Speaking of 6 series. It's no M6 but I really like this one: https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2181598334.htm?rsqid=ac430e8a63e944f8a587fbd7c7f4d054-002

Yeah the M5 is only fast at the top end, once you are in the zone it's good. Anything below 4000 rpm is pretty tame. My E55 was fast, everywhere, all the time. 500hp and 800NM though. Fast doesn't mean fun either, especially as a daily. There's limited opportunity for me to ring my cars out on our roads which is sad :(. 335i with basic bolt ons and a tune should be plenty to have fun with.

They aren't fast stock.

Yep Gull 98 is fine. Anyone who says otherwise is dreaming. "E10 fuels can safely be used in all BMW passenger cars from all model years. However, irrespective of ethanol content, the minimum octane rating as specified in the user manual must be observed as before, since some BMW models require Super Plus RON 98 to reduce knock"

So another ratty NZ new car and a mint jap import. Yet another example of Jap imports being superior and kiwis not giving a damn about their cars. No floor mats? What sort of feral animal owned it? Maybe I just have high standards...

Heh, cam chain at the back worked out real well for Audi. Issues I saw for aftermarket: Integrated intercooler/manifold. Integrated exhaust manifold. It's a great piece of packaging design, but I think that may limit potential for serious modification. It's certainly superior to a JZ motor in almost all areas, but then that's 25+ years of progress for you.

I vote 328i.

I like the red one.

I was gonna throw a cheeky $500 at them. I was tempted to just buy the wheels, swap the tires over and flick them on but I'm too lazy heh.
-
If you get them i'd be keen on the tyres if you change them.

BM Workshop usually have it on the shelf, possibly too late now.

Can't remember what video it was. But it was comparing the 340i, S4, AMG C43 and their winner was none, get the 330i instead.
-
Is it a facelift? Injector would be my next port of call if so.

Cost me $500 a wheel at Wheel fix it in Auckland. Full strip and repaint.

I think PS4S only come in 19 and above from memory? Something like that anyway.

Living with sensible(?) vehicles - E53 V8 and E60 M5...

Haha, sound plan. If you ever do have an M5 ABS failure it's usually the pump. If it can't be refurbished then you can get a pump unit from another BMW and attach it to your M5 controller. Mine came from a E9x 323i. Saved me 4 grand. The ABS pump in my old 130i also failed at about 60k km and we had just the pump repaired as the unit was $3000. -

M5 ABS units are $4500 and there's no second hand ones -
I'm not sure what the problem with the questions/answers is? People are asking if things that don't need doing have been done? The seller responded that they haven't in his ownership, he has only maintained the car, which is totally fair. I sure as hell am not doing 10 grand worth of work on mine at 100km unless something is dead. There isn't a great deal of preventative maintenance you can do to be honest, if something wears out or needs replacing then I will do it, I don't call that preventative. At $20k I think it's cheap for what you are getting, it's one of the best colour combos in my opinion and appears to be in decent condition. What you do need if you buy one of these is cash flow. If $20k is a significant sum of money to you, or you can't summon $10k within 24 hours then you can't afford M5 ownership. It might sound a bit snobbish but that's just the reality as every little part costs over $1000 a piece and there's often multiple of the same part. With regard to the M6 with 230k, that would be a prime target for rod bearings, even though I agree the problem is probably a little overblown. I would 100% go with the M5 for the same money, no contest. And finally vs the E39, apples and oranges. The E60 is the more capable car and demands you have your big boy pants on if you want to push it. The E39 has a more analog driving experience. Both are engaging and exciting to drive and I can respect and enjoy both.

Lol,BMW. Every time I hear the ding for reserve fuel I have a minor episode. BMW PTSD. -
20 grand for 500HP. The only thing faster for 20k was my old E55! https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2157022686.htm?rsqid=9e68add2de174ce58faf374f9ee223fd-003

Nope, the 4th generation 5 speed auto or 5/6 speed manual. The 5th gens start to use CVT.

You can get newer model Legacy turbo for under 10k and they are actually quite a reliable car, mainly down to their mechanical simplicity. I had two of them and neither gave any grief. If you wanted to go all out reliable then pick up a Legacy 3.0R, rock solid vehicle. The older twin turbo is more fun to drive IMO, and cheaper, but the newer single turbo is a far better car by orders of magnitude.

yep, only offer advice on what not to buy.

Wait til you are stuck in traffic or always do short trips heh. Although if you are in the Taranaki it shouldn't be a problem.

Lol I had one here ?
