4 pointsHi, After a long pause I've finally purchased a car a few months ago. It's an oldie but a goodie. 1971 Porsche 911T Not quite an E30 M3 or CSL, but you never know what the future brings.... Cheers, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2 pointsI've been thinking about selling my E39, it is NZ new with 3 private owners and 2 car sales. This car has been a pleasure to own and the only problem I've had with it (apart from maintenance and servicing) is a fuel pump replacement. It was delivered new to a businessman in Marlborough, who specially ordered it. Then a few years latter traded (I presume) and another owner got it and sold it to me at 99.000km, and in the last 8 years I've put almost 100k on the clock, so it's now getting close to 200k on the clock. It still drives great and on my last trip back from Nelson I watch a Porsche Cheyanne almost run off the road trying to keep up with me. The car was ordered with quite a few options, comfort seat, de chromed, debadged, motorsport options including suspension, and the 6 speed manual amongst other things. After the original owner purchased it the car was sent back to BMW and fitted with a S5 Schnitzer kit, wheels, spoilers, side skirts mirrors, exhaust etc. So this is quite a unique car and I've been trying to figure out what it's worth....anybody have any idea what a fair price on this would be?

2 pointsProblem came back so gather round kids and learn about how i finally fixed it for reals; Codes for misfire all cylinders and adaptions maximum enrichment reached. VW MAF sensor reads about 5% richer than the BMW one, this can be seen in that my long term fuel trims are 95% compared to %103 with the BMW sensor in there. For a short time, this extra fuel due to the maf sensor change caused the car to run a bit richer which allowed it to compensate for the lean condition and make the problem appear to go away.....until the overall fuel trims adjusted and brought everything back to square one. So it had to be a vacuum leak. I spent a couple of mornings getting rowdy with the brake clean and finally found the culprit, this f**ker right here! So $50 worth of seals from Coombes later, I've taken it for a good long drive and here are the fuel trim numbers before and after; As we can see, the long term trim has taken out the error from the wrong maf sensor and the short term trims are close enough to spot on. After a few cold starts to verify success, i'll do my happy dance.

1 pointOnly way to find out what it's truly worth on the market is to $1 reserve it. Otherwise put a price on it and see how much interest you get. If you're getting none then it's too expensive.

1 pointI haven't had a flat in some 15 years, I know Im lucky but now have an e90 which had the noisemakers disguised as tyres and have replaced them with real tyres, Toyo brand so not the cheapest but not the dearest and have decided that the round town is not a problem for me ( get the guy who sold me the tyres to come and fix a puncture which he's happy to do) but on the open road running I'm not stretching my luck. My son had a hole about the size of 50 cents punched in one of his tyres on of all the places the desert road at about 10 30 pm not too many people keen to help at that time and the ones that do come leave your wallet some $ 650 less taking after hours and trucking the vehicle back to a garage to get a new tyre put on so Im getting one of the E90 space saver tyres and kit with tools and cover from the dealer for $520 I figure it's a better option to sitting in your car waiting for someone to come and help and the tyre pando won't plug the hole. Dont think I would like to take the run flats too far in that condition either. So for me a better option.

1 pointTo push the new bushings in, I started by using a trolley jack while a block of wood was bracing the top of the subframe. I had another block of wood sitting the top of the trolley jack to brace against the bottom of the mount. A hole needed to be cut in this block to allow room for the bolt tube on the bushing as it sits lower than the bushings base. This got me to this stage (where the tube for the bolt in the bushing is level with the top of the subframe). From here you can use a gear puller, grabbing onto the top of the subframe to get it the rest of the way... A wheel from an old trolley jack was the perfect fit for pushing against the bottom of the bushing with the gear puller it was also recessed enough on one side to allow room for the center tube in the bushing. Success... Cleaned up support plate etc for reasembly..

1 pointCheck the parts catalog http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog some items are used through out the e46 entire range others are not. The front struts 316, 318, 320 use the same others are different the spring ratings would be different. King pins all the same up to the 330, rear trailing arms up to the 328, rear wish bones upper and lower on all.

1 point10 official imports 8 grey and 2 black ... majority were delimited and all had aircon, two without radio. One of those grey ones now live in Australia. One black one was completely written off and reshelled into a racecar. The only NZ new black one lives in Canterbury and have been for a while. The highest mileage one lives in Queenstown I believe. The driver training car that was written off was a pre-production car - and this is NOT one of the 10 official imports (by the way, if anyone knows where this DME is, I would like to grab the DME dump from it as it runs a pre production tune - the person that bought the wreck did contact me a couple of times and I believe the running gear now lives in a racecar) I stopped counting a while back, but I know of 3 grey imports (all in North Island when I asked last - many years ago) and 2 black (one in North Island and one in South) imports from the UK. So I guess unofficially there are only 8 NZ new cars around and 5 imports that I have seen in person. The one is Wellington is for sale after talking to the owner last month (the Turners Auction car / Drug kingpin Police impound car) - not sure if it has sold or not. When you buying yours Amber?

1 pointThey boost really hight.. then catch fire! haha Mk4 has got to be the lamest GTI of them all IMHO, could have been much better with some red stripes and a 2.0T. You can't say that. RWD is best. It has to be RWD, even an Automatic open diff luxo barge is better because its RWD. FWD's can not be fun because most people are drifters and prefer to initiate every corner... when I drive a RWD its sideways everywhere, even at traffic lights I just sit there and swig O's. Also. https://youtu.be/N2IWxqvsSY8

1 pointAgree with looking at our own backyard first. Easy to start making a difference. Buy all free range stuff. Will hurt your pocket but it is one less customer for the factory farmers. China is a waste of time. You would first have to find someone there who gives a sh*t more than putting money in their pocket.

1 pointI have no doubt that if the driver of that car had it switched off he would have crashed. Fair call on the limits thing, I am guilty of getting complacent at times. It saved me a few weeks back from a certain write off and possibly massive injury. It was 6.30am on my way to a rally and I was driving a bit to fast around a corner over a shaded brow that was very slippery, the car drifted wide off the road, miraculously the car reacted a lot faster than I could have braking individual wheels whilst I steered it back onto the road, narrowly avoiding a concrete power pole and a huge drop off. I like to think I am a reasonable driver, yet I was very thankful for the technology that morning, it is simply amazing how fast it can react, there is no way the car would have got back on the road without it. Another time my ex wife was driving us when an elderly couple pulled out rite in front of us in a 100 zone open road, very similar to the above video, she simply swerved out and went around them, no drama, the elderly couple probably shat themselves... I nearly did. No way we could have done that without stability control. Stability control is much like ABS brakes, there was time when people pooh poohed ABS too stating that its only there for people who can't drive... To me, any passive safety technology is massively worthwhile.

1 pointPetitioning the Chinese?? LOL Sorry dog lover here, but that's going to have zero effect whatsoever. The only way you'll stop Chinese from eating sh*t is if there's a disease that result from it and people start dying. But then again that'll only last as long as the next wave.

1 pointI prefer the E32, it's rawer in the flesh, but I admire the E38, but the E32 pulls more heart strings, in the same way I prefer the E34 to the look of any E39. The E39 may be better, could be a lot better even, but I am only talking about looks, and the twin headlights and raw appeal is greater, the E39 and E38 were better cars, but were softened I think in the looks dept relative to their forbearers. You could still get a manual E32 3.5 and that's awesome, E38, not so much.

1 pointBeen a while since updates ... Decided to do a bit of IAT testing with my spare airbox (and gives me a chance to clean the one in the car properly with it out of the car!!! - given the spare airbox came off a racecar, everything IAT related was already done (blocking of original placement and new pick up) all I had to do was make up a connector line so it'll be plug and play. I wanted to see if the IAT relocation actually made sense in this car so I ran some data logging on it. Also removed the intake flap motor at the same time of course from the DME so it is error code free. Given what I have seen with this modification it definitely makes sense to relocate the IAT!!! Next up, exposed ITBs ... just need to look into the vacuum side to make sure it'll run correctly.
