i hate to say it, maybe if it was a touring or convertible or M325i, it might be worth repairing (i dont know what it is and the damage), but if its a 4 door walk away, maybe coupe too, in this case maybe find another and reshell. you can buy a rough but legal and straight e30 for around 1500 mark. Or buy another 325i and keep this as a parts car

nothing wrong with an M40 engine, underpowered yes, especially compared to a japanese 1.8L from the same age, but you dont buy a 318i for that reason and i learnt to do an M20 timing belt when i was 15 years old, with pretty much no mechanical experience. I couldnt afford to maintain my car at a garage so an internet connection solved that. M40 is even easier I have done a few of my M40s now. easiest part is that there is so much room in the engine bay. I dont remember requiring any special tools except to get fan clutch off, and radiator removal is recommended in some write ups but definately not essential, just remove the shroud off it. Really a piece of cake on the M40.

first episode is the one featuring NZ so catch it! i streamed it last night, it was very good, this season seems to be much better??

i have an M20 Auto powered parts car, still starts and drives, but it too has a cooling problem. Obviously the trans no good to you but any little bits you need, evern obscure sh*t, its all there if needed. Wont be officially parting it out just yet, untill i can drive it to new house, but its there waiting for it etc. dont mind removing interior etc cops cant see.

have always used castrol in the past, but using Penrite now because Castrol didn't do the oil i needed for my car. the only non brand name you can use is Repco home brand, i forget which oil it is, but look along the shelf and you will see a brand name in identical bottles. but range is very limited.

can we expect our providers to pay for installation if we want to connect to them? or do we not have that bargaining chip yet?
-
haha yup. I read a lot on all sorts of forums, what worked for different people, some swearing it would or wouldnt work. Its easier to just figure it out yourself at the time given your knowledge of parts avaialable to you. can definately be done using 100% factory parts with gearbox on the right angle etc. more than one way to skin this cat ha!

I can tell from the pixels

Jon is wrong on the G240 as far as i know, in my conversion, i used an M40G240 and needed to run the M20G240 linkgae and driveshaft to make it all work. good luck!

when you find what you think might be the amp, find the part number, plug that number into a site called www.realoem.com and that will help you confirm what part is it, also cross compatibility etc. BMW part numbers are almost always 7 numbers (sometimes 11 numbers to get a more accurate result), and usually start with a 1 at this age. will be presented usually like 1 xxx xxx etc. just truncate the numbers before that if there are any, might be x xx(1 xxx xxx) etc if that makes sence.
-
and also added complications of a factory amplifier. sparky for anyone that doesnt understand why
-
i might be wrong so listen to these other guys first, only had two E36s, but my understanding is if there is no amp, then there is no tweeter, and vise versa, its part of the premium audio pack or whatever they called it in the E36 generation. but yes, if you got the amp it is definitely in the boot, pretty sure behind left hand side boot liner

nothing like a good long drive to get accustomed to a new car! When i brought my V12 E34, at the time a stock 520i, from christchurch up Kaikoura highway, and slept in the back that night ha good job its a wagon. brilliant drive not really a fan of the E36 Ti shape, but i bet an M52 in it it must go well! Paging Glenn, do you still have your one??

Missed this thread, i have a pair of Hartge Centercaps here, they look like your ones, they are off a 16" version of the same wheel. I may have lost the C-clips but thats the easy bit to find.

Yes i should have done door trim too. Instead of colour coding the e30 euro surround, some have a red reflector type thing that the plate mounts into, so it makes the rear taillights look like one long bar, that may be your taste and something a bit different?? They are 15" weaves, originally from Graham now John's tech2 wagon. I sold it to a guy that was going to do M42 conversion apparently.
-
I did that to my 316i, these are professional photos i got done of it before i sold it. Gives you an idea. Looking at these make me miss it again

Thats awesome you decided too jump on it! Sounds like a good car. Welcome here Andy (from school days)

Thats good, didnt think it was steve...? Swaps are fairly common here, but could count the non-BMW ones on one hand. Why the RB30e? thats the anchor from a VL commodore isnt it?

Thinking about upgrading your BMW and thinking about money don't go in the same sentence. Upgrade is $$$ then further maintenence over and above $$$ if you want to stick to a budget upgrading a BMW isn't for you Coming from a guy two projects down and counting

$70 not too bad, should last another ten years at least
