3 pointsHi, I'm the owner and manager of ECC I run all these 'events' and meets. And rest assured we do get a mix of cars - not only sacked out Mercs. We had 2x Mint E30 M3s, E36 M3s, E46 M3s, a few E90/92 M3s and the of course the M5s as well as M Coupes, Panteras, RS6s, Porsche, GTIs... Most of the above cars stock. We have a huge mix of people. The next meet is in Albany and with over $1500 worth in prices to give away, no harm in tagging along. If it's as sh*t as some may presume, always optioned to leave But I keep things in order and wouldn't be able to pull my 130+ car meets without having rules in place for the idiots.

2 pointsThat's because you can spend money on a car to make it go faster and handle better, you can't spend money on a car to make it a Genuine Tech I or Tech II. Plus you can only go 100kph on NZs road's so why worry about performance?
-
2 pointsMtech 1 & 2 E30's annoy E36 M3 owners. Because they are in the same price bracket. But not in the same performance bracket.

1 pointHello again, Thought I would write this up while I have a minute for anyone interested. I built myself a silvia race car with a nice RB30DET motor and got sick of looking at it and never being able to drive it (because racecar)... so one day a customer came into my shop with a busted 318i manual E46 and I picked it up for a song. Took me 5 minutes to pull the motor and measure up the engine bay for what I was thinking would be my new track car that i could drive everyday, something really fast and also nice enough my mum will jump in for breakfast out on the weekends. What do you know the RB30 fits perfectly in the engine bay, and the BIG RB25DET gbox I have fits in the tunnel near perfectly... even the shifter sits perfectly in the BMW shifter hole in the tunnel... On advice from a mate who is a BMW fan I brought a set of e46 330i front brakes and a rear diff and brakes. When I pulled the rear subframe out someone had done a crap repair on the rear suspension and the subframe mounts had pulled through and cracked the body, so I googled how to do the rear subframe strengthening and cut up some plates and welded them in... the rear end will now be solid. I have a few pictures in my phone I will put up now, and if anyone wants to see more I have about a thousand in my camera i will grab them out on the weekend. This is the new sump (half way through making it) so the motor will have lots of oil Another of the Sump half done Long nights in the workshop tend to bring out a weird sense of humor Test fitting the motor to see if it will fit in the car The motor all mounted and radiator fitted, just mounting the intercooler so I can hide it behind the bumper for street driving. I have had to get the exhaust manifold re shaped to mount the turbo forward a little as the strut tower in the bmw is on a better angle than the Silvia one The nissan big aluminium radiator sits under the front panel with a few cuts and some minor farication leaving good space for the fans etc The bonnet closes (on the sivia the RB30 was too tall and I had to get a fibreglass "hump" made so I could close the bonnet) so it all fits in neat and sleeperish... I imagine an RB25DET would be a wayyyyyy easier fit but I built this motor and it puts out good power so i have made it work. The oil hose lines are just sitting there waiting fot me to mount the cooler somewhere. Like I said i have loads of pics, including the rear subframe strengthening stuff, the car isnt finished, driveshaft, turbo refit, intercooler piping, its not too far away... I may make up some spare engine mounts if anyone is interested, the certifier has been in every week to look over progress so i will get it certed as soon as it drivable. cheers

1 pointHi Amber-Leigh. 1. Brake Fluid. BNT Race Brake Fluid is under $20 for 500mls, they told me its Motul RBF600 with house brand stickers on it. It has basically the same specs. I think I paid $15 and some change recently. 2. Akebono Euro - avoid. I'm running these. Better modulation than stock, meat to the pedal, but poor initial bite. The US folks love them cos they keep their wheels clean. I'd rather have bite. I elected to not use them on my Volvo. A number of folks whose opinions I trust have recommended Hawk Performance so I'm going there next time. 3. Just buy the Meyle HD's. I think I saw them advertised on TM recently. I did Meyle HD LCA's, rear bushes, and end links. I think they are the sh*t. 25k kms later it's still tight as a drum, nice and precise. They're up-rated over stock, and you can buy and fit replacement Meyle HD ball joints in future. If you can't fin local, just pay the GST on import. (try fcpeuro.com) Hope that helps.

1 pointThe importer of the car is also liable under the Sale of Goods Act if you look at the definitions closely. Something smells fishy with the car, at the least it's a honest mistake which should be rectified. Start kicking up as much fuss as possible and see who ducks for cover...

1 pointWas thinking about this and realised the reason I never go to meets anymore is because there is no race cars. I have weekend long meets in the race series. Though I would like to see the older classics parked up.

1 pointThat just looks like p/s fluid or engine oil leaks that stain the plastic.

1 pointi like the chrome rings, i think its nice to have a bit of chrome as long as its discrete. yea i guess it makes sense that after a huge repair bill you would want/have to withhold from spending any more! still looks great as it is, not a big rush.. just keep your eye peeled for bargains
-
1 pointDon't get me wrong, I really do hope this is a big success. Especially as Fearghus is putting so much of his own time and effort into it. But for the clash with the racing I would be in like Flynn.

1 point^that is exactly what I did, BMWCCNZ weren't interested in my invite, however the enthusiasm here made me think i could do it for you, but ended up loosing over $3000 due to people pulling out. Bimmersport has held about 5 track days since i have been a member here, more before that I am sure. Not a single one has broken even, let alone make a small profit to pay for the organisers time etc.

1 pointGet this to happen, give everyone enough notice and I'll drag the south island crew up there for it.

1 pointI miss the meets of the old days. We used to be able to get 25 Silvias with 20 mins notice just by TXT. Then that was all ruined by the new crowd that came along with D1NZ mentality. They expected everyone to be skidding around every corner. My Mrs even ran a few Mega meets where we had over 100 cars turn up each year from all over the country. Some mates and I still privately hire Taupo track each year. But we no longer invite random people as we run an open pit and we must trust the skill of everyone we invite. For some reason I presumed the ECC meets would all be poorly lowered E class Mercs, 520i's on 24's, MK3 Golfs with roof racks and some stupid bicycle on top. Am I wrong? Maybe I should go sometime. I didn't realise people from here helped run it. As for Bimmerfest. Well maybe next year. Hire Taupo. Get BMW Club and Bimmersport on board.

1 pointAlan Ferguson has put a whole lot of his time and own money into getting a Bimmerfest event off the ground. The first one is next weekend to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 8 series but is open to everyone with a twilight track session at HD (for only $75!!) and a cruise and lunch on the Sunday. I've been chatting to him about it and helping where I can but I think it would make good sense to support him and build on what he's started rather than setting up a competing event. With a proper structure we'd also be able to avoid clashes with things like the race series!
-
1 pointIm not knocking it but i doubt that. Auckland has some sweet and very entertaining meets\cruises back in the heyday. I dont find predominantly show n shine type meets that interesting myself but its better than nothing no doubt.

1 pointThe calibre of people on the FB page seems to be mostly drop kicks who want everything for nothing, and a lot of "juz seein wots out ther, offerz or swops 4 sumthn slammed". However, I've recognised a few people on there from BS, stick out like sore thumbs amongst the rest! (In a good way). I find this forum to be very helpful and full of knowledge from people who are willing to share it, and pretty much an all-round friendly bunch. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

1 pointHi Adeeb, Being a noob when it comes to working on my car I can say that the parking brake shoes were pretty straight forward. Given they were a bit fiddly, however the hardest part was getting my old rotors off! If you google E39 Parking Brake DIY you should be able to find a DIY for a 1998 BMW 528i on bimmerfest that was pretty helpful when I did mine Hope this will inspire you to give it a go

1 pointThanks guys - Love the info and opinions will keep it all in mind for the next time round. Rang the Expert Ray, and have gone with a set he is running on his cars - so got to be good right? Appreciate it all, and apologies for any bitch fights I may have caused in the process of checking if there were suppliers in NZ. 2 Nice big parcels on the way from the USA.. going to be Christmas next week for me.
