Stuffed M6 anyone?

Major engine failure at only 104000km.... this is why they're cheap!

Questions for seller:

1. When you stopped was there 6 litres of oil on the road behind you? How far behind you?

2. Does "on road costs included" mean "drive away"?

Might be worth the 10k!

Question for you all:

Why, in today's day and age with modern electronics etc, doesn't a low oil pressure warning force the car into limp mode, instantly start reducing available power and force the rev limit (eventually) down to 0. Would be trivial to implement in software.

The same reason the coolant temp warning only comes on once you have actually cooked the engine

Because in the early/mid 2000's BMW sucked at bottom ends. E46 M3, E92 M3, E60 M5 (and similar) all do bottoms ends

Did BMW put their hand up and say they f**ked the design / parts use with these engines?

$10k is a bit spendy - sh#t, it's a non-runner!  How much for that M5 powerplant that @BM WORLD has for sale?  You'd want some fat left in it after sourcing replacement engine and getting it all sorted.

Maybe I should buy it and make it into an ///M 645.

Bodes well for future values of E36 M3 and E34/39 M5's, E30/24/28 M's are already doing pretty well.

If any of the big motors come Manual you'd be in a position to make somthing really fun.

neglect , abuse when cold , wrong oil types , running low on oil too many times , no dispstick , oil level sesnors fail

these engines burn upto a litre of oil per 1000km

$150 per 5 litres of the bmw oil .

also 15,000km service intervals , should about 8000km

Holy sh*t balls, so fuel consumption seems to be an average of 17.5L/100km, or $330ish/1000 (Being very conservative), and oil is another $150/1000km?

$0.48/km to drive this thing without even accounting for Reg/Wof/Insurance/Tyres/Maintenance etc?!

Mind Blown.

Well these things are a high performance car after all. Much like an Aston, Porsche etc.

I've been pricing brakes for the X5 discs and pads for 1000 does not seem that bad for good parts.

I would be stoked If my m5 got 17.5 L/100 but It doesnt use anywhere near that much oil.

i think with shorter drives , cold starts etc , longer drives shoudl be less , but what you reckon you get ??

The E36 M3 Evo is also well known for having weak bottom end bearings too. Theyre just highly strung engines that need care.
