  1. Yep OEM double slats are M-car only. Not my thing but they're reasonably subtle (as @qube says way better than the gopping tricolour grilles on X-series cars)
  2. looking good. i just think double slat grilles on non M cars are trying a bit hard. kinda like m badges...
  3. @Jacko That is true although the N43/N46 in the E87 1 series is a particularly shitty example. Front end will never rust because the oil all ends up on the outside. N13 in the F20 appears to be somewhat more reliable (relative term)
  4. @qube loves those m car grilles. looks like headlights could do with some tlc. space grey is a good colour though
  5. worth noting that a UK bar won't have chain attachment and will be 50mm ball size - as opposed to 1' 7'8" NZ standard. check with Coombes Johnston BMW in Hamilton as they seem to be most competitively priced of main dealers.
  6. Re: the RR - that's 70k to buy and then another 15k a year to keep it going...
  7. Great news - suspect mine hasn't depreciated much at all in 3 years!
  8. @GorGasm http://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/2888857002 has just been listed. Was previously (optimistically) up at 85k privately. Happy to see these are coming down in price, quite an appealing upgrade from mine in 540i x-drive format.
  9. I know Hansen’s auto are the BMW service agent in Qtown but not sure if they (or any main dealer really) will have much expertise with an 18 year old car.
  10. Joe Achilles has just reviewed the LCI version on youtube. 5.2sec 0-100 pretty impressive for a 2 ton single turbo diesel. I wish they made the 540d in RHD, the Alpina D5 is sedan-only.
  11. @Jacko Am I right in thinking Xenon's would be the single most expensive option on an E87?
  12. pickings are slim atm - nothing much on tardme in terms of LCI 335i, guess their price has gone up in JP like everything else.
  13. Addendum: This implementation of the BMW dash cluster (seen here on lower end F40) is soooo much nicer than the 'fancy bells and whistles with reverse tacho' version. Wish I could buy one with this...
  14. Michelin Super Sports (non run flat) are the OEM tire on those rims I believe. Good rep although I gather longevity is not their strong suit.
  15. They've obviously cleared their backlog of work. My EGR cooler got done on Monday...(couldn't give me any documentation to prove it though ?)
  16. Titansilber E91's ? - even better when they're M-sport.
  17. I had the use of a 118i (3cyl) today. Not sure how I feel about it. The tech is cool (esp HUD with speed limit info and the clever cruise control) and it drove better than the F20 118i with the same engine which felt terribly gutless. However, the ride was actually kind of crap (m-sport, not sure if adaptive susp), much worse than my F30 with adaptive susp and I hate DCT's in low speed traffic, the lurching combined with stop start does my head in. FWD not the worst thing about it but I wouldn't pay $55k for one.
  18. Several topics on this previously. The engine was updated 2-3 times over its life. (2007-2015ish). Given how many of these engines there are out there I don’t think timing chain issues are terribly prevalent, however it’s an expensive job to replace as chain is on the back of the engine. Other issue is 25k km / 2 yr oil change interval magnifies the issues so check the service history. There’s an N47 engined E91 in my family that’s done 250k Km with no issues
  19. @Michael. not everything that counts can be counted, not everything that can be counted counts
  20. @aja540i keen to see the (partially finished) product! @Olaf Plug for Fabian at Coombes Johnston in Hamilton. Gets all my parts business despite not being local.
  21. A golf yellow 2002Tii in Seatoun with plate ‘Tii’ ?
