Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
adro replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
I spent about the same as my purchase price doing my mods and it seemed a bit stupid at the time, the whole time i was thinking why am I doing this to a 4 door as i'm never going to get this money back, but it was a fun project and end result made it totally worth it. I think if the cars mint like yours, which you already own and you just want a manual, the conversion is still not a bad option. You get to replace a bunch of old parts while you are at it which in theory you would probably have to replace on a factory manual after 30 years anyway (slave, master cyls, clutch, output seal, guibo, short shifter etc). Manual 325 SE for $40k in 5 years time might sound like a bargain? -
Nice, I have some big diamond weave towel and they really work a treat! Car looks amazing

REALOEM is your friend for airbag part numbers. I don’t think they are that hard to come by as there’s so many m-sport E46’s around. For reference Weitz was selling one for $280 recently which I was too slow to get and I got this one for $220.

Driven a few km’s with the new steering wheel and I love it! That extra squish really makes for a comfortable drive, and I do love those little pads for your thumbs. I got another scanner for PA Soft and it’s working nicely. Finally I have been able to change the remote unlocking to flash the lights (it was only flashing lights for locking). Tried to do the temp re-calibration but couldn’t find the line of hex I’m looking for so will save that for another day.

I couldn’t be bothered risking my head again with spring compressors and took the front shocks to Lyall Bay service Center along with my new parts and they made them up for me. Was about an hours labour and totally worth it IMO, assuming you have access to another car to transport them to the shop while your car is up on stands.

218,xxx km this week marks 1 year with the touring. probably close to spending double what I was intending to spend but that’s old cars for you. Passed it’s WOF with no notes last week. First WOF in my ownership so I’m very happy. thanks to @Sammo for spotting this steering wheel on FB. It arrived yesterday and with a bit of a clean up it’s come up a lot better than the initial photos of it. Still will need to be wrapped again down the track as there is some deterioration on right hand side, but good enough to use now. installation wasn’t quite as straight forward as the bracket the airbag clicks into had a sticky spring and was also missing a couple of springs that fit underneath it meaning the airbag stuck out horribly. 3 torx 30 screws and it was easily swapped over. Iv also swapped my original airbag out as it supposedly had been updated with the Takata recall, however I noted it’s still a Takata bag that’s in there? I’ll have to do a bit more research. The govt website is saying no recall required for my plate, however previous owner insisted it had multiple airbag recalls done. Now I will look at getting the old one fixed up, it’s got some stitching coming undone. Turned the car on and it didn’t explode, no airbag light either. It’s quite a bit thicker than the original wheel so am looking forward to a test drive.

Yeah, be careful with that Disa pin 😉 Xenons are a nice upgrade too. @JohnM575 that is stunning! Not going to sell it then? looking forward to tracking your progress.

Fine taste in cars you have @ctho

Ooo thanks! I was searching your thread to try find the eBay seller you recommended for the wrap to no avail. Could you enlighten me?

Shane from Big Ticket transport moved my E39 to Auckland and was cool. I used https://www.wisemove.co.nz/ to find a company to move my E46 from Arrowtown to Wellington. Good luck.

Sounds about right. I expect it would be easier to pry the fuel lines off with the smaller interval too.

Tbh the 330i has enough power for me and the running I’m doing, it’s not that much better on gas either (12.5L/100km compared to 15L/100km round town) Will always miss the torque of the V8 and less road noise in the sedan without fold down seats but I think the biggest difference is the steering. The E46 is just so much more responsive and it makes the car feel nimbler. Also I don’t have to buff my headlights every week and touch wood I don’t have any weird vibrations yet.

Found some M54 buddies.

I didn’t use any RTV from memory, I used a Victor Reinz gasket on both upper and lower pans. My issue was with the valve cover gaskets and vanos solenoid gaskets which seemed to only last 12 months before they started leaking again ☹️

Hi, im looking to buy an E46 Msport steering wheel with multi function control. I don’t necessarily need the air bag. Anyone got one knocking about? Would need shipped to Wellington. cheers, A

If your car was a touring I’d say yes.

WOF passed with the same note i've been getting for the last 5 years that there's a bit of play in the steering rack (which there definitely is). Finally took it out for an errand run, had to remember how to change gear. Steering wheel had gotten a bit dry so gave it some mothers conditioner. This car has been converted to R134A by the previous owner and I'm glad to say the recent aircon gas up has worked a treat..it's not that warm in Wellington but these cars are such glass houses they really heat up in the sun.

Owning both an E30 and a 330 (albeit touring) I think the same thing!

217,700km Fuel filter replaced. Probably should have paid someone to do this as it was a real PITA on my back in the driveway..but anyway. Replaced the soft hoses too, feel good item that I've been wanting to tick off for ages. upon the start up test before I put the cover back and dropped the car I had fuel pissing out the front hose as the clamp hadn't been done up tight enough...what a smelly mess. Original looking filter. I replaced it with a Mahle one i got from FCP....should be good for another 200,000km

Can’t remember exactly but 125,xxx km. Only done 850km since last WOF which is abit of a shame. Needs a good hot run!

I just got mine WOF’d today too. Even though they are in good condition you just never know what they are going to pull you up on. I can’t go to VTNZ because my VIN number is in the system as the chassis number and they fail Me on that….and I’m too busy/lazy to drive to Porirua and point it out to them.

looks fantastic! +1 for Koni & H&R. I have the E90 tophats in my sedan that are suppose to give a few more mm drop, but looking at your photo it looks pretty similar
