E30 Battery to Boot installation - help appreciated
yng_750 replied to RipJaws's topic in Electrical system
Best net it retrofit kit as that will fit perfectly. 8guage is just not big enough for starting draw. and the negative can be grounded to the chassis at the back so no need to run two cabled. Just give very good connections to ground -
Unrelated but my pet hate is start stop traffic. Have seen a couple of under 100km milage cars with plastics crumbling from consistantly high engine bay temps.

You sir are the man

Possibly. But it was poverty pack as fat as interior and wheels which would be rare for a embassy car especially swiss. ( they use s500 mercs as taxis) i was guessing private import from someone who lived there. Is at 325000kms now so obviously gets used

Dishwash also destroys rubber. Get turtlewax ice car wash. Be around 35-40 but is very thick so only takes a small amount. Best part is it wont leave water spots so you can let it air dry. Very very good on black cars

Prob cost tge same but would also add a couple of K to the cars resale value

Get tool like andy has. But get a steel one. The cast iron ones snap like nobodys business

Saw a blue 525i yesterday. Was an 89 imported into nz in 93 from switzerland which means it was left hand drive. Weird

Nope. Try some of the board sponsors. Euro italian is good. Otherwise overseas for that kind of thing

Very hard on partially sighted people also. But get two days of solid spam attack and watch people leave your website in droves. Big money for the first person to find a better solution

False. you cant say c3/c4 is better than a3/b4. its really apples and oranges. these are all Acea ( automobile constructors european union) ratings a3/b4 is the main oil rating for capabilities such as drain intervals and shear strength etc the stuff that really defines an oil. a3 is the petrol engine grade b4 is the diesel engine grade. so a a3/b3 will perform the same in a petrol engine as an a3/b4 but not as well in a diesel engine. C3 and C4 are catalyst compatibility rating for diesels with a diesel particulate filter. these rating measure completly different capabilities of the oil, mainly when its burnt and creates soot pariticles. so in many years your diesel engine will be able to use a higher grade a9/b13 oil (or whatever they bring out thats better) but it will always require an oil that is compatable with c3 or c4 ratings for the Diesel particulate filter. a5/b5 and c4 are the most stringent ratings so i would agree the penrite enviro+ range which meets both would be an ideal oil for either petrol or diesel bmws. and just for reference most ratings rate both diesel and petrol engines. the other main gradings you will find in nz will be the API ratings which are often SM/CF or SN/CF These are S for petrol (Spark ignition being S) And C for diesel ( Compression ignition being C) So a SM/CF and SN/CF would both be the same in diesels but the SN would be better in a petrol engine. but again looking for the C3 or C4 rating if you have a DPF hope this helps.

Doesnt the infrared have to be paired to the car after battery instalation. My e39 did. Had to do a combo of ignition on and off to authorise the chip then hold down unlock pointing at mirror to set the remote locking

Yes and no. Engines require stable lubrication. Items like vanos and hydraulic lifters need a stable and predictable pressure and viscosity at certain.temps to operate correctly. Thats why later.models are very specific while earlier ones only give api specs or similar.

I did a 16". Most brands go 10,12,14,16 from what ive seen

318i Engine Shaking, loss of power, weird engine sound

Sounds like a sh*t mechanic. Get a proper mechanic to plug in a scan tool and find the actuall prob. Could be afm. Air leak or cam/ crank sensors. Or possibly a coil. No point throwing parts at it just find the right part first. Probably end up cheaper than the parts the first guy did. Also what year etc is the car helps alot -
A 10/60 is quite thick compared to most performance oils. This would of course give a little better stability over a 5w40 if the oil over heats. But as long as you have sufficient cooling i dont see why a fully synthetic 5w40 will do the job. But like op said. Plenty of discussion out there so lets not fill his thread with discussions. Let there be plenty of targa goodness

If you mix it up with water in the spare wheelwell it wont move around with hard driving

Very common issues. Plastic breaks down and breaks. Often small hose at bottom of reservoir. Only proper fix is new radiator, Water pump, thermostat and hoses. You can fix one at a time but they all fail with age so best to do it all. If you shut it down when it popped likely no engine damage so at least thats a positive

Impact looks to be at a decent angle which reduces forward load on airbag sensors Bigger cars with more airbags may have activated curtain airbags only in this scenario.

http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/ They say duty under $60 will be waived not may be waived. Also import duty vaties dramatically for different classes of goods. My question is if they are happy to keep your tax when it doesnt apply are they actually paying it when it does reply. Say they dont and customs hold your goods. Cry all you like they wont let them go and im guessing ebay would take weeks to sort it out. Another reason to consider local shopping

Translation you did it yourself?

I got stanley from supercheap. About $80 iirc. Good quality. Only gripe is the prongs can be abit bulky to fit into smaller diameter springs.
-
They legally do not apply duty to private imports below 400. Its nothing to do with not bothering. And if duties arent due guess who keeps the money. Thats the fraud
