Looks great. The E39 really is a classic look and silver is one of the better colours in my opinion.

Brent sorted me out a pump for my M5. Swapped it onto my block and electronics. Saved me 4 grand.

Time for this to go to new home. It's a solid, shiny car, makes some cool noises. Sadly, I have a car that looks better and makes cooler noises and i have no time to enjoy either of them properly. I have had it for 3 years and 25000km now. It's had a few bit's and pieces done in that time. 2006 BMW M5. $21000. 91000km. H&R lowering springs. Serviced by Burgers Motor Works in June. Aftermarket mufflers. Stock everything else. 8.5-9/10 condition wise. You could get it up to a 9.5 with very little work. Other work done: ABS pump replaced. VANOS ring seals replaced. Spark plugs. Air filters. Diff seal. Wheels completely refurbished and painted in black shadow. Hood struts. Battery. Voltage regulator. 1x idle actuator. New BMW coolant. Thermostat. Front and rear windscreen seals. Outstanding items: Needs new tyres before next winter. Downshift paddle is weak. It's fully functional but needs to be taken apart and glued. Still has japanese radio and nav.

Yeah, i'd pay the extra couple of dollars for PS4.

Potenza what? Michelin PS4 @ Hyper for $857 + fitting.
-
Yes, no, maybe? Depends what you want/need.

Also Burgers Motor Works on the North Shore.

That is fully sihk.

Saw it the other day and was mildly interested. I am currently using Fireball hydrophobic foam after washing the car. It gives a pretty smooth finish. Not sure how good it is at repelling dirt, cars seem to get very dirty very quickly in the current weather :(.

I have had good dealings with burgers motor works recently on my M5, 535 and Maserati.

brake pads and rotors recommendation
GorGasm replied to Joseph02's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
I'm conflicted about that comment. Yes it can be important to avoid the basement price items, but equally there's a range of prices in the middle which are perfectly fine. Taking your comment to it's logical conclusion means you should be driving around on Michelin PS4S (arguably the best street tyre out) and some sort of track day suitable brake pad. Kudos if you are, but there's nothing wrong with running a Falken, Nexen and an OEM brake pad. -

Decided it's time to sell the M5. Anyone want a good condition E60 M5?

Living with sensible(?) vehicles - E53 V8 and E60 M5...

CEL on an M5 is never cheap -
Heh, I had fun doing mine as well. Turns out my battery was probably still OK and it was my alternator voltage regulator that was poked. I replaced my battery with a 100AH non AGM battery (possibly din88?) and recoded the car to non AGM, saved $200 vs an AGM battery. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Haha the 650i is undoubtedly a better car than my Mas, but for some reason I own a Mas and not a 650i

Speaking of 6 series. It's no M6 but I really like this one: https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2181598334.htm?rsqid=ac430e8a63e944f8a587fbd7c7f4d054-002

Yeah the M5 is only fast at the top end, once you are in the zone it's good. Anything below 4000 rpm is pretty tame. My E55 was fast, everywhere, all the time. 500hp and 800NM though. Fast doesn't mean fun either, especially as a daily. There's limited opportunity for me to ring my cars out on our roads which is sad :(. 335i with basic bolt ons and a tune should be plenty to have fun with.

They aren't fast stock.

Yep Gull 98 is fine. Anyone who says otherwise is dreaming. "E10 fuels can safely be used in all BMW passenger cars from all model years. However, irrespective of ethanol content, the minimum octane rating as specified in the user manual must be observed as before, since some BMW models require Super Plus RON 98 to reduce knock"

So another ratty NZ new car and a mint jap import. Yet another example of Jap imports being superior and kiwis not giving a damn about their cars. No floor mats? What sort of feral animal owned it? Maybe I just have high standards...

Heh, cam chain at the back worked out real well for Audi. Issues I saw for aftermarket: Integrated intercooler/manifold. Integrated exhaust manifold. It's a great piece of packaging design, but I think that may limit potential for serious modification. It's certainly superior to a JZ motor in almost all areas, but then that's 25+ years of progress for you.

I vote 328i.
