Probably 2k at least, normally repair shops (depending on how they operate) will find other stuff that also could be worth doing and try bill you for that on top of the work you wanted done. Might be best to take it to some of the independent workshops recommended through this website, at least you will get an honest opinion and quality work.

Thanks guys, I shall ring around!

"Obviously that is just a Toyota MR2 with a fancy body kit"

Could anyone recommend where they get their BMW brake rotors from? I am after OEM ones, Sebro or Zimmerman.... Brembos too for that matter. Normally I would got through Pelican Parts or Turners Motorsports but the shipping rates are ridiculous due to the weight making less than cost effective to buy through them. Any recommendations?

Gosh, not even an XR6 turbo... ..Or where you talking about that convertible Beetle?
-
Yeah, like what Clinton mentioned, wouldn't this make a somewhat stressed engine, too stressed? Leading to premature failure..? I wouldn't personally be confident in buying such a car..
-
I would put my money on the Toyos personally. Hancooks are typically a cheaper option, but still offer good value.

Beautiful! Love a tidy stock spec example of the estate variety. Also please to see the chrome grille surround intact as is from the factory.

Glad to see they went for Toyota V8. It's quite a good combination if I say so myself. But like what Troy and crunchy said above, you're not wrong, they are pretty slack in factory spec. The stock ECU which I still have is ridiculously soft in its tune, the head inlets and outlets are undersized and the cam profiles are very economy minded. You need to spend a bare minimum of 5k on the engine (ecu, intake, cams, exhaust) just to get it up and going to the same level as a M6X which out of the box are already 50hp/50nm+ or so ahead. Originally I would have liked the idea of a M60 or better yet M62, but it's a bigger investment and I don't know the M6X series as well as I know the 1UZ having owned 5 lofty Toyota models with that motor as stock... but like you guys mentioned the originality, a BMW with BMW internals is that much more special.... Having learnt what I've have with this relatively easy conversion it wouldn't be too difficult to give it a M6X shot when its time for the next project E36. Surely Ray could supply me a M62 with the ZF auto? Hah

To be fair you best option might be to recover the door cards at a good quality upholstery shop. Most E36s now suffer from glue problems and shrinking of the material, so can be hard to find in good condition, unless they are mint examples that have been kept out of the sun and heat...

Gosh come on, I was being sarcastic anyway! being in real estate myself I could just imagine a buyer complaining as though the collect was a problem.
-
Oh yeah totally. I'm just sharing my point on this public forum, as are you too. Variety is the spice of life my friend!

How foul... no doubts the person that did it to that car is even more so!
-
Yes. If I was a collection of 1970-1980s BMW and Mercedes... then it would be of great appeal, but those kind of cars... no thanks!
-
Just been slowly doing the timing belt, water pump, bearings, tensioner, distributors and rotors etc. All OEM Japanese made parts of course.
-
Hence why I said a mint one would be worth 7-9k, meaning not necessarily this one.... If you bothered to read the first sentence of my posts I suggested its probably around 4k.
-
I remember on Top Gear, one that Clarkson tested, developed a few issues during the time they had it.... Xenon headlight bulb/unit failure and the driver seat back wrest mechanism broke... Disappointing !
-
Heh that didn't take long, seems I was right. Then again, it is fun to try such things as long as there's no harm done...
-
Yeah not much these days in stock spec, 4k ish... for one that needs some work. A mint 323-328i E36 coupe would be around the 7-9k depending on if its auto or manual. Bad door cars and roof linings are what pulls their resale value down.

That's a lot of junk to get rid of. I would be complaining to the real estate company!
