one second hand) and wire it in. Or go for the aftermarket wiring loom which covers it quite well. I used a OEM system and modified the euro plug output to suit the scaled back AUS/NZ wiring standard. See thread above.

Troy starting to think about buying bulk. Down side is the e30 needs 10w60 castrol edge sport else you end up with a tractor sound with the wrong oil from the vanos. The 540 is happy on 5w30 castrol however.

Unfortunately it happens in this country .. not too often. The main cause of it is that cancer drug P. It drives normal people to do some stupid sh*t.

This an a few other incidents are why i'm overly security conscious. Its not just with cars either, When touring with my band around NZ & Aus the unfortunate downside is dealing with drunk and other shady people at 3am. You learn to get a pretty good judge of people pretty quick and avoidance is the best way. If it looks like trouble, it pretty much will be. Have door locks set to lock after 30kph (can code that stuff in on '99+ cars) That and driving at night coming up to red light intersections is always scope for opportunists and drunk red light runners (so many of these)...

Happened to an ex when she was on mt eden. Stole the car ... cops caught them 5 hours later... the noobs parked the car in a drive way and tried to deny it. Officer was on his way past the house when he spotted it.

So we all know that petrol prices are on the down at the moment. But Ive been looking around at retail packs for oil and 5ltr Castrol 10w-60 is still $99 and not budging. Surely this price drop on barrles should be reflected in other oil products ? Other consumer markets are already talking about dropping the cost of goods (EG plastics). Is it just too early yet?

sweet..glad to see you got it working. If you dont already also look at getting the BM54 radio module.

Had it 4-5 years ... its had a new motor and gearbox in that time. While its at 200000ks its in very good condition for a 14year old car.

Take a photo of the label on top the ecu and post. Couple of people in this thread who are more than capable with dealing with this.

cheers fellas ... things to do .. headlights defanitely need a sand and coat, front badge got nicked a few weeks a go (do people even still do that?) so got a replacement on its way. Also took the oppertunity to buy new M badges for the 540 and e30 to replace the faded ones.
